I run RHDRIBTL to stress the video cards while I stay on the desktop. Running the videocards, dual prime, and defragging the HDDs (Ups reports 395-405w load) rails dont move much at all as tested with a DMM, . I made sure when I built this new computer to retest all my rails, and readjust them as necessary. Fully loaded I sit at 12.00-12.01v, 5.01-5.02, and 3.30-3.31. God I love these PCP&C power supplies. :p:Quote:

Well got it up and running. Started it out at stock settings and trying to see how low I can take the Vcore at stock speeds.
So far 30+ min of Dual Small FFT Prime passing at 1.275 down from 1.350. Its a good starting sign if this proc likes lower vcores :D Gonna try a bump down to 1.25 and try again.
Well cant tell you actual temps. All I know is that is runs 5c cooler under load than my last one. :) (At stock vcore and settings)
EDIT: 20m Dual Small FFT Prime at 1.250 still chuggin :D
Now correct me if I'm wrong. This is my first AMD 64 system. I remember from the days gone buy, If a processor will do its stock speed at greatly reduced Vcores that normally indicates a very good chip.
Im gonna see how low I can take the vcore at stock, before I start ramping the Clock speeds.

Just picked up another Opteron 165, CCBWE 0534MPMW. It's loading the O/S now so I'll report back later. I have two others with the same stepping and they run 2.62GHz@1.52v and 2.72GHz@1.52v on air so I'm hopeful this one will do about the same. Those are 100% stable setting that run distributed computing projects 24/7/365 btw.

It looks like 2.7 won't be cutting it with mine. I think it's right above the threshhold. I'm trying for 2.6 now. Quick question. What is better 325x8=2600 or 260x10=2600?
Here's my apparent best (not counting RAM which I have to tweak) ... any thoughts on how to get higher? I've tried upping the vcore a lot (up to 1.55v). The RAM is on a low, low, low divider, obviously. I'm hoping that the 19+ hour Dual Prime95 that ran last night was enough to burn-in the core to get me up to 2.5 if not 2.6, though I doubt it.
Any thoughts?
Well at 10x260 @1.45 Prime failed in 18Min on Core 0. Ran for 2 Hours on Core 1 no problems.
I think I am going to burn it in overnight at 10x240 @ 1.35 and try again later.
hmm, 2.6 would be adaquite, but 2.7 is what I was hoping for. Keep up the good work! In the mean time, I've gotta RMA my G.Skill HZ before I can put mine to the test.
Spazilton: I'm prime stable 10X260 @ 1.48.... It takes 1.55 to get a stable 2.7, and 1.62 to suicide 2.8.... I'm just not a vcore maniac so I hang at 1.48 and forget 'bout it.:cool:

Well it seems these DFI Experts might undervolt a tad (Which I prefer actually). I dont want to set something up to actually measure the real vcore, So Im going to use the :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty onboard sensors as a reference.
Stock (Auto 1.35Bios) 1.325 (CPU-Z, Smartguardian) I could get 2.45Ghz Stable 2.475 Failed in 20 minutes.
At 1.45 (Bios) 1.425(CPU-Z, Smartguardian) I could do around 2560.
At 1.475 Bios 1.45 (CPUZ etcc...)

Nice results, I was hoping you might reach 2.7 or so though with it running 1.2V at stock mhz. I just got my Opty a week ago, but I am happy with an FX-57 for 150 bucks, and you should also be happy with basically an FX-60 for no where near the price.:woot:
And lets face it, almost 600mhz on an Athlon 64 setup is a huge jump, I would like to see guys getting 600mhz from a Pentium D on air! Not without lava flowing from your case.

Well another update. I let it burn in for 10 hours today at 2550 @1.45 Bios (1.424 CPU-z) It passed with flying colors.
Going for 2575 now at 1.45. I really do think this CPU is a winner :D
Gonna try for a quick run at 1.5 @ go for 2.7 I will not put any more than 1.55 bios through this CPU, I have a good one dont want to take the chance of ruining it. I am more than happy at 2.6 gonna shoot for 2.7 at a reasonable vcore and call it a day :)

Well my Opty 170 is harder to understand than a woman I think...... With more than one week of testing, here's the strange thing:
When I test stability with dual SP2004 (it's prime95), the core 0 is weaker than core 1. EX: 2700 mhz, 1.5V in BIOS (1.46V) core 0 fail in 13 mins and core 1 is ok for over 1 hour (did not try further).
BUT!!! If I test using SuperPi 32M, core 0 is better than core 1 !!!!!!!!!1
EX: 2800 mhz 1.5V + 113% (1.65V) core 0 is able to do 32M, but core 1 fail in 4 mins.
However, I'm ok for now with 2800mhz for playing NFSMW without problems.
I'm sticking with 2.6. I'm very happy with a 600 mhz overclock. I think my memory is bad though. Can't do the rated ddr600 speed without bluescreens. I think I'm going to try and rma it. I'm currently working on reducing my voltage and going for a 24hr prime for the processor. Was at 1.5, going for 1.425. I already know 1.4 won't cut it. It's a shame that this thing doesn't like more volts. Even at 1.6v I wasn't stable at 2.7 :(
Charloz24, it sounds like it might be your memory timings holding you back, not your CPU. You should try testing at 2T once just for kicks. If you can pass, then it's a matter of figuring out how to make your RAM play nice with your Opteron.

Core 0 is stable at about 2.85GHz but Core 1 fails everything over 2.7GHz, I have tried up to 1.65V on the CPU. Now I am running 2.7GHz with 1.5V ( 1.55V in BIOS ) With 1.55V Core 0 is stable some hours, higher voltage doesnt help.

BTW, look at my 12V, this is los 11.58V, this SS is while dualpriming, it goes down from 11.77V to 11.58 while dual priming. And the 3.3V isn't quite 3.3V either, do these affect my OC abilities ?
i cant get my 0543TPMW stable at 2800 for the life of me. I am now on high end watercooling, and even 1.6vcore wasnt enough. One crappy core always failed after about 10 minutes... I aint going any higher since i bought a digital multimeter today and tested it. Although reading 1.49 in smart guardian, its truly 1.51, and under dual prime95 it jumps to 1.54 instantly. Smartguardian is NOT accurate at all, and neither is the bios...

Well after doing some burn-in and just using this 180 for a while I think I've found its max stable oc, I might try and squeeze a bit more out of it however, I think I can get it 2750 and possibly 2800 stable @ 1.7 vcore, it just runs a wee bit warm at those temps which I don't like.

2700 @ 1.52V is quite worse for 180 Opteron. Maybe temperature is holding you back? Btw SP2004 is crap - use two instances of Prime 24.13 or 24.14.

Well here's my results with a 0534 SPMW 165. No proof of stability here but it's running great, 32hrs of prime and lots of games :) This is with 1.475 set in BIOS, I'm really hoping to lower it to 1.45

Well, after more burning and tweaking, I'm now running reliably (dual prime large and small fft, memtest, FEAR, 3dmark05) at:
2.75Ghz @ 1.55V and 49*C
2.77 is not totally stable, so I think I will just avoid 2.76 as well. Maybe with more burning, 2.77Ghz can run dual prime for about 5 minutes.
3.05ghz dual prime stable @ 1.65 actual dmm v-core reading on A8R MVP. Not sure I want to play with more volt now... I will probably look at what screenies I can get now.

No overclocking for me. 1 core errors out of Prime in less than a minute if both are running. Going to do some more testing but I think it's DOA. :(

I've got a lot of burning in to do on my 175, there's like a 200mhz stability difference between cores... core 1 can OC way higher with less volts while core 0 needs high volts just to make it to 2.6ghz...
Nice X2 4800+ there but it's like twice the price of opteron 170 here in OZ hehe

In general, have the 170's or the 165's been clocking better? I have been eyeing a 165 from zipzoomfly or a 170 for mwave for about a week and I am very torn between the two. Any suggestions?
I just bought a 180 so I'm not anti-dc however your video card makes more of a difference then MHz or dc ever will when it comes to 3d. Yes, I know the dc drivers are alot better now but video cards rule.Quote:

Another Update on my 0546SPMW. I started to suspect that heat was hindering the OC on my chip. So I opened the side panel and replaced my Medium Speed Panaflow 92mm on my XP-90 with a Tornado. Lowered my CPU temps arouynd 7c , PWMIC temps around 5c and Chipset temps around 7c.
With this I got the chip at 1.520 to 2738Mhz Dual Small FFT prime stable. Not going to leave it like this, however I am going to move to water cooling now. Probally can squeeze 2800 out of this chip :)

are the overclocks that people are getting going down? I was really bumed out with my opty 165 0534 because it only did 2700 while the 0530 did 2900+
outside of the 0530, what is the next best? Anything new come out lately that has clocked well?
People that had that stepping 0534 on the 165 where getting near 2900.
On my 170 with 0534 stepping I could barely do 2750.
165 is little better on that stepping from what i've seen here.
How much voltage are you using?
