Certainly not a "newbie" as far as overclocking goes. Believe me, I was doing volt mods back at the GF3 era and ran into this same problem with a Morpheus GF3 little gem that after modding got me a core of 370 with Peltier/water cooling.
The last few cards I've used though, the volt mods yielded very little gains if any on both a 6800 Ultra and an older 5900 Ultra. Just pleasantly suprised with results of this mod. :D
My GPU temp did go up from 26C to 31C with this mod on my watercooling setup so 1.55 might be thermally tough for air cooling solutions.
My "Work" is pretty raw as I already had it mounted in the case with waterblock setup so I did the mod in place on the floor with my headset magnifiers. I simply did the 508 & 511 wrapped around to the perpendicular pins as other photos show but instead of the ground shown in the illustrations I simply attached it to one of the PCI-E connector grounds on the back of the board and then hotglued down the wires for safety:)
If someone really wants a pic let me know. I'll have to install frontpage and upload/edit my homepage.
Also, how can I get 1.7V on 7900GT?
I saw:
7900GTX 1.7V Vgpu.
Done by: LardArse
Can it be applied to 7900GT?
U need to replace a resistor and do the pencil modes to get 1.7VQuote:

So, just replace 5k to 50k and do D508, D511 vmods? Correct? I'm just trying to get clear information for our FAQ about 7900GT/GTX on www.overclockers.ru.Quote:

post nr. #2 will get all the answers to ur questions :)
Got it. :toast:Quote:

Before I apply conductive paint, I would like to know if someone knows about NV Silencer 5 Rev.3 on a 7900GT, and if it needs some mod too....
I would like to buy it because of its price and the "push the hot air outside" concept....
Just did the silver paint mod to my 7900GT 1.4v = 660 core
easiest mod :)
thanx for everyone's hard work.
You going to try the 1.55 mod Dazog? Its just one more line of conductive paint.
As soon as the eVGA 653 that nn_step sent me arrives I will take the card down to my local shop and have a hands-on comparison between the various NV models to see wich one fits the best.Quote:

If you hold out until the beginning of next week, then I could give you a better advice.
Thx for the easy mods guys... as soon as I receive my Gainward Bliss 7900GT, I'll do the 1.55v conductive ink/paint mod.
Btw, do you think it is possible to find a new 1.6v or 1.7v (or even higher) conductive ink/paint mod?
would 1.55v be too much for the standard air cooler ?
Original cooler can hardly take 1.4V so yes 1.55V would be to much for stock cooling;)
I did the 1.4V mod last night. I get 600Mhz GPU and 1790Mhz memory artifacts free.
The problem is that the temperature is 73 celsius load, even though I replaced the stock cooling solution with my old NV Silencer 5 rev2.
I think I'm going to re-apply the thermal paste and maybe flash the card with a modded BIOS with higher Fan speed for 3D mode.
I did the 1.4v mod this afteroon, running it at 640/1604 for now with no artifacts. Thanks to all the research that went into this thread, great work guys :)
Heres a pic of my mod, I know its quite untidy but I dont care, it worked :)

Low 40c's at full load (Maze 4) thanks again guys.
:D Awesome work on finding the easy mods guys!
So whats the "easy mod for vmem" :-x
For me it's the pencil mod from VR-Zone.Quote:

Great modding guys. I just did the "easy 1.4V mod". I added a fan to the stock "standard" cooler and the core went to 630mhz without artifacting. But it was running at 80°C load, so I'll better look for some better cooling.
Greetings, the Wacko from Belgium. (first owner of a 7900GT in Belgium... I had it the 9th march :) )
Just be sure not to be the first in Belgium to kill it :DQuote:
