@trenchdog73: Pin 9 is the opposite of the blind pin. If you cut it your USB will work just fine. Believe me i had to do the same.

@Rattletrap: This solution is also from the MSI forum: You should disable the J-Micron controller in the BIOS than your RAID will work as well with the newer BIOS. The J-Micron controller will still work for CD-ROM or DVD but not for harddisks. Just use the intel one for this. MSI is already busy to solve this later on.

But now a question from me to all of you:

If I use ORTHOS for more than 4 hours and i switch off my PC it just shut off without saving, it is like take away the power. I had the same issue with 2 different ASUS P5W DH. Is that normal with the 975X chipset? :confused:
With a P5B Deluxe I did not had this issue but the RAM is much slower with P965 chipset and also the ICH8R is much slower in restoring or creating ghost images. So i bought the MSI board. I really like this board the only problem is left is the shutdown issue after long stress like ORTHOS and the RAM :stick: 5-5-6-12 issue.

Please let me now if the shutdown thing is normal. Or what could that be? It drives me crazy....:dammit:

I will try clipping the 9th wire. I don't have USB on my case. I have one of those 21 to 1 card reader/usb things that occupy a drive bay. I also have the USB thing that comes with the motherboard (and installs in a card slot hole). Would I clip the wires on those? I also have a SEAWELL 7 port powered USB hub, would I clip number nine on that too?

On another note. I have my system set up to boot two drives on a RAID 0 (that is my drive c). Then I have 2 drives on the IDE 0 channel (which are my old saved data) and 2 CD drives on the IDE 1 channel. With this setup RAID does not work after BIOS 7.16

I am thinking of getting a couple SATA drives and replacing my IDE HDD's and just remove the problem all together. Then I will have a RAID 0 boot, 2 backup single SATA drives. Then I need to figure out something for the 2 DVD/DL drives.

If I'm not mistaken either HDD controller can be set up to be IDE, or RAID right? So what you are suggesting is switching which controller I am using for my RAID?

thanks for the help, Ill try clipping when I get home. I found it on the msi forum the 9th wire is actually the one labeled 10, the ocshield wire. I hope this solves my problems, we will see shortly.

Hey guys, any luck with vios 7.35?

I have the same problem most of you have, i can't boot at DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 2.1V. All i get is DDR2-800 5-5-6-15, even when i force 5-5-5-15 in the bios.

I'm guessing that the Command Rate is being forced to 1T and without the option to change it to 2T, we can't do a thing :(.

Maybe your RAM isn't D9 but Elpida?

I tried bios 7.33 but my raid won't work, this has happened on every release since 7.22 which is what I'm on right now. Is there a special trick to get my board to recognize my raid-0 volume on these newer releases?

That is for all versions above 7.1 official thus 7.22, 7.25, 7.20. 7.33, 7.35 My RAID 0 is working with all of this BIOS. I just don't use the J Micron controllers.

Yeah only in 667.I cant seem to reach 800 with 4-4-4-12 only 4-5-6-12 but i haven't try 7.35 yet.I try it tomorrow....

I have tried 7.35 and with raid seems to have no problem if u disable J Micron controller.I wana ask u in which fsb are u running with DDR800?Also if u have tried 7.2 official for memory DDR Mhz

So 7.35 beta is no different than 7.2 official as far as arm goes.

I haven't overclocked yet, and i won't do it until i get my ram to it's rated speed.

Of course not as there is no such option, seems like that ramguy is pretty clueless.

That awful!! I will try the test myself to see about mine cards.Except setting DDR800,V2.1 and latency 4-4-4-12 is there something else about USB that i need to do because i cant understand them too?

Well, I put the 7.33 beta BIOS in and everything works just as it did. I had to Disable the JMB controller. (Of course that cuts one of my IDE ports). I copied all my backup stuff onto one IDE backup drive. Now I have the following:

MSI 975x PUE
Intel e6600
(2) Mushkin 991523 1GB Mem 4-4-3-10 Running at 800mhz (hard to get now)
FSB at 270 / 1.5:1 (if memory serves me)
(2) Maxtor SATA drives on RAID 0 for boot
(1) Maxtor IDE for backup of work
(1) Lite-On Litescribe DVD/RW
EVGA Geforce 7900GT

Everything Runs rock solid, but still trying to get usb 2.0 working. I checked the internal USB cables to see if there were any wires on the 9th ot 10th pin of the connectors, but now there isn't. One of the supplied back panel connectors did, but I unplugged that one. Now when I go into Windows (Vista) it tries to load USB 2.0 drivers and it crashes. I am going to unplug all my usb devices and try again. Then add devices one at a time. I will let you know what happens

Can anyone tell me if this is correct.

I have my CPU FSB set at 320mhz
Memory Divider at 1:1.25 4-4-4-12 at 2.1V
If i understand this correctly, DDR2 RAM is clocked at 2 times the CPU FSB. Ordinarily that would be 320*2 = 640mhz, however with the divider at a 1:1.25 ratio, it would then be 320 + (320*0.25) = 400mhz, which then equals to 800mhz. CPU-Z reports 400mhz, and i guess i'd have to assume that it's multipled by 2, However, Bios still shows 667mhz. Am i really getting 400mhz (DDR-800) according to CPU-Z or 667 mhz according to the BIOS.

If i am correct, i have managed to reach CPU FSB at 350mhz
Memory Divider at 1:1.25 4-4-4-12 at 2.1 V with no problems.
This would then equal to 350 + (350*.25) = 437.5, which in turn results in DDR-875. CPU-Z confirms the 437.5mhz memory frequency, however BIOS still reports 667mhz.

Can anyone confirm if this makes any sense or am i just throwing numbers around and multiplying whatever i want...lol

Hi, The bios does not report or calculate anything. It just tells you that the divider 1:1,25 is 667 by FSB 266. The same is for 1:1,5 for 800. If you play with the FSB you have to calculate yourself.
Now in short term: Just believe CPU-Z or Everest.

So ANewPrelusion your memory (set at DDR2 800 1:1.5 4-4-4-12 2.1V) won't boot with an FSB of 266 but it will when the FSB is set at 320 (and DDR2 800 1:1.25 4-4-4-12 2.1V)?

My memory set at DDR2 800 1:1.5 4-4-4-12 @2.1V with 266 mhz FSB DOES boot, however CPU-Z automatically detects it at 4-5-6-12 timings. However, when FSB is set to 320mhz (DDR2-800 1:1.25 4-4-4-12 @2.1 V), CPU-Z confirms it as the rated 4-4-4-12 (can go tighter as well) rather than 4-5-6-12.

Looks like we have to OC the CPU in order to get the true rated speeds and timings that Corsair indicates for our memory.

Man that's just crazy, as you've raid mine won't even boot. Seems like the issue could be with the memory multiplier ?!?!?


How did your temperatures show up while using 320fsb, much of an increase?

At 355 FSB (Wanted to reach 3.2Ghz), Dual Core Center reports ~43C idle and 50~ Load. Coretemp reports about 2C higher than Dual Core Center. Although it has been environmentally cool lately.

I have an MSI 7900GTX on my MSI975x. I've read the dual core center manual and it states that Dual Core Center can also monitor VGA temps and whatnot as long as it's an MSI Graphics card. Currently I am unable to monitor VGA stats on Dual Core Center due to the fact that it is greyed out. Can anyone tell me how to activate this feature?

But today I set the multiplier to 6x, but max FSB is still 415. What is holding me back then? PCIe volt doesn't do anyting. My memory is rated at 400mhz, and I have used it at over 450, so thats not the problem. My NB is watercooled. Is it the MB itself that can't go over 415 FSB?

I'm considering nabbing one of these and I guess my question after reading this thread in its entirety is this: should I or should I not? The price I'm looking at is just over $100 so it seems to be quite a deal. I'm looking to OC either a e4300 or e6300 if I can't wait 'til Jan to make a purchase.

I have had very few problems with my board so I would say go for it. Just update the bios as soon as u get it and your golden. I have had good performance and stability. I will be upgrading when the rd600/3200 ie hits the shelf just because of the chipset and my crossfire, but this board has done its duty as long as I have had it.

Your board is maxed out I'm affraid. Mine topped out around 430 unstable but benchable. Max stable was 415 after replacing stock NB heatsink. Thus you see in my sig a Asus P5W64 WS Pro, now I can take my 6600 up to 4ghz.

Saying that my MSI was and is still faster up to 415fsb even when I run my Asus with 4:5 divider at those speeds still cannot beat my best 3dmarks with the 975X Plat.

If only MSI made their board more OC friendly.:party:

I have a question though I just let my board take care of the dividers and such my memory is running 4:5 should I run 1:1? I have Crucial 10th anniversary DDR2-667.

After market, Thermaltake and Swiftech have very good NB coolers. I was running the Thermaltake and couldn't believe the stability I gained. Either one will do nicely.

I also wanted to note that using the Jmicron or w/e for your devices slows down your boot time everytime it boots it tells you whats connected to it and such I decided to go with the Intel chipset route as it eliminates this problem.

If anyone could answer my question as I stated earlier would running 1:1 ratio over 4:5 really make a difference?

Edit: when I changed my ratio to 1:1 it changed my memory to 533mhz so I just kept it 4:5

You guys realize that the chipset cooler really limits the FSB OC of this board. Try placing a 80MM fan pointing right at it, or purchase aftermarket cooling.

I've noticed the same thing. I have two 120mm fans sitting right in front of the board and I've gotten 440MHz bench stable (close to Orthos stable). The problem with this board is the weird quirks like the booting issues, the klugey Windows anamolies, etc. If MSI could fix those problems, this would be an awesome board.

I just recently found this forum while hunting for some reviews of the MSI 975x board. MSI had been good to me in the past, so I got this one out of blind faith. :nono:

I have put up pictures of the PC and all components, except the Extreme Spirit II that's on the Northbridge chipset. All pictures can be found at http://www.firebane.net/new_rig.html Only thing I've noticed so far is that my RAM is rated as 667 even though it's 800.

Everything is running standard, haven't updated the BIOS yet or tried OCing. Will give that a run in a short while. I plan on using BIOS revision #7246_722. Here's information from CPU-Z--

I flashed using the 730 official MSI BIOS. FSB is at 333 right now. Full details are in the image below. I'm going to let it run at that speed for a while, see how it goes.

I tried raising RAM voltage to 2.2, as Mushkin says it's rated up to that high. Could not get Windows to boot. Tried 3 times, same thing. Dropped to 2.1, everything is fine. I haven't touched the vMCH yet, that is still default.

I am a bit confused with the CPU temps though. The Windows utilities read 38-41 or so right now, but in the BIOS it reads about 50-52. Anyone wanna try and guess which one is accurate? :confused:

I will say this, Mushkin kicks ass. Been buying their RAM for many years, and never ever had a problem. Dunno if you wanna call the voltage issue a "problem" though. :D

Not sure why that happens with your bios temps. All the motherboards I have had have done that as well (Bunch of Intel boards and this MSI board). The bios temps always tend to be 10-20c higher than the windows readings.

I bumped up the FSB to 366
Vcore - 1.40 (since dropped to 1.38, testing for minimum voltage needs)
PCIE Freq - 100
vMCH - 1.55
RAM is 1:1 dropped back the timings from rated 4-5-4-11. I'll try faster after stability has been determined with current ratings.

I today replaced the Mini Typhoon with the Zalman CNPS9700LED. CPU temps dropped by about 18-20 degrees. The readings by Core Temp and Dual Core Center are about 3-4 degrees off now, instead of 10-12.

400 seems close, but at this point, I am nervous to push my system any farther. While technically it could probably go much harder, I have an active imagination. In my mind I see my motherboard exploding, parts failing, frying and me with no gaming PC. Maybe once I'm more secure with the higher FSB. :)

I see there is a new Bios version 7.40 out today, my version is 7.20, "which at the moment is working fine for me" the last 2 times I updated my Bios, everything worked fine, except my MSN browser, which is provided to me by Verizon Fios Fiber broadband, it seems to lose all it's settings and does not allow me to log on, even redownloading it does not work, only a complete hardrive cleanup and freash Win XP install seems to solve the problem, which I am not about to go through again for a third time, having to reload all my programs is really annoying, what could be causing this problem.

I just ordered a E6600, what are the best overclock settings for this CPU mobo combo, does it overclock the same way a prescott does.

but remember to disable c1, speedstep, and spread spectrum.

Still the same. I heard with each successive bios version, it gets crappier. In the latest official 7.4 bios, some options completely vanish and can't even be selected. I am still on the 716 beta and can do 450 fsb +, so I am happy.

RAID doesn't work. I have the 7.4 BIOS... Win reboots about half-way through when RAID is activated in BIOS.

Any suggestions?

well, if it makes any of you feel better, my P5LD2 has problems holding a PD950 at 4.03 Ghz, lol.
