Good point...

The fact is, without TRIM, no SSD is working like it's intended to do, OS is missing a vital command to let the SSD's purge LBA and properly delete files. Intel Gen. 1 and all current SSD's is infact not able to work like they should, and all manufacturers - including Intel - have correctly put the blame on the lack of a proper SSD friendly OS, now we get the SSD friendly OS, and a hope that now, finally the SSD we bought for a heafty price will work like it should, instead we get shafted by Intel as they choose not to support the one thing that lets SSD's behave like they should do and is elementary in the world of storage. I can feel the pain in my bones.... Most SSD buyers knew that they had to live with a disk that did not function properly utill Win7 hit the shelves, as Intel stated so many times, and was willing to endure that for a while, I for one are not willing to endure this permanently..

Again... let's all slow down and wait to see what Intel actually does. Also, they did release the newer, faster drives at A MUCH LOWER PRICE. Does anyone else not see the insanity in that?

How about you just let people express their constructive frustration to let Intel know that the Juice is worth the squeeze! Because otherwise we will be VERY unhappy with the support provided!

Yeh Garbage Collection would make more sense I guess until they sort out the ICH Drivers.

So it seems like all of the ssd's are out of stock now, newegg even removed them from their site...

And next week there will be more, and out of stock quickly.... Repeat for a few weeks til end result supply has finally meet demand.

The G2 is sertainly no fix for the G1, unless they think G2 is downloadable and can install on the G1...... Brown noses the lot of them, kissing Intels ass even if they act like an ass right infront of their eyes......

I think with all the rumours flying around about intel allegedly leaving us with Gen1 drives out in the cold when it comes to future firmware updates and the possibility of TRIM and leaving all the goodies for the Gen2 drives Intel should make a statement to quash these rumours, IMHO Intel are usually a forward thinking company, I cannot see them releasing a cutting edge product without fully supporting the emerging technology and embracing new emerging standards.
Something tells me that they either refused to comment on "Gen1 drives" as they were purely marketing the new Gen2 products, or the people were not privvy to that information so could not answer the question.

Well it's not just Anand now that is claiming Intel have stopped supporting G1.
If your quick you may be able to trade in your G1's for G2's! Not necessarily an ideal solution as someone ends up not having TRIM but (Probably) the only one if you want TRIM.

Well as the reviewers seem pretty clear TRIM isn't coming to g1, I think Intel has already let them know, as why else would more than one reviewer make such a statement as fact, they would surely describe uncertainty of future FW updates for g1 if they didn't 'ACTUALLY' know.

This is why I thought people with g1 needed to kick-off because if you don't ask (demand) you don't get, and Intel will treat it's customers like doormats if they roll-over and let them.

I have not heard about any tradeprogram where I got my drives, even if they should just shut it and swap for G2 if I wanted to, but that is just believing in santa I suppose.....

It's early days yet... lets see what happens, remember that Intel first denied being able to reproduce the fragmentation issue on the Gen1 drives reported by PC Perspective... so lets see how the dust (or is it NAND flash?) settles ;)

Your right, they have been known to tell porkies, but I'm willing to bet if there isn't any outcry that's causing bad publicity they will dump support for the G1's, in favour of getting you to upgrade instead.

People have criticised Intel for (probably) ending support for G1's because G1's despite obviously being a good SSD would benefit from TRIM.

And I think most people took it as a given that Intel would at least provide TRIM.

Call me cynical, but if Intel do not update the Gen1 drives, it could even make people think twice about Larrabee...just speculating as I type it would not surprise me if Samsung give intel a challenge in the SSD arena as the 256GB drive has some pretty good plus points.
