Rules have to be firmly in place - I mean seeing and experiencing what allowed in GOOC LA - US was like :eek::eek::eek: , and hearing rumors what all was done in the previous and other events :rofl:
You don't have to do anything you haven't already done with authority before George  Just bench the benchmarks that are in the contest, and try to be the best score for one particular benchmark every month or round. Then we move on to the next benchmark and repeat for around 5 months.
If there is a clock limit imposed it will be very difficult to prevent down clocking for screen shots. This needs to be addressed and resolved.
That's the official message. Allow me (and others) to have some doubts about this statement.
Furthermore, these cherry samples will find their way to the scene much like they already did. The easiest way to ban the 'unfair advantage' is not to ban the chips, but make sure everyone knows it's a cherry chip.
Clock limitations are complete BS for this and every other overclocking event ... or am I just confused by the term 'overCLOCKing'.
It's about the fastest platform in this league, not the most efficient or whatever.
I am looking at the 1st post.. and I see the teams are shifting members and what not.
I am curious.. I know Fugger is deciding the two members for Team USA. The question I have are on the other Manufacturers Team. Who is picking / deciding the members? Is this done by the Manufacturer? Or are the organizers Seeding the teams (i.e. Asus and DFI).

Dfi's filled as well; afaik only Asus still available.
You will see that we will respect this, no hand picks parts will be distributed. Try to see from all of your contact, I am sure you will always get the same answer.
There is only one place generating the parts : The fab, and I am making sure that the person doing the testing is not providing any to anybody.
The play ground is equal on our side :yepp:
I will make a point to keep it this way, let me know if somebody break this rule :D
You can notice that the GOOC 2009 CPUs are very much like what you can buy in the store today.
Some sweet updates here...
Charles has confirmed he's in, yay!
Team USA – FUGGER – mikeguava
Team DFI is confirmed by DFI HQ as
Massman – over@locker886
A great Team China entry comes from
Artkobe - Victorwang
Team Asus continues to not get anywhere fast.
Team Tom's Hardware is opening right up. It should no longer be just Germans.
All looking like a very very good line up. :):):):):)
Now you guys need to come up with rules about what Tweaks and Mods are allowed. Everything should be based upon HWBot and the big Live contests. But any iffy results will go to a Steward's Enquiry (Stewards need to be sought!). Just be sure to keep it as simple as possible for season one. This should maybe done in another thread.
Fortunately we have good precedents to copy from Formula 1 for cheating. While we can't fine people $100 million dollars for flagrant cheating, we are encouraging cutting edge speeds here. Every result will naturally be scrutinised and I fully expect some results to be reversed by Stewards after the event - that comes with Formula One style competition. The boundary between extreme tweak and cheating can be marginal in some cases, so 'cheats' should not necessarily be flogged alive.
Just remember that every result will be scrutinised. We need to decide at what point an anomalous percentage boost must be openly revealed or face disqualification/penalty. I'm really not wanting instabans in this if we can possibly help it.
Hey The_Overclocker,
How about Team IRONMODS.. we did win Tom's Hardware US Regional, then the Tom's Hardware World Championship in Paris.
Team IRONMODS = Cpt.Planet, MIAHALLEN, and Myself.
MIAHALLEN also did win the GOOC2009 US Qualifier.
So I think we would be good to represent Tom's Hardware Team. Is there a particular Tom's Hardware / Best of Media rep we need to talk to?

Cool. I will drop Patrick an email later today. He is a very nice guy. Well.. all the BOM people are :)
:shrug:Seems The_Overclocker didn't see my post. Anyway, artkobe and victorwang are great overclockers in China.:clap::clap:
you know i have just realised this isnt a meat up, but running more like a competition that is HWbot related, guest teams bench a score/clock, and then submit it in the usual way (screens etc)
so why are the guest teams limited? i just dont get it
please would someone explain to me why they are limited? because for the life of me i cant see why they are.
I think that a prove of purchase of the hardware should be required, from a store or online store, this would avoid cheating from manufacturer, this should include the serial number of the hardware (all online store does this)
The rules of Formula one are much stronger than this, because the cheating is going very strong in the past in F1, all sports need strick rules, when it comes to the world top players.
Intel will take the high road and stick to store parts. I hope you guys will reconize this and allow every Overclockers to participate, not only few hand picked samples from one company ... This is killing the sport!
Sponsorship should be through money, not hardware, because you can not quaranty that the hardware is really for sell. (example: By decreasing the out of order windows into an x86 CPU, you are verylikely to increase the speed that a CPU OC ... there are many tricks like this that Manufactured can do.)
In fact, we should make sure that the CPUs are "stock", the best way to do so is to show a SPECCPU run at stock frequency (And compare it to SPEC CPU site). The F1 guys keep measuring and weighting the cars before and after the competition. Nothing disturbing, it is the price to pay for high competition.
GOOC and most of the OC contest are make with one set of hardware, because as soon as you start comparing Manufacturer, they start using bellow the belt tricks to win ... You have to regulate the kind of OC used, to make sure that it does not requires 20 000$ of cooling, you probably want to limit it to a certain amount to be sure ... otherwise, you ll end up with a 100 000$ chiller used in French CEA to cool uranium that only one company can pay ... ;-)
Throwing money at the competition should not be the way to win the contest, you want the talen of the Overclocker to be what make him win!
you should have aircool results, watercool results, Chiller results, and Liquid gas result, and the average of the 4 is what will make the final score. in fact, based on Spec recommandations, you should be using the geomean of the scores. (agreed by all the bench industry)
Francois
that doesnt make sense, i am talking about the guest teams, not the manufactuer teams, and with this comment in the first post, i cant see any problem with sponsership.
Quote:
Sponsorship
Each team is free to organise its own sponsorship. At present Corsair and Kingston are prepared to supply top-quality RAM to anyone that needs it. Power Supplies have also been promised by Antec, Corsair and Cooler Master. Galaxy is happy to supply graphics cards.
Francios i must say i havent exactly been a 'fan' of yours in the past, but what you have just said about retail reciepts and so on, is the best comment i have seen on the thread so far
If only retail samples are to be used, wouldn't that just make this competition equal to what we have already, only using different names? I mean ... it's still the same bunch of guys who have been getting samples (either because of contacts or for review) who will play this game.
Other effect is that cherry picked samples or especially tuned samples will find their way into the competition eventually, creating an even more uneven competition.
Ideally, maybe.
But all manufacturers would much rather give away samples than money. Smart marketing reps & engineers can convince upper-level bosses that giving hardware to overclockers can be beneficial, but cash payments are going to take a miracle, at least initially.
