I am using the same Ram. I am at 2.2 V in the Bios. Should I drop it some?

but when I tried to start up from a cold boot .. no go, I had to remove 1 module to get the computer to boot I am now running 2.1v which seems to be fine, it was stable with the lower V but no cold boot up  why is this
happy to say I am now running 2 80mm fans over my ram sticks :D :D
hmm lifetime warranty mems seems to be a must on this mainboard lol.
anyway is there a fix for the "no cpu fan installed bug". A better fix then installing a dummy fan?

Sorry for the noob question, but would I be correct in choosing the Commando instead of the P5W-DH Deluxe? They're the exact same price here (209 Euros)
will probably purchase 2GB of Corsair XMS6400 and then pick a processor
I only run a single graphics card
depends.. If you get a proc with a multi lower then 10 id get the commando because youll probably need the FSB. With 10 multi proc or unlocked the P5W should do. For mem oc id get commando because of 965 chipset and vdimm options. You might wanna wait for DFI 965 though, should be out soon for less then commando and performance comparable to P5W..
hmm damn. I am still running stock with my CPU at 1.2 volts. or 1.14 as heavilly as these mainboard seem to undervolt... anyway I run orthos for 30 minutes without error. max load temp 45. quite high for only 2,4 but my AS is still burning in and I had my fans on low speed.
Anyway everything looking good after 30 minutes I finish the test.
THen after that while right clicking a RAR file it locks????
Then on reboot it doesnīt detect my Raptors. Not running raid...
Had to clear the CMOS to get them to find them again. Had issues with my previous mainboard as well but how can two raptors fail at the exact same time? Must be something else.
Installed the 0803 bios now but I canīt overclock ANYTHING or I donīt get any video at all!.
Nothing matters I can run 1,55 vcore on 350x9 no boot. 1,35 on nb and 1,25 on HTT. Doesnīt really matter. Tried removing one ram module nothing...
The computer behaves very weird too. After changing settings it donīt reboot my computer it shut it down. And then on two tries it stops and goes. But to get it to boot I need to remove the power cable. Then the settings in bios is left like I am overclocking but still running stock speed.
Any settings that you have to disable, enable to have any luck overclocking this miffo?
DFI Expert you could always get some overclocking out of even if you didnīt know every single setting...
Aah this was a better day :).
I am such a newbie I am shooting blind but I am up and running at 3,6 gig at 1,35 vcore... Real vcore is probably way lower...
No idea if itīs stable yet will try it over the night but I feel if I can boot windows with air at 1,35 I should be able to get 3,6 out of it for sure. If not before but by then I get my watercooling :).
If I get 3,6 stable I will be happy I donīt have to run for that extra 200 mhz but I will take it if I get it :).
One thing it seems my Team Xtream RAM like the white slots better then the blue? Is there different timings on each channel? I got no post with memory in blue slots but it booted with them in the white slots.
Trouble with 9x350 on blue but now 9x400 instantly on white with no changes. DDR RAM is set to 800 mhz. I have no idea what settings to opt for lol for. Higher FSB or tighter timings? Currently running 4-4-4-4-10 stock timings on the RAM.
Also another thing. What is this terminating voltage? I get a warning about DDR II termination voltage being 1.07??? I know I set the termination voltages in bios but I have no clue what itīs good for.
Also wondering my SATA harddrives should I run them as AHCI or IDE? I have a pair of harddrives I will run as raid does that mean I need to run all drives as "raid"? Does that have any impact on performance on the drives that are not in raid configuration?
Also while booting. Is it normal with the Commando doing a couple of false starts before it really goes?
I also read somewhere itīs actually recommended to overclock the pci e bus for increased stability. I am running 115 now...
Quite a new world this for an AMD guy ;)
hmm orthos is weird... Running 3dmark06 no problems. 12100 points.
Running orthos failing after 2 seconds. Honestly it was rather 1/10th of a second ;) Running the standard blend test is that the best?
I think prime is quite useless often. prime95 on my opty could fail after 4 minutes it being totally stable anyway...
Well I think orthos ( small fft's )stress's the cpu a lot more than 3dmark06, I would stick with orthos for the fact you can run it for hours to test if you sytem is stable and 3dmark does not run very long
booting and be stable is totally different I can easily boot when OCing but my cpu will not be stable
Try running your termination voltage all at there lowest settings -30
Yes you will have to choose raid in the bios and then set up the raid after you save and reboot and press ctrl+I
Yes sometimes when OCing can't say when it exactly happends but the computer will start up, shut down right away and start up.
yeah but from my experience prime95 have a tendency to fail while your computer is stable for everything else but prime... Not much to trust. Is there a better programme then prime95?
I tried some Lavasoft Everest stresstest. And man it made the CPU go up to 90 degrees? I don´t know if it was a bug because the temp stayed at 90 degrees even after I was quick to close it. The test programme ran for 2 hours before I stopped it lol. But I guess 90 degrees wouldn´t damage the CPU but it´s really to close to be acceptable so I am lowering my overclock until I get my watercooling setup.
the CPU temp was 50 in the bios after the reboot so...
What would be a safe temp with core 2 duos?
btw kasperskys antivirus where is the serial code for that?

I downloaded an update on the asus homepage but they didn´t have english only german, japanese, chinese, french... Opted for the German but my grasp on that language is not the best lol.
I've been experiencing a lot of BSD lately with the new bios. Anyone else experience the same? I'm back to 803 atm, it seems to solve the problem so far.
@ZilverPhish.. dude that is a little insane
@syne_24.. I have experienced some as well, switching back for now
@oqvist.. well what else stress's the cpu as hard or as long as orthos or prime ?
well the temps go up way higher with the everest benchmark for example. So if temps is an indication how hard they work :). It just feels like prime is so picky on what revision of the cpu you got. I have had cpus that don´t do prime at stock even though I am kind of sceptic about use as a stability check...
I'm not sure this is the appropriate thread to post this, but I haven't found the info so far and I don't want to start a different thread...
The slot where the sound card plugs is a regular PCI-e x1 slot or just something specifically designed for it and not suitable for anything else?
I ask because my wifi card just died, and I have a PCI-e one lying around which I could use rather than buying a new one.
The commando will give you lots more FSB..the 975 chipset on that board does tend to fail after 430 fsb on lots of cases....
i still think its a personal preferance but as the 975 chipset you can get away with sum cheap mem and have ur cpu at hi clocks...
i have had 6 965 chipset boards and i love them...But $$ for good memory to get you to 4.2Ghz with E6600..wich is my only experiance as it Hasn't died yet :-P
Nor has my sons and his is on 965 chipset Mboard...
look into your memory purchase a bit better has you could buy better memory than corrsair for the same $ spent.
there is a database of 4ghz club it will give you the correct choice of motherboard and memory to buy..the proof is in this database..//But take into account that the Striker is a verry expensive motherboard so not many people use it..dosnt mean its not going to go as good as the others if not Better ;-)
Good Luck Hori
is it normal for temps dropping 20 degrees just by lowering vcore 0.1 V? How trustworthy is Asus Probe?
That does not sound right, try using core temp, tat, speedfan and everest
probe should be pretty accurate though
This is my experience so far
I have been running Vista since I first got my C2D and Commando, speedfan,cpu-z and etc did not read two cores but when I open up device manager I see two cores. I noticed this right away but did not think anything of it until I found a thread on OCN about it but this guy was using windows xp at that point I searched and searched until I finally found something on an amd forum which happened in RC 1 which involved changing some files halmacpi.dll to be exact. NOW :woot: I have speedfan, task manager, cpu-z and etc all showing 2 cores, it got me wondering device manager showed two so the whole time was I just stressing one core , when orthos opens up it would just run one thread.
I was playing with some OC settings and decided to run some orthos blend, nope fail instantly so hmm went back to the bios changed some settings .. nope fail again but I knew when I ran small fft's she was stable before showing 2 cores, so tried that and no go failed instantly.
I just tried to bump the OC down a little but still having no luck so finally I have have her stable at 360x9 3.2ghz my team group running at 4-4-4-4 2.1v
orthos fft's and blend stable, one thing I noticed now when I am close to and above 1.5 my core temps skyrocket using orthos... before around 48C max now would jump up to 53C right away
Started playing some half life last night and it was lagging so bad .. what the heck is going on, so I upped the pci freq from 100 to 105 I noticed some people say lock some boards to 105 but before the changes were made I was running 100 fine ?
AFTER ALL BEING SAID I would have to say I am pretty sure before I changed the files it was just stressing one core :nono:
Calling all Commando and C2D owners or anyone this applies to
If you have not already read my post read it and respond back if programs like speefan, task manager, cpu-z, etc only show one core ????
here are two different examples of the problem :fact:
It's not a regular pci-e x1 it's specific to sound card only.
Thats an honest question to ask where the registration code is for his own software that came with the ASUS Commando. I was wondering the same thing because it didn't come with the CD package oddly enough, and neither did the 3DMARK 06 has its registration that also came with the commando.
So did asus just give us trial software just to make it look like they care? This isn't "heart touching" :fact: ... what a lame slogan. :stick:
What I am experiencing is the error message that will show when I tried to update to V110. It indicates that a previous edition of 3dmark06 is not detected... :slapass:
I am also using the advanced edition v1.02 given by asus..
Anyone met with the same problem??
That's really      I can't even post my results and I am also getting problems with the free Kapersky software. I am gonna call up the distro here in Singapore.
Btw, would like to check with all commando users if I have only one pcie vga card and would like to slot in on the 4x(which is the secondary pcie lane), would it automatically run it 16x or do I have to change any thing in the bios?
Thanks.
yes you have to download the full 3dmark06. you cant update the commando version . heres the link:
http://service.futuremark.com/suppor...id=14&fid=1309
dumbest thing ive ever heard ;)
I have one question...
Suppose that I have a pcie sound card...
Can I use the second pcie (for vga) for it???
The Commando has the following:
1 - x1 pcie
2 - x16 pcie
4 - pci slots
unless your soundcard is x1 pcie or pci i don't think you can use your soundcard on the commando. the x1 pcie is supposed to be for the bundled supreme fx sound card but can accomodate any x1 pcie device. as usual the pci slot can accomodate legacy pci-e device.
4 the 2nd time the commando doesn't have an f@**ing a x1 pcie
Asus Commando
Please note:-
The socket looks like it's a x1 pci-e but it ain'tQuote:
Expansion Slots 2 x PCI-E x16 (@ x16 and x4 mode)
4 x PCI 2.2
no, it'll run x4 but a PCI-E x1 card should run in it fine
i have a problem with my commando..
today i update my bios 0803 to 0902. And before the update i test my system with 3dmark06. score is 6,8k. after the update i test my system again and score is 4,8k
i understand why my results are bad. pcie@1x How can i change this ?

Thank you for the answer ^^
And for the record, yes, you're right... The slot that looks like a PCI-e 1x is actually... the other way round :P:
If you try to plug a pci-e card on it, it will look inwards. I take that as a "stop being dumb" message from the MB.
Well, first impression with this motherboard is...
What A Bliss!
My previous MB (which I accidentally killed) was the Abit IN9 32X-MAX. It took me nearly two weeks to make it work @ stock settings, and I never managed to stabilize it completely. It was aggro after aggro.
This one booted straight out of the box into XP, and on a "contaminated" (haven't reinstalled yet) installation, with the memory undervolted (should be 2.2v and is running @1.96v) and underclocked (5-5-5-18 800 instead of 5-5-5-15 1066) is yielding the same 3D Mark and Sandra results as the Abit.
That motherboard must have been faulty. Too bad that with 3 VRegs out of 5 crushed I can't RMA it. I should have followed my instinct and RMA-it straight away after the first week of aggro.
Glad your happy, i think it's a good board, but have seen enough issues to know that generally Asus Quality control isn't good & their support even worse. So we're the lucky guys.:toast:Quote:
MrToad
What A Bliss!
I did a RMA on my commando since I grew tired of the whistling sound it made @ reboot I could hit 415 fsb on the qx6700. Lets hope the new one is a gem and not a dud.
this is my second commando install, first install that i recomended and helped to set up on friends system where the mobo was quit and could reach 470 fsb on 6600. Both had !"doubletake" reboot issues though
So I just got this badboy up and running and was wondering if the the Command rate (1T/2T) can be adjusted.
Yeah le doublé bootage IS a problem.
No 1 T command rate on commando. Better check in with Striker if ur looking for memory options beyond "standard" great voltage on commado Vdimm though as long as you donīt kill your ram like i did. Kill as in burn.
Thanks, is 2T command rate just a "feature" of the 965 chipset? Is it adjustable on 975X?
It's not a deal killer for me other than providing insight. Thanks for tolerating my noob questions.
My rig does the doubletake reboot issue when I start up from a cold boot... when the computer is fully off
I wonder if this will be fixed in newer bios's to come
What bios are you using?
I am using 060x that comes along with the board.
Weird thing is the constant reboot now comes along with a short beep. It even does that when windows is shutting down.
Anyone had the same issue?
Just want to check with everyone, if everything is stable, should the board sound off any beep?
Hmmm... are you using a fan controller with built-in alarm?
I ask because my rig shows the same behaviour, but is not the MB that beeps, is the fan controller's "swan song" so to speak.
When the power cuts off the last thing the fan controller does is try to "raise the alarm".
And for the record I agree with uOpt, the "doubletake" glitch is not healthy. I'm using an external 12v PSU to run my pump atm, because she doesn't particularly like this cut-off and restart business. And if I'd make her unhappy enough to cease operation the consequences would be too ghastly to discuss.
Usually OC-ing involves a countless number of changes in BIOS settings, and changing many parameters in one go to avoid it never yielded me good results, so I hope it's somethig that can be fixed in future revisions on the BIOS, and not part of the MB's design.
hmm.. I am not using any fan controller but this scenario occurs the moment I switched over to watercooling and during post, it will indicate cpu fan not detected. So I just simply plug in one of the fan to the cpu fan pin. After that, I keep hearing the 'beep' after the reboot whenever I changed settings in the bios. Now it even extends to shutting down of windows.
Like you, I have to power up my pump and fans with a second psu.:(
No need for a fan to be on cpu pin. In bios set cpu fan to ignored in hardware monitor.
Yeah I do not get the beep... it probably is a warning of some type
I am running 0803 bios and I think it also happends in 0902 ?
it only happends when OCing or when I turn off the power switch on my PSU :(
I am in serious trouble. I don´t understand how I can get back the same old problems I had with my old system while every single part is new???
I have really sucky cooling. Running at 3,5 and above made the temps go above 70... Didn´t feel comfortable with that. So to get decent temps I stayed with 3,1 gig at 1,2 V... It could pass Orthos even and everything was dandy.
But I noticed a few days ago I got distortion in my sound. Sound drivers corrupted reinstall fixed that...
Also Then I started to get some spontaneous reboots at times. Bluescreen followed by reboot???
Increasing voltage on CPU didn´t do nada if anything it made the problem worse lol.
Last time I got a real scare because I wouldn´t get a picture loading XP. Though I could see my keyboard wheel and such light up.
It would often hang upon recognizing my Raptors. However I have tested those and haven´t been able to find any fault on them?
Anyway Clearing CMOS was the only thing that helped me going back.
On my last computer it corrupted my installation so heavilly it couldn´t be loaded. The DFI would also loose several of my harddrives... Feels kind of strange that I would get several hard drive failures at once. Especially since they appear to be working great for periods lol.
But anyway would you think this is mainboard oriented or what? With the DFI I had to run everything absolutely everything at default settings. Do that on the Commando currently but would suck to be limited on 2,4 gig on a CPU that can do 3,6 with ease with proper cooling...
Also no 1T timings that is quite disappointing for a gamer :( My LCD TV has enough input lag as is already...
Now another weird problem after getting the 'beep'.
I was orthos stable at 340*9(3.06ghz), ram 4:5, and getting 3dmark01 score of 52xxx. After changing to water and getting the 'short beep' each time the system reboot, score now 48xxx. Even running at 3.45ghz orthos stable, it will generate score of only 53xxx.
GPU at 610/1025.
I am seeing similar drop in 3dmark06 even though I observed lower superPI score.
Anyone having same problems?
cpu is E6600
crucial ddr800
8800gtx
75gb raptor OS
Probably you are running now with PCI-e at 1x. Check it with cpu-z
Anyone with the BUZZ try the RMA?
I noticed that when I started running at 380FSB, I started to hear a high pitched tone. Is that what the buzz is?
What is best for 24/7 use?
1: FSB 400 x 9 = 3600MHz - Mem 4:5 @ DDR1000 CL 4-4-4-4 - 1066 Strap
2: FSB 515 x 7 = 3605MHz - Mem 1:1 @ DDR1030 CL 4-4-4-4 - 1333 Strap
What option is best and why ?
I've tried both but I cant decide what is best for me...
Run some tests, compare them and choose whatever suits you best. 3D, superpi etc.
Option 1 seems best from a parts longevity standpoint but since this is XS, everybody here seems to upgrade every quarter anyways.
I am getting an E6320 to play with. What do you guys think- Commando, P5B Deluxe Wifi, or DFI 965 Infinity?
I don´t know this board don´t seem 100 % stable...
Used to be stable as a rock but as of lately I get driver corruptions all the time???
running orthos for 10 hours you shouldn´t get driver corruptions when gaming you think...
So I flashed my bios to 0803 and start OC from defaults, everything was fine but occasionally, I will still get the reboot when exiting bios.
I was changing the voltages and after around one hour, the 'BEEP' occurs again. It only happens when exiting bios along with the reboot and when I switched off my pc(windows shutting down)
I am running E6600@3.45ghz ram4:5 blend test orthos 8hours last night.
What could be the problem?:( :( :(
Anyone??
The reboot is a feature, although annoying there's nothing you can do about it other then not changing settings in bios :D. If it could be fixed with a bios update that would already have been done dont you think?
beep issue when you reboot or shut down your system i suppose?
if that is the case, it is pretty common for commando even Asus is aware of it themselves.
It is probably due to the virbration of the coils when you power down your mobo...I have 3 commando before.. 1st one gives me constant beep when i shut down, 2nd is intermittent and the 3rd one finally does not have this beep :)
Try to see if you can sort out with your local distributor or shop that you bought from. See if they are willing to help.
Absolutely right.:toast: But my situation is first few times of reboot does not generate the beep.
But soon, the short 'beep' accompany the reboot and occurs when shutting down my pc.
To: rithina
Thanks bro.. will check that out. Did you get the 'beep' when you exit the bios after making changes?
Currently my rig is at 3.2 GHz but when I play games, the onboard sound doesn't seem to work right. Anybody experiencing this?
Are these voltages:
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/7573/voltagesiw7.jpg
ok or too high, for this setup:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/5972/400gw0.jpg
?
BIOS is 0803, the rest of the system is as per sig (ram 1/1) and all voltages are set to "Auto", except Vcore which is 1.4V and Vdimm which is 2V.
what your temps?
I cannot understand the reason that asus doesn't use the strap change option in bios like abit, dfi. It would be great..
yep i agree.Quote:
The reboot is a feature, although annoying there's nothing you can do about it other then not changing settings in bios
I'm pretty sure it does this to let the bios update the dmi pool. it only appears to happen on miner after adding new hardware &/or changing key bios settings.
@Chosen i'm happily running 9x400 24/7 & to be honest the only voltages i've manually set are vcore & vdimm, all others are on auto.
FSB Termination 1,3V
Nothbridge 1.35V (1,45 could be needed with 5:6 div)
A/B/Controller Ref voltage Auto
SB vcore 1,55V
SB Chipset 1,1V
These are the voltages I use up to 500+ fsb...:)
I am getting the beep now :(. 350 fsb...
And I who just got my last watercooling stuff to get a silent computer :(
I have watercooling too and my pump has a fan-connector, for monitoring the rpm; I've connected that on the CPU fan header and I'm happy.
I can monitor my pump's rpm and I don't get the beep :)
@Chosen
sorry man hadn't read your siggy. Makes great reading too, hope u keep it up 2 date. will check it out next time i change mobos:toast:Quote:

Must admit 1 of the 1st things i checked when i fitted my loop a couple of weeks back was the buzzing/whistling, thought air cooling might have masked it, but i'm ok:)
i cant pass orthos test..
with my old motherboard evga 680sli i can past 10h orthos with 1.44vcore but with commando i can't

all your voltages are quite high FSB VTT, NB, SB PCI, have you tried having them all lower than that
run them all lowest except NB at 1.3 to 1.4 maybe ?
Try on 1:1 1st then if that proives to be stable you kmow to focus on memory timings/volts to get to 4:5
i'm @1.55vcore for 3600(9x400) other than vdimm all other volts are auto.
you might try write to precharge at 12 if stilll struggling
luck:)
Hope watercooling helps then lol.
btw have anyone been successful with running AHCI mode on the hard drives? Would like to test it because the IDE performance is really craptacular with this board at times...
Got this with 1.6V Vcore and 1.55V in the NB (suicide screenshot :) )
Finished Wprime 32M at 3950 and Cinebench at 3850.
Getting pretty hot under the hood atm, so I think I will continue my search for the QX's limits, in a colder night...

This is a great board overall, feels like it's made of cement. Stability-wise, I can only compare it with my XBX2 & AW9D, but performance-wise it just cannot be matched, by any of the boards that I owned (in my sig)
any reason why other than frying it 2.3~2.5v maybe but mid 3v???Quote:
Blacklash
I'd try ram voltage high up in 2v or mid 3v, ie 2.8-3.5v.
