Setting up Rosetta@home

Hey guys this is my first post :woot: and well I've been wondering about something like this before and was like why not. Now I downloaded the client and registered at boinc. I tried to attach to the project but it always fails to connect. Now I am on 56k but I thought it would work. Slow maybe but shouldn't it work? I've got no firewalls that I know of... and I'm using AOL :( I know it sucks... a lot and I hate it too but atm that's what I'm able to use as dsl isn't in the area and cable is waay to expensive. Any idea on how to get it working? It says network communication failure btw.

I also ran the cpu benchmark and compared to you guys my p4's score is tiny :( 1489 whetstone 1845 drystone that about right?

it's stock 3.0 and oc'd to 3.5 but that's the best I can get stable at stock. The mobo a P4S800-MX doesn't have the option for voltage increases so it's as far as I can go atm anybody know how to mod it? jw

Praxis, read the Optimization sticky, and you should see benches more like this

3175 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU

hmm would it have been down yesterday too? lol I set it up yesterday and it didn't work either. I bet it has to do with this Piece of :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana: isp that is aol lol. I really hate them :mad: lol

I actually think it was last night come to think of it:) I only have 10 WU's left so I hope it comes up so I can dl some more.

I wonder if AOL will let Boinc communicate? Most any other dial up ISP is better than AOL. You might want to check around.. MSN maybe?

edit- project was down earlier today, but it's been back up for a while. My rig has uploaded and downloaded wu's since then.

When I surf the web I see my internet connection jump up however whenever I don't touch it at all it stays at 0.00% and that's what happens when I try to use rosetta

anybody have aol and know how to fix this?

firewall?

anybody that can help with AOL here?

I'm thinking it's some type of AOL firewall crap not letting it go through...

proxy setting?

Any advice on how to find out proxy settings? And there is an AOL Firewall but I'm almost 100% sure it's not downloaded. I think it actually has to do with this parental control crap. I used to never have it... but then my parents one day decided that I needed it:nono: now I'm on the so called "mature teen" part of it but it used to block google as well... so now I'm thinking this might be blocking it... but I'm not sure. I'll check on my dad's account later tonight and update

:woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: it works!!! well anyway it seems that the overly restrictive filter blocks many things... like rosetta but also pretty much anything that has to connect to the internet :( lol. My email notifier works again and I can play GW too :D

ATM only my main desktop is taking part ( xp 2600+ ). Dual P3 800, amd mobile 2400+ and maybe even the quad 3,2 ghz xeon will follow ;)

OK, I'm new to BOINC. I have the client installed on a few machines and it's working great. I see a lot of posts about optimization but am not sure what that is exactly. I want to make sure I'm getting the most bang for my buck, so someone please clue me in. Thanks.
