new BIOS for DFI infinity 975X

So now the 320x9 won't boot cold. I turn my machine off when I go to work and when I came home last night it wasn't booting again. I quick hit of the reset button fixed that immediately though. I was straight into windows and I did work and surfed the net and ran benches for like 6-7 hours last night without a single problem.

I just don't understand what the major difference between cold booting and warm booting this system is. I thought that the whole point of the post delay was to make sure everything gets power before it starts checking :banana::banana::banana::banana:. I hope to hell I don't have a bad board.

You don't have a bad board is seems that the rest of us are having the same cold boot problem. Only difference for me is that my board is running at 415 fsb and about 50% of the time cold boots to a lower value. It never crashes,BSDs or screws up in any way while in windows(X64).
I have never seen a board do this and hopefully DFI will correct it soon. I'm running the 7-31 bios and Patriot memory (2 gigs) 3-4-3 with a 533 divider.

Well that makes me feel *pessimistically* better lol, I thought I was the only one with the cold boot specific problem. Hopefully they do fix the issue then. I can't quite remember, but you have an allendale right? That and you having a better memory (in terms of this board) could be why you are getting a better FSB, although to tell you the truth I haven't tried pushing mine much past 365 cause I don't want to up my vcore higher than +100mV yet or up my Vnb at all since I knew this BIOS was iffy above that. I guess it is just a waiting game for now.

Well useing this bios and setup i was unable to gain a fsb increase im still at 370fsb for now
But it did let me increase the mem speed a bit as 533 and 400 made no difference but at 667 it wouldnt post over 320fsb
so it went from 370fsb 533 3-3-3-8 official bios to 370fsb 667 4-4-4-10 with 823 beta (superpi 1m time seems to be much the same)
2.2vdim seems to be all that is needed changeing any of the other v settings seems to make no difference

the issue is with drive strength, my guess is you're leaving it on Auto, this will not work with some ram, you need to set it to 3x all the way down that list (just to make sure). Follow that guide to the letter and you should be able to boot up after making changes.

Decided to put the DS3 asside and tinker with the Infinity again, flashed to the 8/23 bios, had a similar situation as 8/16 right off the bat with the constant rebooting with any changes and saves to the bios. Decided to clear the cmos and start from scratch, entered bios and loaded optimized defaults and she fires right up every time.

To make a long story short, the 8/23 bios fixed something as I can now run up to 370fsb 1:1 no sweat then its like hitting a wall to pass.

I've also got a 6600 installed instead of the 6400 I used before along with changing out the NB hs for a nice unit.

Anyways for anyone trying to use the 8/23 bios and are having issues getting it to boot after saving changes try loading optimized defaults, save & exit, then make whatever changes you want to try.

I heard a rumour on a grapvine that DFI have a Lanparty 975x planned. I really dont know how true it is but if its the case they might not want to make the infinity bios any better.

We're in a frustrating situation, I'm contemplating sending my board back and probably getting a P5W if DFI doesn't do anything about this.

Grapevine 975X LanParty board is false. Way more likely a 965 LanParty board. 965 is newer Intel set and until Intel releases the better 975XE chipset there is no need to spend a ton on R&D for an already dated chipset. Not really anyway.

Damn im pissed.

I got my new E6400+ DFI Infinity up and running. The board came with 7/31 bios and the max fsb i could get was 375.

Now running 8/23 and no change.. 380fsb is no go.. 375 i can run with 533 or 667 divider without any issues on 3-3-3-8 or 4-4-3-8 latencies.

Max FSB I get is 358, with 731. Just about to flash on the 823.

So where do we get this 823?

Id quess there is some issues in the 823 bios because i downloaded it from the official DFI site and now its not there anymore.

Hopefully they make some nice corrections to it so i could pass 400fsb and over 1000mhz mem.

Hmm....with 816 bios I can only post right after cmos clear. Otherwise no post.

Back to 731, still can't get it stable with 4GB in @ stock. :(

The 8/23 has given me the best OC so far, the absolute max at 1:1 is 380 on my board and it takes some playing with the reset button to get it to boot at 380, stable as a rock once it posts.

Compared to the DS3 board I also have this board is just way too finiky, I really hope they get get the issues resolved with future bios releases. They're definitely making a little progress with the beta bios's but it would be nice to have the cold boot issues resolved and at least tweak the settings enough to help the board achieve 400fsb at 1:1.

Highoctane, you and me both are on 380 1:1, try setting read delay to 7 manually in bios. I have only cold booted once since I set this so I don't know if it'll work all the time.

For what it's worth there is definatley a bigger 'down time' period on a cold boot when you are at 370-380 fsb. It's like the board struggles to reach it's stable point before post. Let me know if read delay at 7 helps.

I heard you need the 4:3 to get past 350FSB. Trying 4GB atm, 4:5 @ 4-3-2-1 takes me to 337MHz. Trying 1:1 now.
