I have been one of the peeps that was called out on my comments - now in retrospect I actually agree that I was off to downplay the achievement of Macci and assuming that it was a cakewalk with a handpicked card and setup.

Hopefully soon I will get close being able to answer that...being trying to do some cherry picking - already went thru buying and selling 6 X850 trying to find a great clocker...not yet unfortunately.
I actually feel that the core might be an easier quest than the memory - at least all my cards have been very poor in that respect.
Maybe Macci had a trick for the mem too...

what about the v-i/o mod as well, done at the same time? there were 6 or 7 VR's on that card. Someone posted what the mods were:nono:, and then the post was removed.. :slapass:

Just look at the pink markings on the sheets that are under the card that engineer is modding, that could give some of you an idea of what he was modding there.

EDIT: also have a look on those VR's soldered to that strange yellow conector beside the pci-e power connector.

Anyone has a copy of that post? :D, With precedents like that, I don't think anyone will tell us the whole list of mods done on those cards.

Appears to be a mod to one of these mini mosfets, so maybe just a voltage monitor.

This is the best I could get it.

It's not exacly hard to find specs on little vreg chips, just check the voltage going into the sense leg, throw a 100K potentiometer on it and give the card 10% more voltage to that area and watch for additional clock speeds or artifacts.
