No it is something new and very different. We are a few generations far more advanced than Wine.

Are you planning on releasing more info on the XSOS architecture in time? Or is the plan to keep it all under wraps? Because it sounds really interesting, from a technical point of view

we plan on presenting a few of our ideas and techniques after we can prove they effectively work. Though at this time we make no promises.

I'm new to this site but I would really want to be one of the beta testers..

Gigabyte DS3
C2D E6300 1.86GHz @ 3.2GHz
2x512MB DDR2 @ 457MHz (DDR914 5-5-5-15)
7600GT 575MHz @ 649MHz
2x200GB Maxtor 6L200S0 SATA

As you can see my system is limited by RAM, with a OS like this I'll be very happy. I tried Vista and the result was under 100MB of mem left after it started.

What about the 64 bit version? the apps I use to work with eats a lot more than 2gb so 32bits would be kinda useless for me...

ho there, i cant believe i didnt pay attention to this before. i guess ill try it out, cant seem to get linux working on my alternate hd, so i guess i might as well try this.

1) I'm not teenage
2) it also used about 1/20 the ram of XP and had just about the same performance
3) XSOS 2.0 was designed for Dimers and DC and light computers, not work records (outside of SuperPI, which apparently it helps)
4) I'm not working alone, We have a small team of what I think are the best and brightest minds on earth.

Well, it would be nice if you could post a little comparo bench runs, so that pepole know if this is what they need..

Are you just looking to be ridiculously insulting, or did you have a point? People have been coming up with alternatives to windows for ages. Heck, OS2 Warp kicked the s*** out of windows back in the day. Based on the fact that the previous version of XSOS was a successful (if not ever-so-slightly slower) operating system, I think the above comments are unwarranted. XSOS is Unix using windows APIs, so it's not the same as you tweaking ME, and is a remarkable accomplishment in my books...

Take your comments elsewhere.

if you are asking to open community to help you, can't you be a little more open about this then? You know, about 10 people asked what is this based on, but have been ignored.. c'mon, is it that big of a secret? Same with other questions where you answer with Maybe, or Kind of.. Also, I'm still confused.. the screenshot says Benching OS, but you said it's really designed for crunchers? And.. who else is working on this? It would be nice to hear from them too, plus I can't see how answering these questions could hurt anything, so - thanks :D

the Honest truth is the base is a hybrid, most closely related to minix.
XSOS v1.0 was for Benchmarks
XSOS v2.0 was for Crunchers
XSOS v3.0 will be for everyone
I respect the desire of some members of the team to be silent partners.

Hardware requirements updated to reflect the addition of our new prefetch.
however you may be able to run on less memory but it'll lack alot of the speed up
