I got finally installed my wc block, so here it is in pics:
Naked card
Naked core
And finally installed
Temps are now 41c idle and 47c while gaming (from ATITool) and clocks are now at the stock clocks.

Why not? Works just fine though it's Alu-block. And it wasn't so expensive ;)Quote:

I actually decided to stretch my luck tonight. I tried 3 different XT bioses. One original, one the PE version, and on XT 256mb version - non of them worked on my XL. All booted fine into windows. The clocks were set to 595/695 or somewhere close to that. It was using the VGA driver as windows could not recognize the card. As with before, a reinstall of the ATI drivers did not do anything.Quote:

thanks again for your effort. If there really is no way this will at least help people to not waste their time trying the same. Hopefully there will be a way however and someone will figure it out.
No need to thank - it was worth the shot. Maybe I was hoping for a miracle or something. Still love my XL though - it is a pretty amazing card with very simple overclocks. My stable 3d05 score is around 9700 - not bad for a $340 investment.Quote:

Very nice score on your XL however as the max I ever got on my XT was 9664 at stock OC speeds of 695/792. My cpu is severely limiting though at 2.48ghz max, 225 on the fsb and only 512k cache.
Yes, that 3200+ would definitly limit your score. My OC score when pushing my X2 to 2700 nets me 10088 which is my posted 3d05 score. That was with the 5.11's. I am getting about 200 more with the 5.12's.
I know what you mean about the card having issues - at least that was my first impression overclocking. It is definitly finicky and requires a little getting used to. No longer that days of quickly finding the upper limits. Having the dynamic ability to change voltages on the fly for both memory and core add a whole new level of complexity. In reality, I can get a good bench at one speed and the next day I cannot hit it! But that is OK, still fun to play with. My stable clock works great. I was considered the XT since I have to build another system for a family member. My LCD only does 1280 so I figured it would be a waste of investment for me.
yea my current LCD only does 1280 as well but I figured I would be able to at least have higher aa/af due to the lower resolution. I am seriously looking into the Dell 2005FPW for after christmas for myself however. A nice widscreen 1650 x 1080 would be sweet for games. One thing I never really looked into however is how much a performance hit you take when going up in resolutions. I never had higher than 1280 before so am unsure if I will need to turn down my aa/af and in game settings to have a better running game at the higher resolutions. I guess we will see when I get the new monitor as perhaps higher resolutions dont impact performance as much as other settings.
The issues I had with my XL were weird. It would run great in most things but some terrible. No artifacts in any of the 3dmarks or aquamark or quake 4 etc but fear had these little black flashing squares on the screen. 3Dmark01 would also crash to desktop. I got annoyed and sold it off realizing that a stock XT is better than most peoples highest oc out of the XL. The XT would be guaranteed at those speeds as well with a much stronger core, not to mention a non failed core like all the first batch of XL's were.
As for my 3200+ believe me, I really do want a new cpu however I am afraid to take apart my system to put a new one in. I had such a nightmare of a build with this DFI board that now that it's running fine I'm leaving it as I have a strong feeling fooling around will have it not boot like when I first got it. It is such a hassle to take apart my case it isn't even funny. A nice opteron 175 would be a nice upgrade though and compliment everything else quite well as storage, sound, dvd burner and video card are all pretty top of the line. My cpu is definately the weakest thing in my system.

Works great here so far!! I dropped to 500 / 500 before the flash.
Ok here are my findings - I was using CCC at 690 / 780. I could not run the memory at 800 stock volts or it would artifact. I was also breaking 10,000 in 3dmark 05, I believe 10,090. - (Nope 9803 with stock bios 690 / 780 - sorry)
So I flashed to this bios, 690 / 800 is stable, 3dmark 05 dropped to 9942 and I can run 800 memory no problem. I believe this bios slackened the memory timings a bit to make it more stable. Thats fine but I dropped slight performance at the higher oc. I prefer this however since it's not a software OC and the fan seems to spin faster than when OC'd in the CCC.
I gained 1 FPS Avg. in Fear however!!
BTW performance in gaming is outstanding!! :)

ok did flash think i need to reinstall drivers ati CCC wont let me into the overdirve part cant use CCC atm. seem to have lost points in 05 will try to re-install drivers then try again...
peace perc,
Riva tuner reports 1.4 core voltage at load with the stock BIOS and 1.48 core voltage with the X1800XT PE bios.
temps are like 3 -5 deg higher. from 68 load to about 71 using the XT PE one.
how did you get rivatuner to work with your x1800xt. it won't work for me. or is there a new beta version.Quote:

*edit* also ati tool seems to not reconise the new bios clock setting its still showing my clocks at 594/690 but all other progs including ati's CCC reconise the new clock setting? anyone else notice this?
*edit*edit* flashed back to org bios ran 05 with same oc to compare scores... have a peek and i think that youl see that the scores are pretty much the same. i think this bios is good for the people who had problems getting 700/800 but my card doesnt have these problems so im going to stick with my stock bios for now.
thx perc,
Nope :DQuote:

They are all identical. Right now most cards are being manufactured by Sapphire and just rebranded with different stickers in different boxes. They are all following referenc design and all have same stock cooler design too. The XT core is very strong and 95% can do the same as the next guy if volts and cooling are put properly in place. I have not heard of 1 XT card not fully taking the OC bios happily.
My memory could not do any higher than 780 from CCC with the original bios so Im happy with the new bios.
I flashed back to make sure and it was corrtup within seconds using the original bios and memory at 790.
Im happy at 700 / 800 now, I dont see the need for a few more tenths of a frame.
ya i hear ya, no need to overclock higher than stock OC speeds as it is already plenty fast, even with my cpu being heavily limiting. With a faster cpu the card would be even better at same clocks. As soon as a better cooler comes out I may try higher just to see what I can do as long as temps are reasonable as right now they are quite hot for me.
Flashed sapphire.
775/800 seems maxed out using waterblock mcw50.
760 for daily use.
Low on my cpu though only max 2460mhz for stability.
3800+ x2.
3dmark05 9704p.
3dmark03 17036p.
3dmark01 29868p.
Limited by cpu though.
Good enough however for me at 24/7 use :D
it's better use the additive for water if you use 1A- cooling... It's not a Low profile watercooler, it's use micro - canal in the waterblock.. if you don't careful with this, your cooling-perf can be reduce dramatically. or use Ethanol + anti freeze as liquid.Quote:
