Folks, just relax. I didn't have the intention to ruin the thread.

I just wanted you to see this board more objectively instead of just seeing the usual "O0h th15 board r0x0rz". It is your money and if you like it don't let me get in the way.

I know that the perfect layout doesn't exist yet, but many makers are doing better layouts than this one and some people care about that too.

So, once again, just relax and buy it if you like it and if you don't care about my observations.

well at least abit could provide a reasoning for their layout. like why not group all SATA ports together? why have one port near the CPU?

just like the weird PCI port on the AB9 which render it useless for most people.

I'm still going to buy the board when it comes out but you can't deny that Abit makes weird layout choices.

cant the SATA ports be used for other devices like sata dvd drives for example i mean they do exist ..

There are TWO SiliconImage Controllers (http://www.siliconimage.com/products/product.aspx?id=32) on the AW9D - one on the bottom edge and the other located at the backpanel, that is the reason for that odd location ... you don't want to have SATA traces running all over the Board.

But complaining bout that one port next to the CPU socket is pretty senseless - fill the other 6 before ranting ;)

We need the 1333 setting to reset the clock generator to base settings from a 333fsb base..BUT we have to be able to force the NB to 1067 strap in order to keep the memory speed up.

remember the BSEL pins set the clock for the CPU, via the strap setting on the clockgenerator and the NB, as long as we can tweak them independantly we stand a chance.

just because there are 6 decently placed SATA ports doesn't mean they have to place one way out there in no man's land.

I'm probably going to buy this board but it irks me to see design decisions that you don't see in 99% of the other mobos out there.

go tony if you tweak them independantly you'll be onto a monster motherboard >>> still consulting DFI? :D would be nice if they figure it out

so any word on package contents ........ even tho its crossfire officialy does it come with an SLI bridge
i bought an ASUS 3" Flex SLI bridge off Ebay just incase this board dont have one

There isn't "one way out there in no man's land", it's paired with the eSATA connector on the real panel. Why they didn't just do 2 eSATA connectors is something I wonder, though.

God, quite honestly, ABIT is seriously coming out with....interesting "designs"... Its like japanese game shows! When they do weird.... they do...REALLY weird.

And you honestly don't need another layer to map 3 more pci slots, if u take out the useless pcix ones.

Then again, we may all kiss and praise this board later, when everyone just decides to use pcix for everything.

Abit is prolly looking to spearhead that kinda revolution, and is preparing it's boards for it.

yeah 2 esata would have been nice. Maybe some more USB ports in the back, seems like they are going to use all that space just to vent hot air.

I think price is going to be the deciding point. If it's not ridiculously priced like some of the other boards, it'll sell nicely.

Also, I have proven that this board support sli mode.

Some guys are just excited about this product, others air their frustration about layout issues, and one thing I have learned is companies use the feedback of their customers to improve their products, and services.

So, yes, in some cases whining and :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:ing can turn a good product into a brilliant one.

I am sure Abit will get at least some feedback from testers and customers re this board, bios issues, layout problems, and work to improve that.

So yes, in this case we can probably be forgiven for being impatient? As you rightly mention, only about 5 or 6 result posts...even if the tester is Coolaler, is he now above a little positive critisism?

If he cannot provide us with details about the strengths/weaknesses of this board, maybe give it to someone who will enjoy giving this feedback to 1000's out there who crave this? Someone who has the time to do these tests, as I am sure Coolaler have to much to test.

Sometimes we need a little more applicable feedback, to more normal users, eg watercooling/high-end air etc...

Not everyone has money to burn on LN2 :)

Something I already now and what I was TRYING to explain without going into detail because yes that type of discussion does not belong in this thread. This is not the only forum I am apart of and computers are not my only hobby. I know a fair deal about A/V. This is one reason why I could care less about having a slot for a PCI based sound card.

The only issue I have with the layout of this board is the 2 SATA ports located over the floppy. That just doesn't make sense to me. And why I'm at it the floppy placement is a bit odd as well...but I'm sure that means nothing to anyone and I'd probably be happier if they just did the bold thing that others won't do and remove it completely.

The number of phases are not very crucial, it's how the entire voltage regulation is implemented.
P5WD2-E only had 4 phases but could supply a Presler with enough current, even heavily overclocked.

And, as dinos22 pointed out, it's also a matter of energy losses (heat) with badly designed and/or oversized voltage circuits.

its not instock yet but it usually means it will be any day now ........ also dont let the price scare you ... ZZF always does that for some reason with a new product and then as soon as they get them in the price will drop to normal i'd guess around $240 range .......... although i would gladly buy at that price cause i just want it sooooo bad :D
