I'd make my bet on 2 TFLOPS HD5850, and 2.4 TFLOPS HD5870. There's an official info for partners of Cypress having "more than 2 TFLOPS!" (supposedly so they can design the boxes, advertising and all) on it.

Assuming they havent done anything radical like split shader and core clocks, the 1600 SP @ 625MHz for a 5850 sounds the most reasonable for 2 TFlops. Higher clocks make it harder to achieve yields, and 500 MHz just seems too low.

Not completely but there was reports of 8 ICs under the Cypress heatsink from a week or so ago.

Sounds good, 5850 Xfire will be a nice upgrade from my 4870 1gb xfire, if these numbers hold true... I just really hope they have a good cooling solution, I hate having to wait, or customize on launch.

That too, if the sockets are different and we have to wait till the verge of arrival of next gen cards for custom cooling to replace the crappy loud stock cooling, I'm out.

+1 im fed up with the wait, I hope swiftech can get an adapter for my block out quicker than the last gen

I believe I have read somewhere in this forums that the leaked images of the HD5870 cooler shows that the mounting it's the same than HD4000 series, like they were the same than HD3000 series, like they were the same than X1000 series (the different one was HD2000 I think) so it seems that a GPU block / cooler (while it isn't full cover) for the previous gen should be compatible with this one...

AMD might have something special on their hands and simple doesn't want to tip off Nvidia while THEY ramp up their marketing and production cycles.

Would be amazing if the HD4850 replacement dubbed the HD5850 IS indeed a 2 terraflop card...unless nVidia has something truly magnificent up their sleeves ATi are onto a winner.
My prediction for this round is that ATi will have higher performance for Hardware Tessellation , however nVidia will be better at DirectX Compute.
The rest...who knows, but one thing is for certain and that is the reviews will be highly anticipated, praised and disputed.

I don't know about tesselation or compute or any other DirectX features, but I think NVIDIA will be better at OpenCL (because of its resemblance to CUDA). But who knows.

I just hope there is enough to match demand, i remember when 4870 came out last year, it was crazy trying to get a card. I somehow managed to grab one off NCIX..the 512mb 4870

wish i had just waited a lil bit longer..lawl 1G's came out very fast. I recently got a 24' BenQ monitor, and the 512mb is not quite cutting in a couple games i play. At the time I didnt see the point in paying more just for the 1Gb refresh...but the time is now i think

I highly doubt the q6600 @ 3.6 will bottleneck especially as newer games will use all 4 cores.

a 3.6ghz q6600 vs a I920 I7 at 3.6 there will be a difference, but hardly any bottleneck wise

yah, a q6600 at 3.6 is still one of the top processors out there. Much better if you have it on an x48, x38, or p45 rather than a p965, 975, or p35. Only a few processors are more competitive or near that level... high-end denebs @ 3.4g+, E8xxx @ 4.0g+, high-end yorkfields @ 3.4g+, and i7's @ 3.0g+. These are all top of the line processors, so your Q6600 @ 3.6 should be good for quite some time, and will hang in there with the denebs, nehalems & yorkfields, and likely outlive the E8xxx's.

Lol, you sorta touched on my only concern with my current setup. Damn p35 and only having PCI-e 1.1. I hope it doesn't get a bottleneck due to lack of bandwidth. Oh well, I need a new card and I'll find out when I get it.

It won't, he's only talking about crossfire setups. P35 and their irk are garbage for that.

If im building a rig to sell on ebay, almost the same as my sig (6gb of DDR3, differnt video card, 1tb storage drive) should I wait till these new 5870's are launched or get a 4890 now for the build? The 5870's are coming out within a couple weeks right?

I say wait a few weeks for the reviews and actual stats come out. Also, BlackFriday and CyberMonday is comming up in a couplee of months. I'm sure at least SOMEONE will have a sale price on the 5870s. :)
