With stock fans at that voltage the temps are pretty ok. It will probably never reach 70 in regular daily use.
Comparing the 212+ with the Noctua is like buying an airplane and using it on the road. I'm pretty sure even the stock cooler is decent at stock voltage.
Can you guys tell me what method you used to apply thermal, other than what Noctua recommends?

Not even the mighty Copper can keep up with the incredible mass of the Noctua even at ridiculous voltages.
Ah hah . . . interesting. This flies in the face of the xbit review, or otherwise indicates that its the tr-fdbs that fail to perform well past 1800 cfm rather than the nh-d14 itself. Thank you for that test data.Quote:

I know from experience with a mugen 2 and a tec. TEC out put a lot of heat can reach 80C on hot side with heat sink only about 55C.
Im looking to upgrade my older TRUE, its a first gen 120 before the later revisions.
it seems the noctua D14 is pretty much the best aircooler on the market, on the other hand it s freaking unbelievably massive, i mean good lord lol. I would want to have something to hang it from the top of the chassis in fear of board stress over time.
im looking at the new Thermalright venmous-x. From a couple reviews i read, it performs almost as good, but much less mass.

thats interesting regarding weights. I didn't look at the weights of the two coolers, just skimmed to the meat of reviews. You would think the nocuta would be at least 1200g, but its just slightly heavier than the venomous. The mian concern for me is the mass, the venomous is not nearly as large. And performance was only 1 degree off using push/pull in a tweaktown review i read. Granted they used 70lb on the special pressure pad on the venomous, when used with 40lb, the Noctura blew it away.
Kinda of settled on the venomous+ some MX3 paste. I was looking at the corsair H50 for a brief second, but the performance is notably worse than high end heatpipe solutions, and the design kinda of sucks because it dumps alot of hot air into the case, since it can't be exhausted out the rear...poo
I think you'd need a 300w pelt (possibly more) and some sophisticated controls to keep temps at a point where you would not need to insulate.Quote:

No worry venomous is great cooler with proper mounting system. I also owned first revision T.R.U.E... Mounting was really poo.. some of the idiotical reviews on the net that pretend to be hard... enthusiasts are putting low spinning 12x12x25 fans on the VX ...i have no idea why should a person who spends 60bucks on a cooler not spend 12bucks on a good 38mm fan...but since they are hard... enthusiast and im not guess they know better.
anyway VX needs at least 1600rpm fan if youre at around 4ghz with a quad.
also go check the big cooler review from the romanian guys in the review section,one of the best.
if space,weight,mobo components and ram module height are not of concern then go for the Noctua d14 which is the better cooler.

Someone more familiar with heatsinks can probably give you a more authoritative answer, but in the meantime, based on the one I got.. it arrives flat with what feel like very, very small thin grooves I think.
Do not lap the base of the NH-d14. it isn't flat. It's designed to have a curve in it. Lapping the D14 will do more harm than good.Quote:

The outer fan (underneath the optic drive) nearest the case grill is a scythe 1600 rpm 25mm into another Ultra kaze 2k rpm 38 mm fan. With this setup it certainly cooled my hsf better but I still don't see idle temps around the 35C range with my ambient temps around 25C or lower.
I wonder if I'll get better results with another case or if it's just my C0 cpu. I can hit 3.8ghz at less than stock volts and it takes about 1.35V in mobo to hit 4ghz.
I feel like this cooler is no better than my TRUE rev.B. unless I'm still doing something wrong. I'm using stock fans on the D14

Do you have Q-Fan enabled in bios?
Are the two ULNA attached to their corresponding fan?
Sounds to me like you have Q-Fan enabled. That with the ULNA adapter isn't giving the 140mm fan enough volts to start.
i removed the ULNA adapter for the 140mm and actually its working ok now, i just enabled the Q-Fan control in the mobo, altho i guess Everest is showing me the 120mm RPM not the 140mm ?Quote:
