Truthfully, I haven't seen BH-5/6 do nearly as well in 2x512MB as this VX seems to be doing.
talk to me when ur 24 hour prime stable, no offense :p:Quote:

I suppose for now I will hold on to both pairs until I get a new board and booster and will then test each set again to see which is dominant. I am really wanting 260. If that is possible I wouldn't expect anymore and would be quite happy with that. So far my BH is doing better but I hope the tables turn.
If anyone has any other comments feel free to share.
Has anyone actually gotten BH based memory to 260 with 3.5/6 volts?
LastViking did 280 2-2-2 2x512 on nF2 DFI with BH5Quote:

Thanks a lot for the compliment Trans Am :)
DevilsRejection,
I wont be doing another Prime run at those settings... I know it is stable, and if by chance it fails before 24hrs I know more VCore will get it there... this memory is solid at 256 2-2-2 3.2v so its simply a matter of how far my CPU will go.
I'm not comfortable with 1.75vcore 24/7 either... so I'll be running 10x256 3.2vdimm 1.65vcore for daily use.
damn 280? Insane... puts all other BH and VX chips to shame.
Was that stable or just enough to take a quick snapshot?

holy geez, 260 at 3.3v. A whole 17mhz over mine at same volts and stable too. I hope you never sell those sticks.
Hello Cantakerous. i have just put my VX in my DFI Infinity and like you seem to be having lots of probs with it. To start I put it in straight in at 240@3.3V last night in great hope that everything would work straight off. However, I found that this was not going to work.
I put it in at 240 but before I had a chance to test I buggered up windows. So I had to install etc last night. However while doing this my comp kept on getting the BSOD at many occasions, the one about hardware faliure etc. I thought at first this was to do with my windows probs, but then i thought about the RAM, put it back down to 200 and it never did it again. So got windows installed and carried on again.
So memtest, 240 produced lots of errors to start with, so I left it to burn in while I went to work (looping test 5). I came back from work just and found we had a power cut so restarted my comp, restarted memtest and found that it was having less errrors per loop than before. So I think that it is a case of burning in needed. But then I remembered what you had said about having probs in windows with 240 so I restarted and altered the bios to 220 and came in to windows to write this, but then my comp crashed.
So TBH I don't think this RAM likes NF2 at all, and running such high FSB's on the board. I am however going to keep hold of them, burn them in in metest till I get an A64 board in Jan, and by then hopefully they will do very nicely.
Let me know your thoughts.
PS. I don't think this board will owrk very well with these sticks at any voltage (just my opinion of course), so don't worry about people getting a lot higher on the same voltage on diff boards, doesn't mean your sticks are rubbish.
PPS. And just as I was browsing the net about, a few mins after writing this I got a BSOD telling me that windows had shut down for hardware reasons even at 220 FSB. The only time I don;t seem to get this is at 200 FSB. Think I'll stick to my generic ram for general comp usage until Jan, and then anytime I'm not using my comp I'll whack the VX in and burn it in.
Interesting results RabbiNZ
Im going to format now.. See if that helps
finally!! LMK if it works :banana:Quote:

A64 has similar issues with the 754 again not supporting 512 DS dimms at PC3200 speed, but things do seem to be better with the A64 and new revisions of CPU's are adressing the drive strength problems.
The ONLY way you are going to get any speed from NF2 is with CPC disabled..im sorry but this is the best i can do for you guys.
The ram will be ok...the chipset is the problem.
http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/sho...04&postcount=7 is an explanation to the issue with NF2
A little bird said very soon on the DFI. :)Quote:

Obvioulsy it won't work in windows or anything (shove the generic stuff back in for that), but just use it in Memtest.
Will the new DFI be Nforce4, and socket 939? No doubt we'll have to wait unti about June to get it here in England. I like the DFI version too.

Yeh I will upgrade but I'm waiting for Nforce4, and also waiting to be paid (last day in Dec), so will upgrade then. I take it the DFI offering won't be around that eary tho? Just need to decide on the best option (prob ASUS or Gigabyte). And I WON'T be getting a Winnie yet, i'll get a NC core and wait for the new revision cores before I get a Winnie!
Any thoughts about me using this board to burn the RAM in? I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't be ok?
You should be fine running that memory in your NF2. Burning it in is the same on all platforms.Quote:

Thank you Tony and Andy for your input. I understand quite fully about the chipset issues. I had to RMA a brand new pair of 3500 plat. ltd. ed. BH-5 because of this issue about a year ago. In return I recieved 3200 plat. ltd. ed. BH-6. With cpc on, 2 x 512mb I can do 222 on the fsb but nothing more. If I try that with the VX I get as Brum Man said blue screens, reboots, apps crashing to desktop etc.
Brum Man, I am glad I am not the only one but feel bad that you too are going througoh what I went through. I don't get errors at at at 240 in fact no errors up to 243 however even 1mhz more and all hell breaks loose. I know NF2 is growing grey but I don't like to buy twice so figure I will wait till exactly what I want comes out before I buy. Thanks to the 'little bird' I have something it seems soon to look forward to. In the meantime I will continue to burn in this ram all I can on this board at 3.3v.
Keep burning Brum Man... I had errors at 240 now 3 days later 243. Not a huge increase but it still helps.
I too hope an A64 setup brings me better luck. In the meantime keep me informed of any updates and I'll do the same. Good luck!
Yeh I have noticed a similar thing about the errors in memtest, I am still getting errors but there seems to be less errors with each loop of memtest #5.
So I shall keep it going!
K some really good news
The format has helped dramatically
4x 10x250=2500mhz 250mhz 2-2-2-10 1T 3.4v
Prime Stable, Memtest86 No errors Test #5
3x 10x255=2550mhz 255mhz 2-2-2-10 1T 3.4v
Prime Stable, Memtest86 No errors Test #5
However, when installing SP2, compy just froze
So after reinstalling again, im sitting on
4x 10x250=2500mhz 250mhz 2-2-2-10 1T 3.4v
Prime Stable, Memtest86 No errors Test #5
Going to prime is all tonight... Then memtest is all tomorrow day when im at work
:D
EDIT: @ 250 i was just installing SP2 for the second time my compy froze..Not in the same place of installation.. I think(hope) that the file is corrupted and im good for 255
Going to mate place now and getting another copy of SP2
Best of luck! As well you are not alone on Windows stability. I get my firefox forever closing itself out on its own as well as other weird anomolies. Man I can't wait for a new board.
Thanks dude... btw i edited previous post.. my windows sp2 is very unstable/corruptedQuote:

Upon peering into the blow hole I noticed my dimm slots are square in centre of the fan. I thought to myself... what if I reversed the fan and instead of having it act as a blow hole have it take air into the top of the case to act as a cooling fan for my sticks. The fan has plenty of CFM and being 120mm it surely covers all the slots. This is the only way I can think of cooling my dimms without cutting yet another hole into my side panel or buying a zalman FB123 bracket which will do nothing more than circulate the hot air from within the case anyhow.
Good idea or bad? I would like to use this same case with a booster and 3.6v on the ram.
Let me know if this is adequate or not. Either way im curious to see if you are thinking on the same lines as myself.
good idea, just try it dude
ok the format has done little to nothing
For some bizarre reason prime was passing a few tests at the start @ 245, 250, 255 but that was only the first or second tests... After leaving it on longer they fail
Even with max vcore and 3.5v for ram it wont pass
Im about to prime at 240
The memory controllers on these amds suck.. Is it just 90nm ones or 130mm 939 aswell? I cant believe how unstable this cpu is at high mhz for the ram :(
Did i get a bad chip? I dont think so coz it can do 2600mhz prime but not in sync with ram
Just came back during lunch hour and there it was, a FedEx package waiting for me
Unfortunately, I burned my NEO2 a few days ago. My setup was at 2.8Ghz 1.8vcore and I know it was stable because I played games with it for a few hours the previous night. The next morning when I switch in on, flames shot up from one of the MOSFET between the cpu socket and the USB port! Luckily nothing else burnt. I'm now stuck with my spare board which is an Asus A8V which is not compatible with the DDR Booster
You forgot to say 17mhz more than you get on your NF2 board. :) That DFI NF3-250gb is a bad mutha.Quote:

Can somebody from OCZ take a look overhere ,i thought that it was for support on OCZ products, but nobody looks overthere, its a problem with psu 520w powerstream, thank you:).
damn fridays, so i get my ddr booster today, all excited to add some volts to these vx sticks, install the booster, look at the led readout and wait and wait, nothing, so i come online antec neopower has no -5v rail.
BAH
so i ordered up a powerstream 520, hopefully this will fix my drooping +12v also.
now its back to waiting again.
edit: i swapped out my neopower for my old trusty enermax 365p-ve which has the -5v rail, and its working, currently burning in the ram at 3.2v @ 220mhz 2-2-2-10, looping test 5 on memtest 20 times, then booting into windows like mentioned before and running superpi 2M. all is well so far
well i know for sure that the ocz powerstream is the big daddy of psu's

computerpro3,
that is jus a screeny buddy... I have a 1x512 screeny of my OCZ VX at a VERY UNSTABLE 3.4v line... eg, under load it jumps between 3.31v-3.35v due to "low" 3.3v line sitting at 3.47v.
Even with that dubious voltage I got a higher screeny than that... I will post it in the nex day or two ;)
I just got some VX in today from the good ol' fed ex man. Popped em in at 245 2-2-2-10-1t 3.2v which is what I was running before and they are lookin good so far. Hopin I'll have some top end results either tonight or tommorow night. It sucks being a retail manager during Christmas. Not much time to play with my toy's since I am at work most of the time!;)
Alright, at 3.4v I can get 260x10 2-2-2-10-1t Not to shabby. Heard this stuff get's better as it burns in. Will see. 270+ would be ideal.
So this VX is some real good ram, hugh guy's! :toast: :banana4:
Very nice. 260 with only 3.4. That is incredible. Nice latency too. Man I can't wait to see what my sticks do when I go A64.

That and VX can be done in 2x512mb at those speeds where you have to run BH-5 at 2x256mb. VX is like the gamer's version of BH-5, for those that can't run as little as 512mb.

That's not completely correct. I had some CH-6 RAM here some month ago and that stick did CL3 without problems. And lots of rebaged Winbond Chips do CL3. IMHO, that's just a matter of SPD programming.Quote:

i'll probably be buying the DFI sli board when it comes out. so i do hope it will work, or maybe they will have a bios that has those high voltages and then you can just overvolt the 3.3line. can't wait to buy this stuff :)Quote:

I won't go into details here, but please if you are using Prime95 to test while running an A64 Winchester 90nm take a minute to read this. Many CPU's fail at stock settings. Always test at BIOS defaults for 7+ hours before using Prime95.

Yeah I don't even bother with prime anymore. It has too many problems. Anyway I have a week 37 cpu. I did attach though a prime screenie I ran for a 1/2 hour.Quote:

Type M
Welcome to XS. Used BH-5 costs that much man.. and it will NOT DO what this RAM will do in 2x512MB stick configuration.
Thanks for the warm welcome. I have been surfing the site for months and have not joined until recently. I agree that the VX is a very good product for the money, however, the M.S.R.P. is $249.99 if I am correct. I would hate to see Fry's selling the product at a premium because they bought all of the remaining inventory from OCZ. ExcaliberPC is selling it $20 cheaper and I would ASSUME that they pay more for the RAM than Fry's pays. Fry's is "the largest purchasing company of OCZ ram" if I read things correctly a few pages back.
