I think they only benched 3D01 Nature. I'm sure Massman will be re-benching anyways.
Yes, only new scores count. I took down my 2001 and 03 scores to avoid confusion. Score has to be submitted between now and last day of Feb.
He will have experience from the Dutch 8400GS challenge but I did mention this competetion s when talking about the pro's and cons of benching the 8400GS.
Wonder if Rol-Co and others will also join?
Regards
Andy
Some of the guys have to repair there cards first. These cards die quickly, :S
I ordered an el cheapo card to be shipped by air , should be here before the weekend is out I hope. 37.99 plus taxes and shipping. I already spotted some nice VMODS and the temps outside are -15c so it's time for a little tailgate benching party with hot toddies.... cold air still counts as air right? I can pray for -40c days, there's bound to be a couple yet this is Feb.
Hi, Count me in, Wife is going to Fla after Vday so I have 10 days to play, it will be fun to test out the TEC bench i am building....
Now got to find a card and learn to solder
Vcool :welcome:
I JUST SAW MY NAME POSTED ON THE FRONT PAGE, I FEEL LIKE STEVE MARTIN IN THE "JERK" WHEN HE FINALLY GOT HIS NAME INTO THE PHONEBOOK :cheer:
Hi guys
Found some info on some of the 8400GS cards availible and what ram they use

Added and welcome aboard. If you want any tips on soldering then PM me or there is a thread, or used to be a thread on the modz section.
One tip is that if you have an old dead card or motherboard first practice on that until you can solder on and off without touching anything else or pulling a leg off.
Good luck.

Andy
I'll be using Gigabyte 8400GS, 256MB (512 including TurboCache™)
It has Hynix memory.
I have figured out Vcore mod, but I cant test it, my soldering iron is 100km away, I'll have it on Saturday
WARNING: NOT TESTED!!
On the back of the card:
(removed pic)
click for uber big image, but have mercy on my bandwidth limit
there are alternate solder points on the front of the card OF WHICH I AM NOT SURE:

Let me know if it works.
Uhm arrived just now - ordered from Vancouver yesterday  . I thought it might be time for the "before pictures". It's kind of "cute". And it will never look like this again.....
This little beauty features 2.5ms Nanya chips for a massive underclock... I mean over clock.. oh hell I guess we'll see :D
Maybe a new thread for results and leave this one for discussion?
Could not wait, just ordered the Asus 8400GS Will be here tomorrow, but will bench it monday :)

I am a noob at soldering, but even I have yet to pull a leg off, the only problem I ran into was using too low of a gauge for wire, making it very large (in terms of tiny electronics), and I connected what should've been 1 wire to one resistor, to alot more than 1.
Just use 22 gauge wire, only have a little bit of wire out of the sleeving, a soldering iron with a small tip, put some solder on the tip, rub the wire until some solder rubs off of the tip and onto the wire, put a little bit more on the tip, put the wire on top of the resistor, and soldering iron on top of the wire, and you should be alright.
If you spill solder on the board, connect the wire to more than the one resistor, or anything like that, well... those are the things I don't yet know.
She's a beauty! Look at that handsome frog too  I guess I should take some before and after shots of my card too. I've decided I'm going to force my TT120 to fit on this card with a c-clamp and a plastic backplate. Going to be rough, will have to severely "mod" the TT120 :D
I'm just going to use my GPU cascade backplate along with the neoprene insulation on it. Single point of compression should do it, directly over the core. Need to go pick up a tiny C-clamp real quick, my smallest is still too big, collides with the CPU heatsink. Pictures once I have it mounted :yepp:
Andy,
Please put a CPU speed limit to it.
Nature is all GPU bound but the rest of the tests will gain from more CPU power.
I'd say 3.6GHz should be available to everyone?
I'm gonna try to get me a nice 8400GS now. :)
Why limit it? There are no prizes. If we limit CPU clocks we might as well limit GPU clocks as not all individuals will be able to modify their cards the same. I say bring what you have to the table and have fun with it.
Hi Zeus,
Welcome aboard:up:
As for cpu that is a fair point although I can give you a comparison between an Intel E4600 at 9x400 and a Wolfdale at 474x9.5. So that is 2MB cache and 3.6Ghz v 6MB cache and 4.5GHz
Car Lo = no difference
Car hi = +20%
Dragothic Lo / hi = no difference
Lobby Lo = no difference
Lobby Hi = 10% (maybe helped by FSB and mem speed as well?)
Nature = no difference.
That's really only 2 tests that show a big swing (yes the 8400GS is that bad :D) however that still was enough for an extra few hundred points or so. Negating cpu power is one reason why I suggested the 03 comp as well as 2001 so people could do that if they had an AMD 3800+ or such.
What do people think on a cpu limit?
Regards
Andy
I agree, just run what you have, I can't even hit 3.6 on the stuff I have and frankly, who cares... the twisted fun is not the scores, it's the unique way in which we each slag these puppies... I had dreams last night of a melted puddle of green goo bubbling up from the PCIE slot on my motherboard at the end of a most excellent run...
Cmon weekend....!!!
Lets keep the cpu limit away from this competition, as it does not affect the cards that much, perhabs we should see how the first results are and then decide?

Best to run these benchies on WIN2K? 01 and 03 I mean
Yeah, no need to limit any clocks.
I wanna be part of this, is that still possible?
