Rules have to be firmly in place - I mean seeing and experiencing what allowed in GOOC LA - US was like :eek::eek::eek::eek: , and hearing rumors what all was done in the previous and other events :rofl::rofl:
You don't have to do anything you haven't already done with authority before George :up: Just bench the benchmarks that are in the contest, and try to be the best score for one particular benchmark every month or round. Then we move on to the next benchmark and repeat for around 5 months.Quote:

Now you guys need to come up with rules about what Tweaks and Mods are allowed. Everything should be based upon HWBot and the big Live contests. But any iffy results will go to a Steward's Enquiry (Stewards need to be sought!). Just be sure to keep it as simple as possible for season one. This should maybe done in another thread.
Fortunately we have good precedents to copy from Formula 1 for cheating. While we can't fine people $100 million dollars for flagrant cheating, we are encouraging cutting edge speeds here. Every result will naturally be scrutinised and I fully expect some results to be reversed by Stewards after the event - that comes with Formula One style competition. The boundary between extreme tweak and cheating can be marginal in some cases, so 'cheats' should not necessarily be flogged alive.Quote:

you know i have just realised this isnt a meat up, but running more like a competition that is HWbot related, guest teams bench a score/clock, and then submit it in the usual way (screens etc)
so why are the guest teams limited? i just dont get it :shrug:
please would someone explain to me why they are limited? because for the life of me i cant see why they are.

Sponsorship should be through money, not hardware, because you can not quaranty that the hardware is really for sell. (example: By decreasing the out of order windows into an x86 CPU, you are verylikely to increase the speed that a CPU OC ... there are many tricks like this that Manufactured can do.)
In fact, we should make sure that the CPUs are "stock", the best way to do so is to show a SPECCPU run at stock frequency (And compare it to SPEC CPU site). The F1 guys keep measuring and weighting the cars before and after the competition. Nothing disturbing, it is the price to pay for high competition.
GOOC and most of the OC contest are make with one set of hardware, because as soon as you start comparing Manufacturer, they start using bellow the belt tricks to win ... You have to regulate the kind of OC used, to make sure that it does not requires 20 000$ of cooling, you probably want to limit it to a certain amount to be sure ... otherwise, you ll end up with a 100 000$ chiller used in French CEA to cool uranium that only one company can pay ... ;-)
Throwing money at the competition should not be the way to win the contest, you want the talen of the Overclocker to be what make him win!
you should have aircool results, watercool results, Chiller results, and Liquid gas result, and the average of the 4 is what will make the final score. in fact, based on Spec recommandations, you should be using the geomean of the scores. (agreed by all the bench industry)
