actually they sell for more than that.. but is mostly because of R&D costs have to be recouped...
lol. a bit more, but dependant on chip. I already posted the old pricerange..i dunno what the price is for the x800 series, as noone other than sapphire builds those boards now...so there is no possible way for me to know waht ATI is charging sapphire for them.
10k chips per wafer?! What are you smoking? pi*150*150 = 71000mm^2 area....each chip is 12mm * 12mm (this is smaller than actual, I'm being nice), meaning 144mm^2, which translates into <500 chips per wafer. 10k is 20x that :stick:Quote:

we are speaking of Wafer slabs not the Wafers themself...
At $7000? Each wafer is AT LEAST ~$3000, how do you figure to get a slab for $7000? $7000 makes sense for a wafer after production costs.Quote:

300mm wafers, a chip being AT LEAST 10MM².....
for 10k per wafer, concidering the wafer would be cornerd so a rectangle, you'd need a wafer with....
1000 x 1000 mm specifications, lets not forgot wafer are NOT rectangular, they are round, that there are ALWAYS broken/buggy cores on a wafer.....
BTW the bigger your wafer gets the worse the yields off course. The wafercount stays the same but the number of cores on the wafer that might cause problems goes up :)
you do realize that they are not bought precut right?
You do realize that when it's all said and done, each WAFER is $7000+? They are not cheap.
All said and done.. You will pay all of their costs period...
But do you think it will perform...
Let`s just see the facts. Intel makes their chips for $40 a piece - and that`s w/o any kind o`package or label. It`s just small piece o`silicon with all the materials projected on it - crystal.
GPUs are more complicated and bigger - I think everybody knows that. So I guess my ~$50 a core (crystal) is a bit less than the actuall cost.
So let`s stop confusing each other with the numbers we(and myself) don`t know for sure. :toast:
The problem with that estimate is that Intel is actually extremely efficient. Half the point of that report was to point out that no other company can even come close to rivalling $40 a core. I'd peg GPU a core closer to earlier estimates of $80, based off the size, complexity and the lack of skillz by other companies to pump out cheap sh*t.Quote:

As R520 is launching at October 4th, what is this.. crossfire?
Edit: Or maby just X800GTO :P
*jawn*
that add is for the x800GT :stick:
September 15th is Crossfire, i think. very strange.
Err september 15th is today/tomorrow :P
As far as I know :)
yes, but ATI is canadian company, based in same country as me, and here it is 5pm local time september 14th...
I've been hearing the 24th for CF...15th is a very old rumor.
yeah, i think it was mine ;) :D
Honestly tho, i dunno what the hell that's about...maybe the X800GTO launch, seiing how it's posted on the x800GT site as well. :D
well in the end anyone but ATi will be paying for R&D and production...Quote:

This thread is full of crap, someone please clean it. Otherwise, just unsticky and make new threads for every new ATI rumour. A third option would be to only let the XS News team post in it.
Seriously, this thread has gone completely out of hand.
Cooper, please, tell us all how you made all that out... AFAIK the missing parts are not in Russian.Quote:

Krille this thread is for unofficial ATI news. So rumors are welcomed here :)
