New 1009.03 beta BIOS for P4P800-SE allows multi and vcore adjustment (woo hoo!).
Pics here
Any experiences with the new P4P800SE bios?
Im posting from my laptop, uz my board tells me I have a new CPU installed, and that I should enter bios to set it properly up! I get that message EVERY time i boot.
Im gonna try the new bios, see if it helps...
Hi, just read on the first page of the thread that with p4p800 its dificult to get above 170FSb, is that really true? any chance that a bios update give us p4p800 official ct-479 support, not beta bios crap?
Wuld you recomend going with p4p800+dothan 730 or isn't my board ok for, let's say 2.5-2.6 overclocks?
Thanks guys
They have official bioses with ct-479 support but they suck monkey-balls.Quote:

If you have a P4P800 board I would stick with it.
But if you're buying a new one and/or you funds allow to buy a new one I would get a P4C800(E)-(Dlx) or an P4GD1 :)
I need to clean up on the frontpage.
Is it fair to divide the P4C and P4P boards into two categories instead of P4C800-E, P4C800-E Deluxe, P4P800SE, P4P800 and so forth...?
Any suggestions as to how to make the frontpage more clear are welcome :toast:
Not yet, got some real work to do today. Then (maybe tonight) I am ripping the cascade off of the X800XTPE, which BTW is pissin me off to no end, and putting it on the Dothan. Let's see what she can do at -85C and a new BIOS. :slobber:Quote:

Nah, I can go 274 (at least) on my board. I think this new bios that allows you to set the multi in the bios is huge if it works. It no longer means that the 760/770's are only for phase change, since you don't have to boot at 3GHz+ to get the 201 FSB features (additional ratios, locked AGP/PCI).Quote:

For some reason my cpu is not clocking as well as it did earlier, but hey.. who cares... :D
Used Eist to reduce mltpl, CG to increase fsb, 875/865 tweaker to adust mem timings. p4C800E dlx mainboard with Vdroop and Vcore mod, u mod on cpu.. 1022.003 bios..
Never thought i would ever see 38k
Yes sir! Im back in business!
Found out that the small poles holding the mounting frame were pushing very slightly to the adapter from the bottom up, due to the fact that I had the board laying on the box it came in.
Now, I simply mounted the small "she"-screws that normally holds the board to the tray so that it rest on those. The board is now nicely elevated from the surface eliminating the issue...
What a noobie-mistake :D
But I got it sorted out :)
Now, we seriously need to figure out a way to get PAT at 200+ FSB on that 865 chipset!
Great scores, congrats, but jeez get some improved RAM! Even 2.5 could put you into the 22 second club, and a lot of RAM will do 2.0 at 261. I've ordered a RAM booster for just this.
What clocks is your card running at?
You have me motivated to go cascade tonight, but I have work to do!

Hey guys,
I saw recently that some new bioses came out for the asus board + the CT-479.
Do you know about a new bios for the P4GD1? (like 1006.03 or something)
thanks.
An OVERKLOKK modded Mach II with R507@-50 evap, with Chilly1 evap. Works like a charm.. The videocard is completely stock as far as cooling goes, but the clock was 590/595..Quote:

Did you have any problems with your mobo? what bios were you running? Want to go for dothan action but don't know if my p4p800 std, (non deluxe) would work ok.
I've had an eye on this thread for a while...
I have an P4C800-E Deluxe, and a MachII. What would the ideal CPU (740/750 etc..) be, and Bios?
Cheers
About the P4P800/AGP/PAT issue...
I was thinking about a workaround. What if the CPU is recognized as 200 MHz FSB? Then maybe PAT will work above 200...
Remember Athlon XP used with Abit NF7 and other nF2 mobos? You could reach higher FSB OC after making a U-wire mod, making the CPU recognized as 200 FSB. The situation is not comparable but you get the idea.
The difference is that there's no 200 FSB PM, but back then there were 200 FSB AXP, so the BIOS may not like the mod, but I still think it's worth the try!
In a similar way we have seen drawbacks with having the FSB jumpers set to 100 FSB (instead of 133). The bigger difference between the recognized FSB and the actual FSB, the more trouble >>>> raise the recognized FSB!?
...or have you already tried?
Another nugget for the CT-479... annoyed with the noisy 70mm fan on the stock CT-479 HS/F?? Pick up a 70mm>80mm Fan Adapter... and swap it out for a quiet 80mm fan and gain about 10cfm.

Just flashed to the latest bios, full multi control available (though cant see to boot at 6*) 12,11,10 and 9 are all fine, will test lower in a bit.
Nice work asus :D Should mean the higher multi'd chips can be booted at 200 fsb now.
Anyone have a 400 fsb chip that can be tested, see if they boot at higher fsb's?

Whats the easiest way to get stable vcore on the P4P800SE board?
I suspect too much fluctuation to be holding me back...
I cant get above 2700MHz no matter the vcore.
It's equally stable at 2650 with either 1.5 or 1.6 vcore...
Would the u-wire mod give me above 1.6vcore with the newest bios?
The new 1022BETA BIOS is just awesome...
Look, Dothan pretending to be A64!!!!

An interesting compare, winrar compression... The Dothan beat A64 (see bottom pic. This seems to be memory bw dependant though, and a gig helps a fair amount over 512.)
Dothan as above, slightly lower bus speed

charlie; that one looks just as AMD as my Pi score :)
Gautam; got any tweak-tips? Im currently running XP SP1 DX8, no Ricky tweak, lots of services disabled. Trying SP2 now. Anything else?
Nice score, try windows 2k and SP4, should give a little boost.
Got 1 9800 run in with TCCD, needs re-running with a clean install, maybe windows 2k, some older drivers etc...

Not bad for an all air run though, these Dothans pwn!

In fact, you are correct Intel seems to prefer XP over 2k, though sure someone mentioned 2k might be good for ~ 100 points more. If you run a fullly tweaked XP, boot in diag mode, run a services killer etc, sure its as good tbh.
Yea the older cats seem to do a little better 01 wise, ran those as they were on from a 9500NP @ pro softmodded bench, just wanted to get a rough idea of what the card could do..
What do you consider to be "a fully tweaked XP"? Apart from the things you already mentioned?Quote:

Last question here, that mulit option looks awsome, but can you go higher? Is say a 730 capped at 12 multi and lower, or could you do say, 13 / 14 (worried about 1:1 ram as mine maxes at 250 atm). ahhh look at me, I am worried about all this and I dont even have the cpu yet :p: Dothan madness I say. Its like an A64 in Intels best chipset (875) :slobber:
Nope, as with the A64's the chips are unlocked down only, so no 12+ options on the 730.
Check how bad the vdroop is on your board, some chips dont like over ~ 1.55v so running 1.6 should put you about that.
N-lite the install, remove everything thats not needed. Kill services, high priority, ricky tweak. Thats about all off the top of my head, others will know of more for sure. Running order can make a difference as well, DL, LL, CH, DH, LH, N and re-run CL seems to work best. Everyone has their own favoured order though :)Quote:

I'm running on stock air with the AS5 thermal paste. I'm using Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2 1GB kit with OZ booster. My power supply is COOLMAX CR-450B 450W
My settings are 11 X 225 Mhz. My RAM setting is 2-2-2-6 at 1:1 mem divider. I'm using the latest 1009 beta 003 bios. My VCore is set at 1.6V in bios and OZ booster is set to 3.3 V. AGP locked at 66 and stock 1.5V
My temperature at idle is around 45C and running Prime95 its goes up to 65C. Is my temperature too high?
I try lowering my RAM settings but that didn't help. Can someone help me?
Temps are a little on the high side, will it run 2.4 at any lower voltage than that?
Would be worth getting some better cooling on there if you cant drop the volts tbh, see Charlies thread below for more info on that.
It could be that the cpu is just maxing, the 533's seem to do this as the 400's do with FSB.
Dropping temps should allow you to OC a little further though (unless the cpu IS maxed) 1.6v is a LOT for *only* 2.4ghz though.
I can use lower voltage to run at 2.4 but I'm trying to get to about 2.7-2.8 on air.
I have the Zalman 7700cm that I haven't installed yet. I'm waiting for Charlie to post some pics on mounting P4 cooler onto CT-479.
I'll try lowering my voltage and see if i can get higher clock.
Is it better if I go to 12 mulipler or stay at 11. The reason i went to 11 was to get better FSB since I can't seem to pass 2.5Ghz
If you cant pass 2.5, with the higher multi and those volts, then chances are the cpu might be maxed. Better cooling might well help you out, but dont be surprised if it doesnt. This 730 is maxed at 2.57ghz stable, tho burning in does seem to be helping a little, can pass pi at 2.61ghz now, where 2.57 was the max possible before.
Shouldn't the 750 be better at OCing than the 730?
What is your CPU temperature?
Its all luck of the draw. Just because a CPU has a higher stock, doesnt mean it will clock further.. Look at the 3000 venices for example, most hit 2.6ghz, with the good ones hitting 3+.
CPU temp is 49 deg, thats after 3 hours of prime, with cpu fan at 80% on the stock cooler with 1.35vcore (201*12)
I too seem to be hitting a brick wall at 2.5ghz :(
http://www.turbanator.nildram.co.uk/dothan/28s.JPG
Does 2.5ghz ON STOCK VOLTS! But trying to up past this to 2.6 etc, taking the volts upto as high as 5.75 just freezes the computer :(
My memory isn't the one maxing out cause I can drop the multi down to 10 and do 250mhz... so it's the chip which won't do a higher clock speed.
Oh well, it is the first day of me having setup this rig, my memory isn't burnt in and hell, the systems only just been setup to be honest. I'll continue to tinker :D
I haven't really play around with the voltage after installing the new bios.
I'll try lowering the voltage to lower the temperature. I'll set the multiplier at 12 and see how high I can go.
okay... time for some more indepth testing *installs the 3dmarks* >:E
ps: 3 in the morning here... got work at 9... de dums... :p
pps: what's really annoying is that I set myself a goal of a sub-27s superpi... unless I figure something clever out with this gear, doesn't look like I'lll hit it :( Might be able to achieve it by lowering the multi and upping the fsb to increase system bandwidth... depends how far off 27 i actually am in that last 1s.
results: 2001 => 28,656
2003 => 13,792

had to boost my vcore from default to complete a run of 2005...
I'm new to the forum, I only want to tell everyone thanks for useful infos.
Mostly the new beta bios for the PC800-E that allowed me to make futher experiments without U wiring.
I already had a sony Vaio fs115S (FS550 in USA) where I obtained:
Dothan 1.7 with fsb forced to 533 = 2266mhz rock stale at stock voltage, mybe a little hot on heavy load but undervolted better.
So I suddenly bought a PC800-E and the CT-479 to make a silent server for my home as I had the old notebook's 1733 Dothan.
At first tryes, not bette than 2400 mhz, because of wrong multipiers in MB.
But, with the new bios
a wopping 2612 mhz (201x13) at first try and at 1,41v, max temp under load 52c with stock asus heatsink.
Now all night long running ok.
I think Intel has some surprises on dothan architecture, because it's too easy to overclock that it's retained underpowered I think.
Again thanks to All
Olaf63

Primed overnight (still running now fingers crossed) 2.4ghz (201*12) on 1.35v set in bios + vdroop. Windows is reading 1.31, is there a read point for vcore anywhere to check what the actual voltage is?
