Good news. I put my Xeon 3060 back and started fiddling with memory timings. While flaky, PI times improve vastly. (Especially if you get 1T working) Once we get a mature BIOS, we'll see a true potential of this board. I think 680i (especially DFI variants) will eventually beat 975X in Super PI, too.

Just hope the DFI doesn't kill ram like the EVGA does.

You are the only one i know of who says EVGA killed ram. I've hit my ram with everything in the book with this EVGA and no issues at all. Don't be so quick to tag this buggy board with another issue. You probably just have bad ram.

there are other people just in this thread, And what is the odds that a bad stick from 2 different kits with the same person. I have had at least 20-50 kits of ram in the last 7 years and never 1 dead stick untill now..

Maybe you just got a bum board. Vast Majority haven't had any dead ram issues. :banana:

ok cool. I thought i might have a bad board. I just have to test the ram on another board before i take RMA into consideration. My Evga supplier said he is aware of the problems and offered a full refund.

As mentioned above, I'm now getting Pi times (at least for single instances) similar to those of 975X on this board now. I made a thread about my results in bandwidth forum.

I will run the exact same settings as that tonight and see what I get.

When I ran 450x8 4-4-4 2T for 32M I got over 17 minutes which is terribly slow.

Installed last night.

Have to remove power and use cmos jumper to boot EVERY SINGLE TIME. beta bios flashed. Too bad everysingle resistor on the board needed to be straightened. 2 were bent all the way to the ram slots. gfg.

cant boot cant maintain voltage. and this is one that they handpicked for an advanced rma.

later evga. 2 strikes ur out.

2 thousand dollars in ram. Thanks.

That Dayofpain dude is funny. 2 weeks play with this mobo and hundreds of bsod/hang and I never cleared cmos. Even when it beeping like crazy bcause memory stop functioning C1......Justwith simple insert key mobo will post.

Xtreme, trust me your mobo and ram are a ok.:toast: As long as PSU can supply enough juice.

Try it again put your rams (both) and hit insert key when you turn on power.

Dumo, I too had a 680i board that worked. The first one. (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=640644) I killed it by chipping a corner of the nb when putting on a water block. I did not return it, my fault. I have since had three more from Compusa and I can tell they were/are defective. Two in a row would not accept memory in the right side slots. I even bought new Muskin Redline thinking two in a row could not have the same problem. they did. The third, booted right up with memory in both blue slots. I thought I was home free. I adjusted the voltages and settings appropriate to my hardware,rebooted and I swear to Christ the thing died. The little yellow light above the blue light no longer comes on when you hit the power button. And yes Iv'e checked the power supply with a differtent mobo. Nothing will make this power up now. Hex code is "--". I tell this story to point out that, yes, your board works perfectly as the first one I had did. But do not take these stories of problems as "operator error". I can assure you I know what I'm doing. These boards have a variety of problems. P. S. Yes, I'm going to get a forth becuse I will never, ever give up. Bob

Report of my 2 bad sticks.
Stick-1 needs 2.2v to run at stock speed and timings
Stick-2 Tried 2.1v,2.2v,2.3v At stock speeds and stock timing and BSOD just before windows.

So i have a bad stick in each of my 2 kits tested.

It seems that the second blue slot is the 1 that damaged my rams.

I don't see any indication that the board actually damaged your memory.. only that it is incompatable. The eVGA rep did NOT say he was aware of any problems with it damaging memory, only that it had compatability problems.

Have you tested the memory in another mobo before and afterward?

I'd have to agree. Counting Xtreme Ice here, and all the reports on evga forums, you are looking a a grand total of 3 reports.

We have one report from a guy who has had trouble with every peice of hardware he has touched in the last 6 months (hmmmm...makes you wonder), and another report with someone saying their ram ran fine pounding 2.5v through it for months (which then sounds more like degraded ram showing problems on a memory picky board).

I dunno about this one guys. Sound problems...yep. Sata issues...yep. But killing ram....I just don't see it.

reminds me of poststhat started appearing on dfi-street about the eXpert mobo killing cpu's...
any given company can produce parts that are defective...doesnt mean "evga 680i is killing ram"

What would you expect him to say? And for everyone saying incompatible ram then I guess any corsair ram that requires volts over 1.9 is incompatible then.

Set one- Corsair 8500C5D will boot but if set @ default 1066@2.2V= BSOD's, bios hanging:fact:

Set two- Corsair 6400C3DF one stick dead on first boot:fact: What troubles me with this set is there is not a boat load of them out there and the corsair rep stands behind its quality control on it:fact:

Yes I was able to RMA both and I will loose 65.00 dollars from newegg for the restocking fee on the 8500C5D:clap: But what the hell its only 1000.00 dollars in ram.

I can tell you this my ram will not see another 680i chip set:fact: At least not the current ones:fact:

The current reference 680i boards were rushed to market for the release of the 8800GTX and GS and for no other reason, come on people it was shipped with a beta bios:nono:

Oh yes the sound problem is real and evga has another beta bios to fix it but at a cost of performance:fact:

I can not afford to keep replacing:fact: expensive ram for the sake of being a beta tester for nvidia

I turned on my rig for the first time today and it would not boot into windows, everything stock and no OC, I had to reset the ram again this time EPP to get it to boot.

Would I be right in assuming the new E6850 E6750 E6650 chips will all have much lower multipliers because of the new 1333 FSB than their current counterparts and therefore not be as useful for overclocking?
For example the E6600 has a multiplier of 9 (9 x 266 = 2.4GHz) but the E6650 will only have a multiplier of 7 (333 x 7 = 2.33GHz)... wouldn't that make it far less attractive for overclockers?
