DFI has early BETA BIOS fixing that issue :)
Read Hardware Canucks review for more info. From article..

To cut a long story short, we brought in another DK X38 T2R along with a beastly LanParty LT X48 T2R and found both new boards to have the same video display issue so we immediately knew that it was the board itself and not the card. After searching through the DFI Beta site, a BIOS was found that completely resolved the problem with the incompatibility between the motherboard and the HD4870 X2.
At this time we have only experienced problems with DFI’s X48 and X38 boards. The P35 and P45 series seem to be fine but if you are having problems with either of these chipsets, please post in our HD4870 X2 comment thread and we will try to sort things out.
Hi Everyone,
I'm contemplating picking up the X2, but I've read conflicting posts that state vsync can't be used on that card due to AFR
I run 90% of my games with it-I can't stand tearing, so it will be an essential function.
So, is this fact or fiction?
Thanks
FYI for everone who tried the Beta BIOS from DFI. It seems that it works for some boards and not others. On the three boards I have now tested it on it works, on a forum member's board it didn't seem to.
Good going DFI...
Thanks ether.real,
I've never run a multi-gpu card before and wanted to make sure this was not an issue.
I appreciate it.

Unbornchield , here is the bench you asked
I only run 2 loops , dont know if with default Run (4 loops) the results are better , even so :

On my Maximus Formula i would get a message on screen "NO PCI-E CABLE IS PLUGGED IN THE VGA CARD. PLUG THE CABLE IN IMMEDIATELY". or similar (forgot the exact words)... :p:
Thanks very much Mascars!
Yes the first of the 4 level-bench loops is always somwhat slower (only maybe 1 fps less, no big deal).
No question, i'll buy 4870X2 anyway, as soon as i can get my hands on one.
Yes he forgot that! :D Mascars never shows the bottom line in his bench window (it would reveal the type of test run). Oh and Mascars: the 64 bit version of the exe does not run ANYTHING better than the 32 bit version. Subjectively, the 32 bit version seemed more fluid. On my single 4870, Cat 8.7, Vista Ult 64 SP1, 8 GB RAM, DX10 VH / 1440x900 8xFSAA system see my sig
afaik you can disable one gpu in the driver without restart (at least my 3870s do) to play older games, and ALL older games work with excellent framerates and high resolutions on a 4870 1gb ;)
old game not supportet is one of the worst arguments i've ever hear because CF has been around for 3 years and i'm sure that they didn't drop CF support from any game they added in these 3 years...
BTW: even without support 95% of all old games run on CF enabled systems without IQ issues or perforrmance drops
More like 50% but that's innacurate as you or me can't test all older games. And yes, you can use Catalyst AI to disable Crossfire if needed too. But what's the point of disabling one of the cores you've paid for? Even for old games I needed way more than a single 3870 with heavy AA. Now with the 4870 that need is almost non existent tho, but still there. I was talking about swapping cards, was that guy serious? :ROTF:
BTW Gears of War DX10 is fixed with lastest drivers? That wasn't an old game and perfomance was :banana::banana::banana: at best
sory :p:
new one

What's the point of playing a DX7 or DX8 game with a DX10.1 card for which you paid good money?
You see, there are a lot of arguments on that matter. Would you think a GTX280 would be better at playing a 3 year old game? And for that matter I do not think a 3 year old game is old. But seriously, how should the HD4870 1GB be any problem with games that are a couple of years old? I'm not sure, but you stated that AA was the killer back when you had your HD3870. I'm sure you are aware of the fact that AA was the weak point of the HD3000 series, but is really the strong point of the HD4000 series. So that is that.
What game(s) can you come up with that 1) have no (decent) CF support, and 2) won't run fluently on "only" an HD4870 1GB?
Also what about renaming the executable if you desperatly want to crossfire those games?
Last I would think civ2, monkey island 1 & 2 and stuff like that are prehistoric. Games with an engine that is accelerated by D3D I would consider just old.
But seriously though, I don't see the point in thinking a 2 year old game would suffer many problems trying to get it running crossfired.
Hiya
Not quite sure if this is the right place for my problem but i've been following this thread, and in general the 4870X2 news quite thoroughly, and focus seems to be in here in this thread.
Well, I just recieved my 4870X2 by Club3d and now I can't get the card to "post" It doesn't show any screen what so ever.
I can see five little LED's light up when the system starts and the fan is also running - but no screen.
I tried to install my old 8800GTS 512 card and it had no problems it posted instantly.
I've tried to connect hardmounted cables AND modular cables from my PSU but for no good.
I'm desperate
