yea that one looks better. i think it looks better with all motion stopped.
i usually try to not go about 800 ISO but i start to see uncorrectable noise around 1250 ISO (depending on conditions)

thanks! yea she's a cute dog. i think she's not even 3 yet but she is very mixed, about 12 breeds but i forget where she gets all the white from. she had a white chest, feet and some of her mouth.

no actually, with stock photography generally a photographer will have their own stock site or contribute to a stock site and you will get paid each time someone buys the photo but the customer would only pay for the photo once, as in they wouldn't have to pay every time they use it. the photos generally have to be perfectly composed and exposed as well as flawless post processing. a user or business will often use stock photography on their website or something along those lines. just google stock photography and you'll find a bunch of sites that sell stock photos.

Thanks a lot guys :), I took it from a running train, the train was at 140kmpl I think, I just took it as the Train left the Mumbai city border. I wanted to get the sun in between the two poles but due to the speed of the train, it was quite hard, I got like 15 pictures before the bridge ended, but I like this alot, will post more pictures soon.

Aivc 18: The shot is nice and clear but I find that the picture lacks a specific subject. I like the fact that the background is blurred but I'd practice on getting some meaning behind your subjects. I just looked up your camera and it seems like you should be able to get some great shots with it!

Tin EOF: Well captured, it doesn't matter how many times I will see lightning, I'll always find it just as amazing.

Thanks for the thoughts :) I've been trying to highlight the puppy a bit more, not sure the best way to do it is though, so far playing around with smart sharpen seems to work.

Hehe cats are really the best pet :). Hate dogs even though i got one that is a really nice one :O flatcoated retriever .... my dog thinks he weight 2kg like when hes jumping up on my in the chair. Cats you just buy them and play with them when you wants to the dog allways want attention and you really have to work with the dog ^^

well all zoom is, is the ratio of the largest focal length/smallest focal length.

If you want ability to see further than you want Larger Focal length. And technically larger focal length ratio lens' tend to have worse IQ.

ex: the Canon 1200mm F4 L is technically a 0x Zoom

The exposure of the image has been corrected downwards quite heavily in post processing, it was about as bright as the sun when it came from the camera, otherwise it's untouched.

When canon talk about a 1200mm focal length, what do they compare it to? Because there's no smaller focal length, do they just say something like our 1200mm lense will take pictures comparible to a standard 35mm in 35X Optical Zoom?

Or do people not need to know, is there some way of working out what the 1200mm equals out into the real world? Because me as a noob has no idea how far in distance that lense can focus, and also, what's that lense actually used for? Taking shots of what? Planes the Moon etc?

I don't have a DSLR, (Couldn't afford one, I have a Superzoom instead, was the best I could afford :) thats the lense it's been designed for and works ok (yeah its quite slow at extreme focal lengths :p:)

Would it not be inefficient for somebody to bring out such a lense, seing as its basically what a cheaper camera is based around :shrug:

I thought that was the whole reason photographers carried around many different lenses for different scenes, so that the lense that they use would be designed and work much better in a certain situation and therefore produce a better image instead of using a lense that is probably not as good all over the field?

I quite like that picture, the greens contrast nicely with the trees.

I took the liberty of doing a quick edit with the colors of your image, I hope you don't mind. I'll of course remove it if you request. :) The colors have been changed a little and the branches are now highlighted a little more, makes it seems a little more natural to me.

From what I've understood, 200mm is equivalent to around 11.1x zoom and more than that with a 35mm sensor, such as on the Nikon D300 etc. There isn't a conversion between the two standards, as one focuses simply on the size of the picture in the end compared to what you had when you didn't "zoom" in at all and the other is based on mathematics.

Lenses like that are obviously a bit more limited than portable lenses. Taking pictures of the moon would be one possibility, other general uses include photos for National Geographic and the like.

Whilst I don't know much about the insides of a camera, I've always reckoned that a superzoom and an SLR are work in different ways. When I manually focus with my Fujifilm s6500fd I hear an electronic motor doing something, when I manually focus with my Nikon D60 + lense I hear nothing except mechanical noise.

There are lenses with quite high focal length spectra, the image quality just goes down, especially if you're not prepared to pay a very large premium.

For example, in terms of image quality, the Nikkor 55-200VR is said to be superior over the 18-200VR. Like you said, one is usually better off getting a lense for the particular situation.

zoom lenses for dslr's and point and shoots work the same way in terms of their multiplier. any zoom lens whether dslr or p&s has a short end and a long end. take a 18-55mm dslr lens for example. short end = 18mm, long end = 55mm. 55/18 = 3.05555. so the 18-55mm slr lens has a 3x zoom range.

p&s cameras are described a little differently, but also incorrectly. p&s cameras such as the Canon SD880 are marketed as a 4x optical zoom. well... that 4x zoom really doesn't mean anything unless you know the focal length on the short end. 4x what? who knows? on the SD880 the short end is 28mm so 28x4 = 112. so the SD880 has a 28-112mm lens built in.
