I have used the same chip..(730M and 740M) with the same cooler (Zalman CPS7000Alcu) in both P4P800-SE, P4P800-E Dlx.. and P4GPL-X.
At the same VCore.. the P4GPL-X reports (at least) 10 degrees higher load temps.

Hi there. I have three questions:
1. I've read a bit here and there about that there's people who own a Dothan Engineering Sample and that this would particularly be an interesting Dothan to use and overclock. But what I don't get is: what do these Engineering Samples have that the regular Dothans don't have? The regular ones have Speed Stepping, allowing their multiplier to be adjusted, right? So the interesting thing about the Engineering Samples can't be that they have their multipliers unlocked, it seems to me. Or do they have them FULLY unlocked, as in that they allow being set at higher multipliers than the regular Dothans allow?
2. If I get it right, the i915 chipsets don't have a decent PCI-E lock. Isn't it possible to bypass these problems by using a turbo-pll, just like back in the RDRAM ages?
3. If it isn't possible to get the PCI-E fixed, would it then really be such an ugly thing to use a PCI videocard when having the mobo set at high FSB's? I am not a gamer anyway, so would a PCI videocard really be that crappy?

Super! Thank you very much!!! Because then I know now that in case if I decide to go Dothan eventually, I probably better don't buy the Dothan 750 ES that I found somewhere(?) And also that I might be able to run my OCZ EL DDR PC-4800 Platinum Elite Edition at 300(+)FSB at a CPU:RAM setting of 1:1 together with my 3.46GHz Prescott Pentium 4 ES (which has the multiplier unlocked by the way). However, despite that I already have the brand new P4GD1 and CT-479 still laying in their packagings waiting to be used, these high FSB/CPU/RAM speeds that I might be able to achieve with my Pentium 4 ES and OCZ sticks now make me wonder if I'm still so much interested into going Dothan though. Hummm... Anyway, the only thing I need to do now, is buy a PCI-E videocard and I can start assembling the system. :) And then as soon as I have the rig running, I can always to decide and switch over to Dothan afterall of course. Ok, now I'm doubting again; according to Kiwi the i915P does NOT have a decent working PCI-E lock. And this is what I have read about before but was not 100% certain about yet. Please take a look at: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...34#post1312434 I think I tend to believe now, that my P4GD1 / i915P does not have the PCI-E lock working at the 300MHz FSB that I want.
IT DOES HAVE A LOCK AND A WORKING ONE TOO
setting the pci-e freq has nothing to do with a lock, whatever you set it to in bios will stay locked at that freq.
yes you do need a very high pci-e freq to reach 300fsb but that doesn't mean theres no lock

when you set in BIOS whatever values to PCI-E and PCI, woiuld it be AUTO OR WHATEVER FREQUENCY.... well it just does not lock there, it stayas the same as before depending from FSB.... so it is really annoying.
both systems I have they have x850xt and one has no problem, but the other one does not like to boot into windows with 100Hz refresh rate. maybe it is the card, but maybe it is PCI-E bus.....
show me your pics that it locked and the way to do it.....

well, yes, the new one shows it is locked.... then how would you explain that i had my 1gbit adapter just not to show in windows for some time??? I thought it was PCI....

Hi all, I just want to share a thing happened to my 740+CT479+P4P800E/DLX combo 2 days ago. I had this mobo for 6months and was rock stable with my 2.0A@3. Two days ago I bought a 740 and the ct, it worked great for a while with nice clocks (around 2.70-2.80 stable).
I was searching for the sweet spot and the highest stable frequency to reach a safe point around -100MHz below the maximum (for a safe daily use). Safe.. well. I was playing with EIST and clockgen clocking up and down when suddenly CG stopped working saying something about not finding the PLL anymore. The system was still fine, but after the reboot... Died. Cleared the CMOS, changed CPU, PSU, GPU, XPU, YPU and ZPU, switched everything. Died.
Fried PLL? I don't know. I have a P4P800-SE coming in a couple of days and a P4P800E returning from Taiwan sometime this year -.- .
End of the sad story. :confused:

Is your system fully stable at 2600Mhz when setting your parameters in bios?
if not it might be the max limit of your cpu (my 730@2600= reboot)
By the way: your vcore @1.6 =vmod or vcore adjust in bios?
