just using cpu-z mine is as follows-
1.3vcore set in bios=1.296v on win idle.
1.3vcore set in bios=1.264v running orthos.
is this bad?
Hello Everyone,
I've been playing with my Asus P5B Deluxe Wi/Fi. I overclocked to 3.7 and it seemed to be stable. I was playing BF2142 for about 2 ours and all of a sudden my PC Probe alams go off. The CPU temp jumped to 85c. My alarm is set for 55c. I exited quickly, reset all BIOS 0804 setting to default and went back into window. Now both Speedfan and CPU-Z only see 1 core (see attached pic). The BIOS does see 2 Processors.
Also, I was installing MBM monitoring tool and hadn't rebooted yet. so wen I went to reboot it wouldn't start Windows. I repaired XP and updated back to SP2.
Any ideas why Speedfan/CPU-Z/Orthos now only see 1 core?
Anyone else ever see this?
System spec's in my sig.
I am new to building PC's from scratch but I have a pretty good knowledge base of computer parts and I am interested in doing some slight overclocking. I want to use this computer as a DVR and I also would like to run Vista on it in the future. I have laid out what I think seems to be a decent system. Some components I am unsure about and would like any constructive inputs. Thanks for any help. The items I am missing are listed below.
Motherboard:
ASUS P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi-AP Edition Motherboard
CPU:
IntelŪ Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe Processor 2.13GHz, 1066FSB, LGA775, 2MB Cache
CPU Cooling Fan:
??
Video Card:
ATI All-In-Wonder 2006 Edition Radeon X1300 PCI Express 256MB DDR3 Video Card w/DVI-I, VGA & VIVO Retail
Memory:
??
Case:
Thermaltake Black Armor Full-Tower ATX Case with 11 External Drive Bays, Clear Side, Front USB, Firewire and Audio Ports
Power Supply:
??
Hard Drive:
Recommended Brands?
I guess you're not a gamer if you're getting that video card...
Stock fan is fine, if you're not doing heavy overclocking. You can do 3.2ghz easily.
You can do more but some DDR2-6400 (800mhz) will be fine for up to 400fsb, more with volting. Any decent 6400, lots of people like the newer overclocking brands, me, I was lame and got Corsair DDR2-6400 (Cas 5).
Power supply - Enermax, Seasonic are good brands...you won't need but 400 watts I think. Stay away from Antec and cheap crap. Someone will flame me but Antec still has problems these days.
Seagate 7200.10 series has a good combination of speed and price. SATA II, meaning 300 mb/s theoretical burst. You must F6 install Intel's drivers to get that though and remember to take the jumper off the back!

for all who have the Jmicron as Pata controler, here is a new Jmicron driver who gives you the choice to install raid driver or usual ide driver, so your dvd burner ar no more show as Scii. You can dl it here:
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/jmicron.htm
last version : 1.17.08.01. Extract, install and choose standard ide when ask :)
WOW! This board is almost perfect. I'm glad I went with it. Just need to fix their sound now.
anyone use eSATA HDD with the JMICRON?Quote:

sure, but a lot don't use raid on the Jmicron, so this driver is the best choice , as your dvd burner are no more identified as Scii.
Sure, if you are on raid with the Jmicron , you can dl this driver but choose raid installation as usual. That's great about this: it gives you the choice.

i will use eSATA with Hotplug. my old board Asus P5W64 (micron eSATA-Chip)have no problem with Hotplug.Quote:

dudes....what could i try ?
@vicfalc:
dump the crappy video card and dump the case.
x1300 is super crap. don't even try hdtv with that thing.
get a 7600 or a x1950 pro and that will last you. then a hauppage or some tv tuner for hd OTA.
thermaltake cases are crap, but thats my opinion. since your going to use it with a tv, get a silent one. my p180b is right beside me and with the fans turned down, its only a whisper.
and don't even use a stock cooler if your OC'ing. its totally worth it to get a 3rd-party HSF. such as TT big typhoon, scythe infinity/ninja, tuniq tower 120.
as for the rest, i need to see your budget first.
from what i gather, maybe seagate 320 gig drives in RAID would do for hdtv recording, ocz evostream or silverstone PSU if you can spend the money. for the memory, you should definitely get team 5300 2x1gig kit. don't go ocz for ddr2; ive tried it.
awaiting your response
i got it ! it is my PSU....i turned everything of but the two hard disks and the x1900xt. now no reboots.
so....i'll use it like this until i can by a new PSU next month
Buy an Antec Neo HE. If you want quiet and good power.
Hi I am new to these forums and just return to custom building my own systems.
I currently built a system that I intend to overclock with, but after reading the forums, I am wondering if I purchased the right memory. I am new to overclocking and to building new systems so I am still reading alot on these forums and apologize if this information is to be found somewhere.
My memory timings are very different from what I am seeing people use with the E6600 and Asus P5B-DLX.
I am listing my current system status. I am unsure whether I should keep pushing FSB or not, until I better determine if my memory timings will mess up my overclocking.
E6600 @ 3.0 ghz (334 x 9)
Asus P5B-DLX Bios: 0507
geforce 7600 gs (until 8800 gtx arrives)
OCZ 2g10002gk pc8000 Gold XTC @ 5-6-6-15
WD Raptor 10k rpm
Zalman 9700 HSF
thermaltake 650 W PSU
everything currently seems stable @ 334 x 9
but unsure how far to push with this memory timings.
also unsure about Bios version.
Should I exchange this Ram kit for something else?
or is is my hardware ok and i just need to adjust things?
currently i have only upped the FSB.
thank you.
update:
actually i seem to be hitting 400 x 9 for 3.6 ghz ok
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/795/1stsyszu2.jpg
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/2096/temp1stki9.jpg
Specs:
E6400
P5B DLX
2x1Gb TeamXtreem (D9)
BFG 7900GS
Seagate 7200.10 250Gb
Antec Trupower trio 650W
Now no matter what settings I use, nothing will let me get past 385FSb (3080MHz) Id like to know how you guys are reaching 400+FSb? Also would the eVGA 680i clock better than this board?
@vicfalc
I'm posting here instead of PM since it probably will be help to other people in your boat.
Criteria: HDTV watching (all in one gfx card), e6400, and p5b. budget $900 PLUS a good overclock :D
e6400
p5b dlx
team group 5300 (d9gmh)
HDDs of your choosing
nvidia 7600 + hauppauge (or ati) tuner (you can't get away with a good gfx card and a tuner all in one)
scythe infinity or big typhoon
this so far kinda is tight on your budget at 900. psu and case are your choices too, 500w seasonic will be enough, and the case...if it is certainly a HTPC, then you'll need something quiet, then comes into account size and airflow. look over at SPCR (silentpcreview). they're quite up to date.
This is probably the most we can help you, because the less minor specifics have flexibility. a HTPC at $900 is certainly doable.
there are some FSB hules. Try 425 or higher FSB and see if it works.. Also play with the voltageQuote:

Have you done any stress testing yet? Doing Orthos or duel instances of Prime will test your CPU Cores at 100%. You should be able to run for over 2 hours without getting too hot. Your at 52c at idle right now... You have to be comfortable with the temps. The E6600 is rated for 60c max.
You are down rev on the BIOS. Update that to 0804. I've seen that 0903 is out but it's not on ASUS so it must be a beta version (anyone have a comment on 903 and whether to get/use it or not?)
Are all of your BIOS settings the defaults other than the FSB and Memory timings? There are good stickies on starting settings and how to tweek.

set your fsb to 401 and go from there. i didn't even try anything from 266-401 fsb. the motherboard has a hard time clocking in that area because the northbridge is getting worked really hard. it relaxes things after 400 fsb.Quote:
