Sounds like DFI Expert / Striker Extreme all over again. I'll go the DQ6 and play with that. Thanks Mate.

for other ep45ers this may or may not work since the mobos are not quite the same
use this as an indication.. if this doesnt work for you..
fiddle around with higher vcore for ex: ~1.5 @ 4.5ghz.. ~1.6 @ 4.8ghz.. your q9650 may need more/less vtt
exactly what voltages work on your setup is for you guys to find out
note1: all voltages set @ bios
note2: no gtl adjusting
note3: cpu/pcie clock drive @ 1000mV.. cpu/mch skew @ 0ps: anything other than 0ps = no system boot
xguntherc this is for you m8.. went back through the pages to get you these so you have a better idea what vcore/vtt it takes

Could people post their cpu GTL ref's here please?
I know all cpu's may be different, but it may help others as a starting point.
Thanks
Appreciate you posting this again, i did last night try my voltages also as your previously posted easytune screenshot but no luck. I tried many other variations as well including the screenshot i posted above which is similar to Hicookies settings.
I was only trying 500x8 instead of 500x9 (as that wouldnt even boot) so my vcore shouldnt need to be above 1.3v.
I will however try your cpu/pcie clock drive settings tonight and hopefully they will be the key.

goodness gracious a long last.. *sigh* well thanks to systemviper my presence here has come to an end :)
may your oc always be merry
goodbye guys :)
:clap:crazy fast!
ok, ive just tried that and with your all easytune settings and it wont boot at 500x9. It boots at 500x8 just about but as usual it is very unstable and BSOD under any app.
Yes, i saw, at least now i know its not the motherboard. I think Systemviper is going to post his settings later but i really dont think it will make any difference with my particular chip. Three motherboards on and I think it has a FSB wall :( Shame as it needs so little vcore, but im sure il pass it on to someone who wants a low power 4ghz and no more :) and ill either try another or stick with my E8600.
Thanks for your help, but i know when im beaten with this one
Nice work there Viper.
I think I'm simply getting stopped by my PSU.. and thats a shame.
Also Napalm. thank you much for all the info. I'll leave ya be for now. You just seem to have it all figured out there. thats all.. Thanks for all those screeny's.
and your right. I'm just going to try and use more fsb/vtt and less vcore. thats what I'll do. for now I'm at 1.35v vtt, but I'm going to give it 1.4 or more and see how it goes.
thanks!
I can get a 2 week old.. slightly used PCP&C Silencer Quad 750w PSU for $100.00
I think I'll just do that. Sounds like a good deal. and I've heard they make some of the BEST PSU's around. this is also what Napalm suggested.
Just happened to go on sale from a friend on another forum yesterday. So I'll try and trade him for it. or I'll just buy it if I have to.
Does it have adjustable pots? do you know. or does it just run high anyways and will perform much better for me. Only thing I'm worried about is the small 80mm fan on the back. I don't want it to get loud. but it's called the silencer. so it shouldn't be to bad. I hope not at least!
I took the wrong sreenshot, i will boot later today and get the settings, but i warn you, it's high...
I think i set vcore at 1.6 and mch at 1.82, but with that sweet xig direct touch, and a little breeze it kept temps good.
I bet it is High..
thats ok. Lets see it.
So to everyone thats been following this thread. or any of my questions and what not. I have "ONE" More. LOL
So basically I've sold a few things online, and some G11 keyboards and MX-518 Mice. (Have 3 of each left). and I now have an extra $100 in my paypal account. So my question is what should I do FIRST:
Should I get a new PSU. Probably the PCP&C 750w Silencer for $100 Shipped. OR Should I get some Water Cooling. like a Apogee GTZ ,or Fuzion v1,2 and a MCR220, 320 and some other things.
or would a water-cooling pump just be even more stress on my current PSU. and just be even worse.. I'm stuck between the two choices. lol
thanks. Input would be greatly appreciated.
edit* Also I got the Everest Ultimate edition. and I started it up to check some of my voltage settings and what not. To double check to see if HWMonitor was right or not. and everest shows my PSU 12v rail at 11.93.. not 7.36 like Monitor did.. lol. So that makes me feel a little better. But still not sure if thats a good enough PSU. I doubt it. Here's a screeny of me at 4.0 ghz with every big of info possible from everest. and all the voltages and what not.
http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/5...estinforl4.jpg
This is where I am for now. Still workin on it
I bet that HWMONITOR reported your +12V all way wrong back then when you used it. Still mine HX520 keeps 12.10V on wich i find pretty nice, whitout modding ;)
by default the cpu/pcie clock drive is at 700mv should i increase to 1000mv?, i cannot get 475 to be stable, which was stable on my MIIF, any pointers??? i am rock solid at 450fsb with 1.3v vtt, 1.3v mch
carepolice.. see you have nothing more, or less in your case than me that would make it seem otherwise.. It just doesn't make sense.. I know some are better than otehrs. even when the same model though.
I have 1 HD. 6 case fans... one DVD Drive bay.. i don't know.. the 260. uses less power than your 4870.
Well the PCP&C 750o silencer Quad is over 200. but newegg has it for $144.99 and until the 29th has a 15% off so it's a total of $123.99 and has FREE shipping for 3 day. I'm pretty sure I'll do that. instead of paying $100 for a used one from a guy runnin SLI 280's. he's probably pushed that thing a lot. 20 bucks more to get a brand new one is worth it to me.
Unless anyone has any other PSU suggestions under $145.. yet will be good enough for SLI 260's let me know. otherwise I'll probably snag that. and then it will be more efficient and push my system better.
also GAR.. I don't know much about the clock drive. but I've seen the number 1000mv many times.. also 4.0 Ghz on the Q9450 is a big push... you just might need a lot of volts.. but your board should be able to handle that so I don't know. and who's the girl in ur avatar.. looks like a girl I know from Utah!
xguntherc check you nv control panel under the part where it shows what you cpu, mobo ram and gpus are clock @ check theres not a rule starting with windows this might be holding you back it was me just found that out last night. this kept killing my vcore when playing game turned it off and everything is working how it should again i thought its was the vdroop mod but turns out this was holding me back. might be the case just check it.
Hey Guys,
Finally finished testing my project 'flat black & blue' this weekend and got a chance to see the Q9650 in action, just 10 passes on Linpack before I start to burn-in the cpu:

After the burn-in I'll push this baby!
:clap::clap:Sick rig Jorell, r u my futter?:rofl::ROTF:
davidoff... Can you explain this a little better. In my NV Control Panel there isn't anything about the Mobo Ram and clocks.. so I'm not sure what your talking about.
explain more.. Also I've been lazy and have not updated my drivers so I'm currently on 177.92. I've yet to get to 178. or the 180's.. laybe what your talking about is only on those. Explain more please.
it was a part in the nv dont know what it came with maybe the mb latest drivers or nv software tools but dont worry until you update it then you will need to check.
No.. I don't even know what your talking about.. No where in the Nvidia control panel is there info about CPU, Mobo, RAM and clocks.. it's simply for graphics and settings and monitor settings.. So I'm not sure where to go and check what you said above.
Also I'm probably going to get the PCP&C 750w Silencer Quad today. It's on sale for $114.00 at newegg.com with 15% off.. then after that I get a $25.00 MIR. thats a great deal for that PSU.
I'm hoping it will help my system be more stable.
Meh. I just manned up and ordered it.. It will be here Friday.
Also your right napalm. I just did a calculator. and it recommended a 700w PSU. as before when i did it I didn't include the OC on GFX or CPU. so I think this will overall be much better, stable, and more powerful for me. I'll let you all know how it goes. and it's rated at 83% not 80.. thats even better.
Thanks for the idea Napalm! I'll owe you when. not if. but WHEN i hit 4.4 Ghz or more. :)

Nice work there..
Sweetness. so your vcore and vtt are both at 1.44.. have you been increasing those at about the same rate??
I love Q9650 running 500FSB.
I think is a good place to ask, as far as Q9550 is pretty the same. What are the safe voltages for 24/7 under water (Fuzion v2)? Especially for the CPU PLL and FSB Termination voltage. For now, 465x8.5: 1.4125 vcore, 1.66v PLL, 1.36v FSBt and GTLREF 59x. I'm with P5E Deluxe.
Agree'd Jor.
and spoof.. the Q9550 is very similar to the Q9650.. just a .5 multi more basically. lol. and ALL are E0's. Anyways the recommended safe voltage is 1.3625v max for a 24/7 usage.
I'm not sure but I wouldn't think you'd need that much to get stable at 3.9 Ghz.. you should be able to do it under 1.4 volts I'd think. Keep tweaking those settings. Add more fsb/vtt maybe 1.4
Nice clock there.
Unfortunatley that board did nothing for my target of getting 4500Mhz with my Q9650. Same batch as yours. Wouldnt even post @ 500*9.
It may have been my vcore as i never pushed it quite that high, i didnt think it would need it. If i does need that much voltage I dont feel too bad as Im not sure i would have been happy running that 24/7,
Just landed a new QX9650 C1 for $250 which has eased my pain a little.
Nice.
Hey Jor3. what PSU are you running to get some great outputs there?? and did you tweak anything on it.?
Also how well would a ASUS P5Q push my Q9650. or even a Q6700?? I might be buying one used to throw my old Q6700 into for a folding rig. but maybe I'll use my 750i in the folder and run the P5Q for myself. lol I don't know. Just wondering. is anyone running that Mobo? it's not the Pro or anything though.
hi I notice you where looking to buy a p5q dlx I'm selling mine of your intrested I live in the I'm brought of from scan about 3 months ago so still got 9 months warrty pm me if it's any intrest to any off you guys
How much.. I got offered from someone else a little while ago.
and if I remember right isn't that what Napalm was using at first?... never mind. it was the p45
do you guys think the next Q9650 batches will oc as good as current ones ? and will the price go down after i7 launch ? prices seem to be increasing here in europe right now but most due to euro dropping vs dollar I guess..
If I remember right there is a stop production order on the Q9450 Q9550 Q9650 QX9770 & QX9650
just before the i7's hit the market
Intel don't wanna compete with it's self
SOO look to see the prices rise on these CPU's when they stop making them
the replacement CPU's will be the 8xxx line of CPU's directed at the OME makers
& they will also keep making the Q6600 as it sells well & production costs NOW are way low for that CPU as it's pure profit almost
Well the Q9xxx series are almost just a cheap to make right. since they can make more with a single wafer? you'd think the profit margins would be similar on these...
I have also heard the prices will rise when i7 drops. so I'd get one now before it's to late. as they are great chips.
ya if they keep these around they will have some very very strong competition with themselves.. So they are getting rid of them.
I'd get one.. I'm glad I did.
thanks guys, think I'll skip the i7 band wagon for now, the only shop I'm seeing around here only got 1 Q9650 left for sale and the shop owner said the next ones he order will cost at least 60€ more due to the dollar difference..
Hey Big hows your burn-in going?
I'm leaving mine with auto voltage (1.21v) and running Linpack overnight, then some idle time, then I raise the fsb to 4005Mhz or 4045Mhz without raising voltages and run some Prime and Linpack again.
Am I doing it right? For how long should I do this?
Here are my new toys..
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/7200/1000775dm9.jpg
and does a burn-In increase overclockability in the chip??
3 or 4 days is about all you need with that burn in . mine is ready for O/C'in as i've been doing the same but just not pushing the FSB ( haven't had the time to mess with it ) but am gonna push the new Q9650 this weekend on my new EP45-UD3P MoBo ... will report back
well I ran mine on normal everyday functions for the first about 30 hours I had it.. then went to 3.8 Ghz for 2 days.. then went to 4.0 ghz, and 4.2 ghz. and now I've ran at 4.0 Ghz since..
Was that enough of a burn in? the entire time never going over 62c
I've never "burned in a CPU". I've never had any CPU issues either. Lost plenty of ram and mobos, just no CPU's.
My opinion on the q9560 EOL is that its not gonna be as soon as yall think. There is tooo many LGA775 systems out there to quit support immediatley. Not to mention the warehouses full of high end 775 motherboards. Heck new 775 boards are being introduced almost daily. There is probably more high end 775 machines out there than all the other sockets combined. I'd say they'll be available for at least a year or 2. Again, Just my opinion. Newegg is still selling one of the highest end 478 cpus, and 478 is oooold.
they still will Support it , just not gonna make them anymore . like i said they are bringing out the 8xxx line in 775 sockets for the masses..
For enthusaist like us... Intel & the MoBo MFG'ers wants us to buy the newest hardware & be their test bunnies for them .. it's all marketing why sell such a great CPU that makes yer new product look bad !
I would hate to have waited to buy one & then to find out that the CPU is not for sale anymore
.. then BE forced into buying a i7 system while reading posts like == Napalme is getting the ghz to the sky & beyond
remember Intel has No One to compete with but it's self & the forcast for Intels profits is just Today reported to be DOWN below expectations & the Intel stock is also down (as is everyone else)...I just Read that in the San Jose Mercury Newspaper bussiness section this afternoon.. but believe what u will
Yeah burn-in does not take long , it's like a new car u don't take it from the sales lot to the drag strip in the 1st hour u get it ..
I work hard for my cash soo i err on the side of caution when paying this much for hardware
.. as it's your hardware do as u like it with what you have ...but i just do what i do
I could be wrong but as said caution is better than sorry to me !
I found this on gamespot dated september 5th. I found this same article at many sites. Looks like No EOL planned as of yet. The QX6850 and QX9770 are to be replaced by i7. Very minimum 3rd quarter 2009 if this info is reliable. Remember, not counting the way overpriced Xtreme chips, the Q9650 is intels best LGA775 CPU. I just cant see them killin it so fast. They will sell plenty of them, and make plenty of money doin it. Again, i'm no genius, this is just my opinion.
Yeah i forgot where i read what i posted , it was in the XS news section & i think it was after that date of the 5th .. Hmm have to look for it when i got more time .. anyway I got mine & am very happy with them
not trying to say i'm right or anything ....... just passing on what i had read ...
Well after having a chance to try a few boards with a QX9650 it's time to report. I've followed the pages in this Forum with interest as it covers one chip with different boards. Most interestingly, are the overclocks achieved by NapalmV5 and one or two others using predominantly Gigabyte DQ6 and EP45t Extreme Boards. As posted in other forums within Xtreme Systems, my views are not based on pure overclock numbers but the way that those overclocks translate into the speed and performance of Windows and the Application/Games within. So let's start.........
All results are with the components in my sig except when stated after the board's title. CPU speeds are kept to a reasonable constant to show the difference in boards' performance and not that particular boards overclocking ability. I've tried 3 different ( yes three !! ) QX9650's in all these boards and they all have a maximum overclock of between 4.2 and 4.4 GHz.
1. Striker 2 Formula ( OCZ ReaperX 4 gig memory & GTX280 SLi)
FSB limit of around 450. I've had four of these boards over a period and apart from the usual slight difference from one to the other, they all perform much the same. Very fast in Windows and games but limited in FSB speeds. As with all nVidia chipsets, they offer very good to excellent memory performance especially in linked and sync mode.
2. Striker 2 Extreme ( GTX 280SLi )
FSB limit of 475 with all my chips. Faster in windows than the Formula mainly due to the memory bandwidth with DDR3 and higher FSB and great to work with as everything is extremely responsive. problem with this board is that it has an awful habit of randomly rebooting or blue screening even though the overclocks are completely Prime Stable. There is another thread that address's this issue so I won't take it any further.
3. Gigabyte EP45t Extreme (Crossfire 4870X2)
With all the hype in these pages on how well the DQ6 clocks and how guys like NapalmV5 have got this board to perform, my experience has been dismal. Sure I can get the FSB to 510 @ 4.33 GHz out of my best chip Prime Stable, but the memory performance on this board is dreadful. Sure there may be a compatibility issue here with the OCZ ram I use, however the OCZ gear, from what I have experienced over the years, has the least effect on compatibility out of all the other dimms I have used. The only way to get this board to clock is to back right off the memory which is a stupid thing to do as the memory interface is what slows things down in Windows and in performance generally. What is the use of having a screamingly fast overclock when it gets bottlenecked at the memory stage ??? This showed itself within Windows where, even at 4.3 GHZ it was slower (physically) that either of the Striker's running at around 3.5GHz. if that wasn't enough, I have always used 3 RAID 0 sets. One set each using OCZ Core SS drives for OS and Data (46 gig each) and a third set for ISO images of games and apps etc which has higher storage. When you use this board with any large graphics card like the 4870, 2 of the SATA ports are rendered useless as the the card completely stops the use of these ports due to the way the SATA headers are configured on the board. Even using SATA cables with right angle plugs, it still does not allow all SATA ports to be used. Fair enough, one might say, as most people don't have a need for 6 SATA ports. Well if you want to use an IDE channel with Crossfire using the same 4870 cards, you cannot access the IDE port as the bottom card completely covers the IDE header on the board. I contacted Gigabyte Australia via my distributor and with a sympathetic ear, they informed me that this issue has been addressed in their upcoming i7 motherboards. Good to see that they have seen to this but that should have been done in the developent stages of this board. All in all, apart from the great overclocks, this board, generally, is a dud if you want more than the highest CPU overclock.
I know that some will get a synergy with this board and their own chip/ram combos so please take these comments in an open minded way.
4. Rampage Extreme
Only picked up this board yesterday. straight out of the box and especially with Vista 64bit, It is a screamer:up: Without overclocking anything, it is noticeably faster than Striker 2 Formula, marginally faster than the Striker 2 Extreme and bucket loads faster than the EP45t Extreme. I could almost be happy leaving this thing at stock speeds but as we are all Xtreme to certain degrees, overclocking is something that just has to be done. Based on my partners Rampage Formula which runs a QX9650 at 4Gig on air and will not let me play with it any more because she wants a machine that is hassle free and completely devoid of the chance of falling over, I cannot see any issues of the getting the Rampage Extreme over 500 FSB, but that will be confirmed over the next week.
In a post earlier in this thread, I remarked to NapalmV5 that I indeed may "Napalm the ASUS boards" and move on. Well that is certainly not going to happen at this point and especially not to a EP45t Extreme. As I custom build and sell top fight machines commercially see here I cannot, in all honesty, recommend a motherboard that falls short of reference performance. That is why I cannot recommend the Giga board based on my overall findings.
Rampage OC's to follow........
*** I always load any new board up with a new virgin install of Windows and not via an Image, so there is no change of OS / Driver contamination.
Nice test there but obviously you cant compare chipset of different classes like nvidia , x48 and p45 in term of memory performance because nvidia and the X48 surely kick p45 ass.
If you really want to compare test them in the same class like DFI UT P45, P5Q Deluxe, P5Q3, Maximus 2.
I tried P5Q Deluxe and the memory performance is obviously nearly the same with EP45-UD3P surely because of the same chipset.
BUT in the of reaching >500fsb easy peasy the EP45 is the winner because I cant do that with the P5Q Deluxe at least with my quad.
Agreed !
The primary idea here is to give a little insight into a few different boards for those who have requested info on which board/platform to buy for their next upgrade and to point out some obvious shortcomings which don't often get mentioned. If it comes down to FSB on it's own then yes the DQ6 and EP45t Extreme may be the board of choice, however there is a lot more to a fast motherboard than purely FSB capability.
