Wow!!!! Really nice render of that hand.
:) j/k obviously. Looks gorgeous.
Looks sweet
Heh, shazza, your reverse drilling is equivalent to my plywood straight-edge. Most of us are still learning in one way or another. :p:
Thanks. ;)
Thanks. :)
:ROTF:
I don't think I could do that with an RZ if I had an electron-miscroscope sighting on it.
Thanks, man.
I have lots more pictures, but I'm waiting on the shop to send me the action shots from the waterjet before I reveal more shots of the side panel. (They wouldn't let me take my own shots but were kind enough to take some for me during the process.)
There's a twist to reveal very soon that I think/hope most of you will like. Also, although that's just a teaser shot, keep in mind that the side panel will be painted at a later time. The entire case will be, both inside and out, though I've yet to decide what color.
Ah, you know what? The hellwithit. I'm dying to share a few more shots with you guys, so here's one more while I wait on the action shots to get back to me. And yes, this is the real thing--not a render.

ridiculous....
wow... just amazing man! keep it up!
What colour Perspex are you going to put behind that?
Your going to paint it are you, I thought you would of had it powder coated, or at least powder coat the base and paint highlights on top.
If thats in the design.
WOW....that is just gorgeous
You know I will. Nice to see the concept become reality, eh? :D
I can't be revealing all of my plot just yet, kg. :D
I will say this, though. Sometimes the devil is in the details. ;)
I won't be painting it myself--will have someone do that as I made a real mess with paint the last time out. It'll be powder coated on the inside and possibly the exterior. I kind of like the matte/brushed finish of the aluminum, so I may be experimenting with something like that for the side/front panels.
Not for sure yet. Will be working on the color scheme in the coming days.
Thanks, glad you like! :)
Wow !!! Thanks for sharing
... fingers start walking toward the Yellow Pages looking for local Water Jet cutters ...
That right there is cash money, brother...
which as you know is the best kind. :)
Looks awesome!
You know, some places will ship/deliver. My outfit does. They have a lot of clients they've never met face to face.
That makes the cad work all the more important, though, so they'll have a clear picture of exactly what it is you are looking for.
I happen to be very fortunate that this place is within 2 hours from me. I knew beforehand that the shop owner had been jetting since the late 80s when I was told he helped invent the technology while cutting titanium for the Air Force. He's done some great work which I hope and believe is apparent in the design. It was a precise, clean cut on what I feel is a rather complex design.
Much appreciated, bud.
Wow!
:eek2:   :eek2:
I'm glad that you guys like the design.
She sure wasn't easy to create. I probably spent over 100 hours in 3ds Max easily mapping all the curves to just the right perspective. But as I sit here across from her on my couch (yes, she's propped up in a chair across from me like a welcomed guest) I know that she was worth every penny, every hour, every minute and every second. :D
One key milestone reached, but there's lots more to come. Next is to work on completing that bay cover.
The last pic of the side panel and perspex behind it......Jaw-dropping.
Looking forward to more fantastic pics.
Thanks, Red-5!
But.. perspex? :wasntme:
Alright, who's ready for some waterjet pics? :D
First, I'd like to thank Mike and Chris Dixon of ADCUT for doing an exceptional job on the side panel, along with the other cuts that I had them make which I will reveal shortly. And not only that, but for indulging me by taking a few pictures of the work in action.
I told them: "Guys out there eat up waterjets; I have to give them something." :D
--And they were kind enough to indulge me by taking a few great shots of the cutting in action to share with you guys.
I'm usually very picky about the work that I do and that I see others do, but in their case, there is nothing to be picky about. I told them what I was looking to do, and they made it happen exactly as I had hoped. This build is really just getting started, but to see concept come to life is almost surreal.
I'd also like to thank Ann Greco for answering my numerous emails and phone calls at all hours of the day and for helping set up the meeting between us which, in the end, I feel (and hope that many of you will as well) led to a special creation. You guys are the best!
Alright, enough talk. I feel like I'm at an Emmy awards, and I haven't even done anything yet. ;)
Ahhhh, waterjet.

Probably the neatest tool I have ever seen in action. I told Mike, "This makes an entire weekend of sheet metal work with a Rotozip look puny by comparison."
Don't get me wrong; I love my RZ. But this thing cut so quick and precise. All pieces were cut in about 15 minutes. Granted, there was some setup time involved beforehand, but much of that was help from Mike in making the graphic even better. He had a tip to help round off straight edges even better than I was able to do with hundreds of vertices.

A good shot of the abrasive used in the cutting.

Nice, smooth rounded edges.

And that leads us to our finished products! Here are some good shots of the bay cover.

The bay cover will of course be bent to the specs shown in the renders. That's the easy part. Shelves will also be inserted, and it will of course be painted at a later time.
More shots of the side panel to come next.
NOW!
MORE PICTURES NOW!
Stop rendering waterjets and passing them off as "real" :P
Uploading... :)
I present: the refleXion side panel.

To he who has knowledge, the next twist in the project, the next secret to be revealed, can be found in one of the above pics. Let he who has this wisdom reveal it to us. :D
Very impressive work Xion X2. I wish I had half the skill you do with metal.
:eek2: man! those are some amazing renders! you're getting really good at that!, but seriously... we need to see some real parts soon :D
