I finally finished my build, and got an unlucky Q6600. VID of 1.3V, I report a synthesis of my OC experience 'till now:
- 3.6GHz seems to be the "sweet spot", requiring a still healthy (I suppose) 1.47 V real;
- I'm now running 3.7GHz, pushing 1.52V real into the core, just because I didn't find any entertaining bandwidth performance for the 3.6GHz target: 450MHz FSB pushes my Mushkin at 1080MHz (333/800) and they aren't stable there, while 400MHz FSB offers awful bandwidth scores.
- I used to run a very, very nice 3825MHz with 266/667 (DDR2-1066), with best CPU and bandwidth results, but it needed 1.58V real. It was a couple hours Prime stable (never pushed further). Then I put NB and MOSFETs under water in the same loop, with the same weak pump, and CPU temps raised about 5°C: after that, my Prime temps would quickly run above 70°C under load. I thought it were nice, because real applications never pushed it past 60°C. Actually all this wasn't nice: even if real apps temperature were fine, the voltage itself maybe wasn't: after a few weeks I discovered it had become unstable. I supposed I was heavily degradating my CPU, so I switched to the aforementioned 3.7GHz target.
- I managed to boot and browse some web pages @ 4 GHz, but every CPU-intensive application (even normal ones, not Prime nor Orthos) suddenly crashed.
So, that's the story.
My values (REAL ONES) for the specs in signature (411*9) are the following:
- CPU Vcore: 1.52V
- NB Voltage: 1.4V
- FSB VTT: 1.4V
- CPU PLL / SB: stock 1.51V
- GTL REF CPU0/3: 111
- GTL REF CPU1/2: 111
- GTL REF NB: 110

Well the build is open air on the bench until tomorrow. ambient is perhaps 25c and cores are mid to late 50's c with xigmatek s1283 loaded 100% running boinc. However it's not the core temps to watch, my PWM temp soared to 89c. I replaced the tim on the chipset sinks and have a 90mm fan on it so it's all good now at around 60c.
my core temps with those settings ran to high, the were like 65-70c so i lowered fsb to 390, vcore to 1.3425 bios / cpuz 1.25 right now under load. core temps are 59-65c under load. moved all the other voltage down to default. also the pwm right now is 60c according to cpuid hardware monitor under load.
Ok, I really think the psu I'm using for this temporary setup may be a factor in my voltage needs. It's a cheap rosewill I bought for an opty 150 rig. When I do the final build it'll be in the case with an ocz psu and I think I'll see way less drop.
thanks for the help prime been running for bout 2 hrs wit me play world in conflict no errors yet. so hopefully no errors. it may be rosewill i bought their psu once nothing but stutters and hiccups on my old amd 64
I have a few questions. Is 4ghz @ 1.5v ok for a Q6600 GO? Is that a good clock with that voltage? I can't seem to get anything above that to be stable. I can load vista (ultimate 64) at 4.4 @ 1.54 or 4.2 @ 1.5, but after about a min of prime or everest it will crash. I can't get anything above 4ghz to be stable reguardless of voltage. What is the safest amount of volts the Q6600 can handle 24/7 (I know its all relitave, but in general)? I have an IX-38m, 4gb of patriot 1066 ram, ocz 850w psu, and I'm on phase at about -40c idle and -35c load. So, bottom line, should I be happy with what I have?Thanks.
Can you explain what influence the CPU GTL REF has on getting Q6600 G0's stable? I have mine up at 72% and 72% on the hope that it might let me lower vcore a bit. I'm not sure what those numbers equate to on the IP35 Pro.

lol, yeah the rosewill is definately a throw away but it'll run the 150 opteron with a gf8500. The psu that'll power the abit after tomorrow is an ocz powerstream 600 adj.
edit: the build is strictly as a dedicated cruncher, will have a 7800gt, 2x2gb ocz ddr2 800 reaper hpc cl4, and 1 each hdd, floppy, dvdr. It will run at 3600 24/7 100% load for as long as I can pay the light bill. :D
my VID is 1.275 which is not horrible, i have 2 friends with 1.325.
mine requires 1.47v in BIOS to run 3.6, but i think my Big Typhoon might be holding me back because my temps are around 73C on full load @ 3.6
im tempted to buy a TRUE and lap it, but dont think it would be worth it for an extra couple hundred MHz.
Yes ballpark for Q6600 is around 65oC max temp (FOR STABILITY) after that you can have a core failing during Prime95 high load.
My needs 1.268vcore in BIOS to run my 24/7 settings and will reach 55-59oC on Blend Text (Prime or OCCT) in a hot day with the Rad fans in low speed (7v) and the case closed:

I would buy a WC kit for quads, put a hundred bucks more on those expensive air sinks you guys are buying and that will give ya a decent pump + a dual 120mm rad + a Dtek Fuzion block and voila you in temp heaven with no clumsy huge 5kilos HS on your cases and with no noise at all...
Just search eBay for Dtek or water cooling complete kits...

One of my TT BT are lapped & the other isn't. Helped some no dout.
Not sure witch you have, I have both models. One only runs 1350 RPM's, were the other runs 1950 RPM's.
You can pick up a FAN, TT 120CM SMART CASE FAN II A2029 that will run up to around 2580 RPM's max & will help a lot.
The two I just ordered brought my temps down almost 10c when running max RPM for both. 71c was my highest temp on the non lapped now drop to 61c.
i lapped it a while ago and i have a FM121 fan on it so it seemed to help quite a bit
Sorry not trying to rub it in or anything, I was just wondering if I should be happy with my results. So right now I'm at 445x9=4ghz. I went to 4.2 @ 1.52, but I dont think it is completely stable and I'm still messing with it. Does all of this sound ok? IX-38 board:

use Coretemp to find your VID and temp for all 4 cores.
You can find it under CoreTemp > VID or Everest > CPU Info > Core Voltage (below DIE Size).
If you consider they start at 1.20v and go beynd 1.33v you have a high VID cpu, but that didn't seam to stop you from getting a great OC.
Did you try to run Prime95 blend test or OCCT to see if your results are stable there is a huge difference between high clocked runs that you can get in Windows and play some games and work web/text editing etc and running a 100% stable clock.
You guys should use Real Temp for more accurate core temperatures. The problem with Core Temp is that it reads the G0 Q6600's TjMax as 100*C but according to intel the G0 revision's TjMax is actually 95*C. So temperatures read with Core Temp can be +5*C off.
Here is the latest version of Real Temp. Also, I do not agree that exceeding 65*C compromises stability because Intel sets their thermal specification at 71*C and you have until you hit the TjMax before the processor begins to throttle itself.
Start from beginning and keep it simple, cool the CPU first and only and by the time you get used to it you hole mobo will be taken.
No need to worry today's blocks are very secure especially if you go for the top quality ones and even when you have a leak the mobo will shut down because of the high temps and the fluid won't harm any of your circuits because it's non-conductive.
I've read about cases here in XS Forum that ppl running WATER got a leak from a crappy block and it really shorted the board, the guy just unplugged everything and let it dry in the sun and everything worked like wonders again.
Just avoid cheap stuff below look for brands like Dtek, Swiftech, EK, Hardware Labs black Ice etc you'll be fine.

I've run prime and everst, both for hours, but I'm having problems with some games and apps being stable (think it is a driver issue). My phase will hold -35c under load all night under prime or everst, so I think that it is stable.
