Worked for me. Thanks. That being said I do think that the ads should be looked into.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, I am just saying blocking ads isn't the purpose of it. Think of it like fixing a photograph, you should use Lightroom not Photoshop. Both programs work, but Photoshop isn't (any longer) designed for photography. If you want to use it I have no issues.
you're painting semantics.. it doesn't matter. you block the script the ad is using and it blocks the ad. period.
I dunno why you're on your high horse about semantics of what to use.
if you're so gung ho about claiming your way is right and everyone elses is wrong, then write up a tutorial on how yours is so superior.
less mouth, more results.
Why are you guys fighting with each other? It's not even the purpose of this thread. Work together to get this ad problem solved. ;)
I wonder if everyone spammed Fugger, the admins, and mod's, if that would get their attention.
I was never trying to fight, don't take what I say personally. I am also not trying to say my way is better than yours, your way just worries me and I will tell you why.
NoScript is designed as a security tool, not an adblocking tool. NoScript's own site states this and recommends using ABP for blocking ads with NS for security. The NS page mentions specifically that it is designed to guard you against XSS and clickjacking. The implementation of such a security system is very different from one that blocks ads. NS also has the ability to disable js and crucial site features. For this reason I don't recommend people who don't understand how NS works to play around with it.
ABP, on the other hand, is an easy to use fully functional ad blocker. This video demonstrates how to install it and set it up (certainly less than 1min). Easylist automatically blocked everything, but if it doesn't you can always manually block things with the little block tab that appears (disable-able/enable-able feature). Element hiding helper ads even more functionality.
My comments on the NS creator were more to let people know that he may do some slightly grey area stuff with the add-on and there is a list of incompatibilities.
I had no idea I was fighting, I certainly wasn't trying too.
Thx for all the recommendations in the thread, whether there is debating going on or not. I'm a complete noob on the ad-blocking subject but this has proved useful to me, for way more than this site. I used to have the REALLY ANNOYING audio ads popping up all over the place on other sites, but now they're dead.
Thank you for the tips.....
As to this site, I think the message may have been heard? I didn't care about the ads on top and bottom of the page, but the ones I had popping up on the right side of the screen, with no way to close them, really got me. I (knocks-on-wood) have not seen another one of those yet.
I'm a "paid-up" member until 2049, by the advertised rates, so I expect nothing to block my access to the meat of this site. Namely the forum content.....The top and bottom I could care less about. ......I could use some teeth whitening though....:ROTF:
Regards to all,
Bob
i noticed that the site is loading a lot slower now, would be nice to see some of the ad money be used for better hardware/connectivity.
i'm also concerned that more and more people will just block the ads and some people might leave for good, which will hurt the forums a lot
using leased hardware in a datacenter i estimate the operating costs at max. usd 400 per month, the ad from gigabyte alone should be able to cover that. also afaik fugger is using his own hardware and his work's internet connectivity, so cost should be lower ?
sorry about the debate and conflict with faster 3200. but he is right in the regard that adblock plus works fine too, if you configure it properly. in fact you can use "ANY" method you want to block the flash ad in the upper right on this site, THEY KEY BEING THE SOURCE [adjuggler.com] - block that and the flash ads go bye bye.
same deal with noscript, it has to be configured properly, and is why I posted specific instructions on how to block the flash ad in the upper right of the page at xs on pg 4 of this thread using noscript http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...75#post4092875
but since faster3200 has not bothered to post specific simple instructions for blocking the flash ads at xs using his preferred method ABP. I will, here's a ss with instructions and link for dl.
dl ABP https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 or http://adblockplus.org/en/
then add "adjuggler.com" to the filter. this will stop the flash ads in the upper right at xs.

personally, I like noscript because it is a much more powerful tool and can block many more dangerous scripts besides ads. so you get a very powerful tool with noscript, but it has to be configured just like every other piece of software. same with ABP.
but like I said any script or ad blocker that can block "adjuggler.com" will accomplish this purpose at xs-it will kill the flash ads in the upper right.
Let's just stop this whole discussion of what way is better. It doesn't matter, the only thing that matters in this situation is stopping "adjuggler.com" when visiting XS. you do that you stop the flash ads, I dont care what you use to do it.
if you do have a different method, at least post some instructions and source for the users that need help getting it to work, that's all I'm really saying. dont be the knowitall guy that comes in spouts off a bunch of info and leaves no instructions for others. who does help other than your own ego.

now all that being said, have yall disabled your blockers recently? I just did and did not see any talking ads. so the "talking ads" issue may already be resolved.
nope just today i got the laughing smileys  my boss heard it and came over, he sacked me on the spot and told me to clear my desk.
on the way home in my car i wasnt watching what i was doing and rear rammed a car, he will be claiming on my insurance for that.
when i finaly got home a note was waiting for me, my wife has left me and taken my two daughters to live with my best mate........who is a girl
added to this i might have fried my graphics card............
heads over to the Nvidia section
i blame FUGGER for everything
oh my god, I feel so sorry for you
Apparently Fugger has been ill for weeks hence why we haven't heard anything from him. I'm sure he'll look into this as soon as he recovers.
Meanwhile, you can go to the ORIGINAL POST if you want to say get well.
Fixing ads now
I will do database checks and backup tonight, I am just glad nothing failed while I was away. We should be back up to speed soon.
Thanks! And hope you get back to 100% soon.
As for better relevance to the site can't complain too much about Gigabyte, Adobe and Blizzard ads. At least compared to some we've had recently.
thank you so much FUGGER.
hope you feel better.
Welcome back fugger!
Thank you Fugger, hope your feeling better
Thank you very much for addressing the issue Fugger. Certainly hope you get back to 100% soon!
