When you push things too far, it with throttle down. That is probably what you are seeing, unless you are 100% sure that is not the case...Quote:

And iirc the mem controller will keep resending bad data until its good, so to say. So obviously there would be slowdowns from that as well if you are on the edge of stability.Quote:

Okay just checked with AMD GPu tool also.. Up to the bios limit of 900mhz the performance increases. Ran 3dmark06 and hit 19505 with stock 850 and 1200mhz default memory. Then ran the AMD GPU tool to only change the core to 950mhz. Ran the 3dmark06 and got 18100. Did not change the memory.. Left at default. It is definitely not overheating. Core max temp is maybe 41c and my vrm's are in the 40's. Watercooled system. So what is causing the performance to drop after i go over what the CCC limit is?
Okay here is some screenshots so you can see what I mean.. Never seen anything like this happen before... All voltages are stock and definitely not enough to over heat anything...

Temps are a little higher since i have the fans down really low on the radiator.. but you can see the temps on the core and vrms are nothing to be worried about.. but the performance is not.. Is it a bios lock or something that doesnt let performance scale above the CCC limits?

I'm not sure about your card but both my cards run @ 1.25v and @ 1GHz with a Twin Turbo on both cards :)
I have 2x 5850 by the way, 1 Sapphire and 1 Asus :)
my asus eye6 needs 1.25v @1000/1300 & 1.299v @1025/1300 like gaul... so nothing abnormal...we do not have the best sample for sure but quite sufficient...

rev 1 Powercolor 5870 stock cooled at 100% fan, 1.299v. Not a great score by any means but great clocks from a virgin card with it's OOB bios.
