[Update 25/11] 2GB of DDR2 for overclocking what to buy

Hmm sorry to ask this once more but last time kemo helped by advising to take the corsairs (CL4) ... I tried to order them but my shop doesn't seem to be able to deliver them in weeks so they gave me a couple of alternatives.

System: E6400 on P5B deluxe
I don't want to change any WR but I would like to run 3.6Ghz 24/7 so 900Mhz would be required.

6 options in my price range they said I could get. I'm leaning towards the G.Skill HZ but the Dominators look very cool ^^
Some are definitely Micron others are doubtfull.

My understanding is that these are D9GKX. Unfortunately, they have only one stick in stock. And it doesn't appear that they have any 2 x 1GB kits. :(

Likely yes, though it's entirely possible they use D9GMH now too.

To sum it up:

Only get the Dominators if you're certain it's revision 1.x.

• PC6400C4D DOMINATOR Rev 1.1 = Micron D9GCT (B6-37E)
• PC6400C4D DOMINATOR Rev 1.2 = Micron D9GMH (B6-3)
• PC6400C4D DOMINATOR Rev 1.3 = Micron D9GMH (B6-3)
• PC6400C4D DOMINATOR Rev 2.1 = ProMOS
• PC6400C4D DOMINATOR Rev 2.2 = ProMOS
• PC6400C4D DOMINATOR Rev 3.1 = Elpida (Rev. H)
• PC6400C4D DOMINATOR Rev 4.1 = Infineon (Rev. C)

The Patriot can either be Micron D9Gxx or Elpida AG-6E-E. Not worth taking the risk in my opinion.

G.Skill 6400 PK is ProMOS.

Corsair PC6400 has a lot of revisions. Again, only revision 1.x has Micron D9.
They've used a variety of ICs throughout revs including Elpida, Infineon, ProMOS and Nanya, but the newest (7.1) has Powerchip ICs.

So in case you want to be 100% sure in getting D9Gxx that leaves you with G.Skill 6400 HZ or the Cellshock.

Then you said you just want 8X450 24/7

The G.Skill PK will get the job done

The 86 euro difference between the G.Skill and the CellShock is too much it will be better to use them in something else

r00n, I guess maybe it should be noted on the ramlist that so far only microcenter buffalo firestix 800's are elpida. Thanks for the list though! Helped me out a lot a few months ago

I don't think Buffalo would only send Elpida-based memory to MC and not to other webshops.
Despite the fact that so far they've all been from MC I'm not going to mention it on the list unless I'm 100% sure it isn't sold anywhere else.

However, I agree that most of them are D9GMH so I'll add '(some)' behind Elpida and put D9GMH at the top.

I think it's pretty shady that only Microcenter is selling the Firestix PC6400 w/ Elpida IC's... Especially when someone from Buffalo USA came on here and stated that these sticks haven't changed IC's... Microcenter is running some sketchy business if you ask me.

haha microcenter is a really big company though. You've been to the one in cambridge I'm assuming. That's the only one I've been to myself. I really doubt something underhanded is going on. But still, it's strange. If anything, it might mean buffalo is sending elpida versions to some other companies except for newegg so far.

To whoever posted a shot of the elpida buffalo, could you also post the sticker on there? Maybe there's a way to identify it.

Mine are definately Elpida and heres a shot of the sticker.

I need some advice guys. I have an E6600 and the Bad Axe 2 motherboard. I'm not trying to do any crazy overclocking, but if I could run stable at 3.2-3.6, then I'm happy. What memory do you recommend? I'm looking at 2GB

Doesn't use Micron D9 it uses promos IC but this ram is consistently hitting Micron D9 speeds (well in excess of 500mhz.)

Crucial Ballistix 667mhz 3-3-3-12

Uses Micron D9 however I think the HK is the better choice. It seems the Gskill sticks with promos are hitting higher speeds than these.

so this is a better choice than the G.Skill then? Like I said, I won't do extreme overclocking, if I can run my E6600 stable 24/7 at 3.4-3.6, then I'm good

I can't be completely sure, I've only found 2 reviews and both were in chinese. Both said D9GKX however. The review was testing the fastest ram @ 400mhz 3-3-3 timings... they did all the reviews of the ram at this speed so I didn't see any max oc's but any ram doing 3-3-3 timings @ 800mhz easily is more than likely D9... I'm gonna shoot wintec an email and see what they say.

Horatiub - You only need 400mhz FSB to achieve 3.6ghz on an E6600. You can run your ram at 400mhz so basically any PC6400 kit would do. The Gskill being $50 cheaper is a MUCH better option. The gskill kit has had only good reviews and they are all VERY recent reviews. Get the gskills, you won't be disappointed.

yeah not a new guy for sure

but i've seen a few sites and the best they can all to is around 1060 cas5 2.2v which is :banana::banana::banana::banana:house considering the ICs

Yep, G.Skill GBPK will do 450/900 at 5-5-5-15;

And a question for the group; what are Promo's??????????

I think I know their "promotional"; but what's the problem w/ them?

I hear alot about them, but I really don't hava a clue.

Actually, I believe it is ProMOS ("pro-moss", pronounced like cmos?) though I can't tell you much about the IC technically. I've been researching it a bit recently but, naturally, most discussion is about the D9s. I haven't come across much discussion of these chips.
