my XL from actbuy came in today. So far im at 600/1400, and i still think i can squeeze some more out of it. im gonna go eat and then play with it some more. I wish I had the beta ati tool cause CCC says my temps are 0'C ????

I like how ATI has released a monster of a GPU that can't be satisfied by the fastest memory available in the market.

Thats pretty crazy though. Definitely a huge milestone getting that 1000Mhz clock on a GPU.

So what causes these black screens? To me they don't sound like something that should be happening. At first it was mentioned it was only with the driverheaven tool but then another user states it happens without the tool or any overclocking. The other post from last week or so said they got this when overclocking with both CCC and beta ATI Tool. Weird and unsettling actually.

Thanks guys, that zalman might have to be ordered once I determine how far this card can go :)

Gunit, which tool are you using to obtain 600/1400 ?
The one listed earlier on in this thread only goes up to 520 in 3d for me, then resets ?
It gets funky with clock freq displays too, initially showing some ridiculous number :(
And yes, it turns the screen black for me too.

I e-mailed the ati tool author to ask about trying the beta, but no reply as yet.

and im not convinced the zalman vf700 will best the stock ATI cooler on the X1800, maybe noise wise but I doubt it will cool better. the XL has a beefy copper heat pipe type cooler, its realy amazing to be honest.

Hmm we shall see .. its ordered ;)
TBH the HS might be good, but the stock fan is a bit feeble IMO .. and noisy ... the Zalman can push a lot more air and be less noisy.
The other option is to take the plate off and fix a couple of quiet 80mm fans to the stock cooler ... I can't be doing with noisy fans :p

I have vf700Alcu. It cools about 6-8c better than the stock cooler idle and load. I think the all copper vf700cu is the way to go for a few more degrees c cooler.

oh ok, did u use AS5? are the ramsinks even worth putting on? if so, did u use the tape or thermal adhesive?

I don't know how Wizzard doles out the beta, but if I authored a prog that can manipulate voltages I'd make very, very sure the bugs were ironed out before handing it to the general public. Without knowing how or why Wiz makes his decisions, I wouldn't knock him.

i made that comment before the tool at driverheaven came out, could care less about wizzards tool now.

I agree, if he released it publicly and it was buggy he would get people complaining left right and centre, its his perogative.
He did mention he would give it to those that mailed him, so I did, but if he isnt happy to send me it then fair enough :)

The driverheaven one seem to go up to 520 and drop back down again for me once I click "more please" :confused:

well all of the peeps here who have it seem to be able to oc and change voltages just fine! But enough about that.

mine gets buggy at 648 and up, so im stuck at 628 for now.

I have a HIS card, though I dont think it makes any odds right now ... all BBA I believe ... mine even says Built by ATi in CCC as vendor.

I know I sound like a broken record as I say this in every X1800 thread but im mainly concerned with the Sapphire cards as that is all I can get locally. One bloke is stating he can barely get is core up to 520 with black screens. That worries me. I would die if I had a core like that.

is it cause if the difference in stock voltage between the xl and xt? :) 1.0v vs 1.3v

I thought mine was a sapphire, but it ended up being a BBA with just the Sapphire Alien sticker sloppily slapped on. i bought mine from actbuy.com. will do 628core and 1550 mem.

that's what almost all sapphire cards are lol bba's with stickers on em :)

Yea, Sapphire is one of the mail builders for ATI as ATI themselves simply don't have the resources to manufacture all their cards on their own. I suppose I shouldn't worry to much as I just answered the question to my worry above lol.

As for that guy not being able to get higher due to voltage he said he has used the driverheaven tool and it didn't help him.
