Suit yourself.
Next 2 weeks my Extreme6 will be here, so i subcribe this thread to follow all news :D
!st Question: Do TRUE Black fits on this board? Im not sure for that pipes and cooling system of Extreme6.
thank you i found it on the asrock support/tech forum....anyone using a hyper 212 plus? i mounted my 9500 zalman and on the back of this board is that plate holding the cpu mount in and im not too comfortable with the way its on there so im looking for a good cooler that will do a good job as well as fit in my antec 900 case.
xtreme6 are others where bios 1.6 teases by oc
bios 1.6 is unstable at high overclock here
so i downloaded and extracted to a flash drive from here:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=P67 Extreme4&o=BIOS
hit f6 during boot up (double boot btw) and it just bypasses the screen and windows starts up...? please help
ok i got it to go into the flash utility screen (instant flash) but it doesnt recognize the flash drive
flashed bios now it starts to boot to the windows log and gets a quick blue screen and reboots itself...this after i just flashed to 1.6
sorry but couldn't find this anywhere
the debug led in the extreme 4 or 6 show the cpu temperature after post? or just stay AA?
thanks
Ughhhhh!!!!!! :slapass: Not good regarding the 1.61 & overclock stability!!
Comparing 1.6A to 1.6, how does overclock stability compare between those two?
Thanks for the insight! Sounds like 1.6A & be done! The saved profiles aren't that big of a deal. However, I have been able to force post by depressing the onboard reset button and the delete key at the same time.
had to reinstall windows again! wow what a quirky board, been building computers for a long time always used asus and never a glitch...anyways i dont c 1.6a on the list of bios updates...anyone have a link to it?
hey sailindawg...funny emoicon u got there. btw i tried flashin back to 1.5 and when i enter instant flash it doesnt recognize the flash drive...when i looked at the files it had like 4 files in there unlike 1.6 which just had the bios file....weird.
not really havin an issue now..i got my overclock stable at 4.5 with 2 clicks of the mouse. im happy with that, may push more after i get my hyper 212+ installed. but after freaking out last night because my system blue screened right after i updated to 1.6 i was worried..why i had to reinstall win 7 64 bit i dont know. anyways it is running great so far and love the setup i have and i have this thread to thank for my choice of boards...i strayed from asus because if u look at the boards they offer ...this one is comparible to them all and has a better lay out as far as memory slots not being too close to the cpu so an aftermarket cooler would hit unless its low profile ram and the upper pci-e slot being blocked as well. i have noticed there are some straight up gurus here and am thankful for all the info :)
Z68 is coming.
You can download Z68 Extreme4 manual from:
ftp://174.142.97.10/manual/Z68%20Extreme4.pdf
The strange thing: lack of electrical SPDif Output (only optical) and no appropriate header on-board. Why not the other way?
Good things:
Virtu d-Mode is supported which means you can hook your lcd to discrete card and get Intel transcoding at the same time. It seams Asrock bought the right license version.
I agree. DVI-I to VGA (D-SUB) can be converted passively. DVI-I and DVI-D shares the same connector. Display port to HDMI can be converted passively. Two connectors (DVI-I and HDMI) should be sufficient without feature compromised (Intel graphic supports up to 2 screens simultaneously).
Instead we are losing precious space.
This is getting annoying. My PC (Asrock P67 Extreme4) is not able to install drivers for TL-WN350GD (PCI WIFI card). It is getting detected but the motherboard is unable to identify it to install the drivers. The OS is Windows 7 32bit. Can someone help?
It seems that I am not alone with this problem:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum....cfm?t=1658772
Edit: Solved by enabling PLL Overvoltage in UEFI. :yepp::rofl:
reached 4.7 no voltage increase...why is my cpu going from 4.7 to 1600 when under no load? should i keep it like that or not? if not how do i stop it?
ok thx
Agreed. These are energy saving features implemented by Intel (AMD has very similar things as well). Unless these power reduction options are significantly holding your overclock back (which they don't appear to be), why pay for extra electricity to have the "System Idle Process" blasting away at 4.7GHz non-stop... :yepp:
the true black can be fitted onto the mb... since it support LGA775 hole .... but if you are using the older bolt & backplate for the LGA775 ... u might facing some difficult installing the blackplate. due to the processor backplate itself might prevent the cpu backplate to be install correctly.
suggest get the LGA1156 bolt-thru-kit for easier install blackplate onto the back of the motherboard without any problems. this kit support TX , ultra 120 , true black ..
ps..
asrock website had updated with the Z68 extreme 4 and Z68 Pro3 ...
Assuming that TRUE black is TRUE but only black :)
I'e tried with LGA775 kit and ended up with boxed cooler for a weekend till I got the 1156/1155 mounting kit. So getting one is necessary unless already owned.
Okay, so I'm thinking I'm going to pick up the Extreme4 as it sounds rock solid, and I have a couple of questions.
1. I'm leaning towards 2500k. Is the 2600k worth an extra 40%?
2. What RAM to get. I'm coming from 4x1GB. I was kind of thinking about 2x4GB to get the extra RAM now and have room to upgrade later (if ever). But I see most of the pros going with 2x2GB. Which sticks are good price/performance winners? I see a bunch of the 1600 Ripjaws. Any specific sets?
Thanks.
Get the 2600K if you are doing a lot of 3d rendering, video editing/encoding etc.
If you are mainly using for games and stuff.... go for 2500k higher GHz.
2x4 is your choice!!!!
later 4x4!!!
I appreciate your reply.
I don't do any 3d rendering. Right now the toughest it's gonna have to deal with is Starcraft II, later Battlefield 3. So, it sounds like the 2500k is plenty good for my needs.
As for the 2x4, any specific sets, say on newegg, you recommend?
Corsair vengeance 2x4 1600CL8 or CL9 or 1866CL9
Cheap and good!

thats what i bought..awesome ram
Did you even bother to read the thread????
A number of people are having issues with diffreent RAID cards in P/H67 AsRock boards. Which oh by the way it seems that AsRock now has some beta Bios that fixes some of the issues, but not all.
This is a firmware or chipset issue. Not a RAID card issue.
Dear Vidmo;
Unfortunately the model you described below does not support any controller card in the PCIexpress. Code 92 comes out when can not find any boot device .

Motherboard won't post with the LSI card installed
»Problem Description
I've just purchased this H67M-GE to use in my server along with an LSI 9261 SATA Raid card. When the LSI card is plugged into the 16x slot the motherboard won't post. It displays the Intel ME listing and the number "92" on the bottom right and goes no further.
I've tried disabling all non-essential devices like Serial, Parallel, and Audio. But it has not helped.

ahh...the one on the front side of the board....dude how in the world did u learn all this info, what are u some sort of hardware/software guru/genius? sorry im new here and dont know ur history and have only read things in ur posts that were things only a computer science major would know...anyways thanks ket...and its obvious this is ur home
I have a near identic memory and have worked with computers since I was 6 ;) I've also studied programming and as good as rebuilt Stalker SoC bringing back almost everything GSC promised but never delivered, done some work for Mushkin, unofficially helping Asrock (which I'm still waiting on some form of official thank you at least btw Asrock), the list goes on and on really. Does that mean I'm smart or a genius? I'd say I know enough and let other people make their own decision
Finally a beta zone and a beta bios for P67 PRO3 too.
It was time for Asrock to do this.
I supose that this bios will allow 1.7v core for P67 PRO3 too.
Here is the download page: http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?Model=P67%20Pro3
New bios for P67 Extreme 6 too :
http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?Model=P67%20Extreme6
Waiting for the "Modify CPU ratio real-time adjustment in OS" option that can be find in 1.80 Fatal1ty BIOS though ...Quote:
Update USB code.
lol fair enough ket
what are we waiting for E4 as for a bios functions?!
I would prefer more steps in voltages for VCCSA.
In Asrock's tuning utility (AXTU) from 0.925V the next step is 1.016V.
It would be nice if Asrock could add intermediate steps for fine tuning.
Is it possible to add more steps for VCCSA as other vendors have, or is this limited by the hardware?
VCCSA shouldn't be taken over around the 1v mark anyway so 1st step is the only step you really need.
Depending on the OC higher VCCSA may help, but you are probably going to have the chip deteriorate on you as a result.
Found this on Asrock beta area: http://www.asrock.com/mb/beta.asp?Model=P67%20Extreme4
O rly?
Old news!
Sitting with 1.6A here and I have no intention on moving from it until Asrock sort out the OC stability issue thats cropped up since 1.61. No UEFI past 1.6A is stable when the system is OCd. You will get random application crashes with settings that were 100% stable with 1.6A. In my case I'd get random crashes with oblivion and mass effect @ 4.6GHz, flashed back to UEFI 1.6A, no problem.
So 1.6c 1.61 1.62 1.64a All unstable ?
I don't confirm that.
I disagree as well. Take what he says with a grain of salt. My OC is 100% stable on UEFI 1.62 at 4.7 GHz.
Mine too
2600k 4.7 @1.36v Stable
but at 4.8 it needs 1.408v. when it falls to 1.392 it gets 101BSOD and some times it's making 3h LinX and sometimes it crashes down. No matter what voltage I'm pumping it's not there. I think the temps are the problem here - around 85!
5GHz @1.44 - but i need to cool it with water soon!
best bios to Xtreme6 ? to xtreme overclock ??
my old I7 2600k CPU could x54 blck stable in all 3Dmark
I been lucky enough to find someone who can x57 blck, but when I go over x54blck
is my motherboard very unstable
I use watercooling
whit bios 1.33 I could reach 1.575vcore, but virtually every bios since I've had to raise Vcore to 1.635v to reach the same score whit x54
can it may be the motherboard will not play with, or is it bios???
idel temp is 29/31c an load max62c whit x54blck
I came home from work, and turned on pc which was in sleep mode, and now it won't turn on. The led codes flash between different numbers, then powers off and repeats infinity times. I have tried a proper cmos clear, and disconnected all hardware with no luck? Is the mobo screwed??? I am using the P67 Extreme4, 4 gig 2133 RipJaws, and an OCZ SSD. Please help.
Yeah same every day....
Just turn it off
Unplug Clear CMOS
plug and start
f2>Default>f10>f2>clock or start defaults
Why sleep mode if you have an ssd? You're maybe saving what 10secs??
What you should be doing is logging out and letting trim tidy up the SSD.
Sleep mode is notoriously bad with overclocks past 4.6 on SandyB and also on SSDs without latest firmware RAID/ACHI drivers.
I finally got it to boot, but I had to move my ram from the white slots to the blue slots. EDIT* Put ram back in white slots, now running ok. Not sure what happened.
As already said sleep mode doesn't work good with high OCs, and this is a problem intel are aware of and still working on a fix AFAIK. Personally I don't use sleep just turn the PC off. Only takes about 8 seconds to boot to windows anyway for me.
i didnt mess with pll i just upped the cpu ratio to 47...no voltage mod needed anywhere and im as stable as can be with 1.61
BTW that new beta bios atleast for extreme 6 is garbage i installed it set my oc settings like normal and it was giving me 0d error which from what i read in manual is cpu initialization error which cant be healthy lol so i changed back to 1.52 for extreme 6 and everything is perfect sooo somthing tells me theres somthing wrong with the new beta bios Also it wasnt letting me change values for power limits n such i would go to type in 250 and it would auto type 60 dunno was kinda worried for a min till i installed 1.52 and everything works as it should really strange
if ur system is running smooth why update the bios? its always been my belief that if its not broke dont "fix" it...leave it alone. lets say a new bios came out that enabled ur board to accept a better cpu or resolved stability issues u are having then i can see updating. dont update because theres a new one and especially a bios that in a beta stage.
Your opin honestly I do it so i can see if they changed what they changed if it works so on so forth... im not an idiot and unless my power goes out and even then it might not mess up the firmware updating.. so i ask you why not use new bios even if yours is stable what if there is somthing wrong with that bios that needs to be updated to work prop your telling me you arnt gonna update cause everything is working..... give me a break
I think the more valid argument is if everything is working fine for you.. no need to update. Sometimes a firmware update is just worth doing though to avoid potential compatibility problems such as if you plan on dumping in a new CPU, or in the case of the Extreme4 simply updating to fix outstanding bugs. Theres nothing wrong with beta UEFIs from Asrock either, they tend to be very good and in most cases better than whats offered as a final release.
first of all i apologize if u took offense to what i said...didnt mean it like that and u took it out of context. did i even insinuate u being an idiot,in fact i was only giving u sound advice...how long have u been building systems? ive been doing it over 10 years...so im going to reiterate...if ur system is running smooth there is no need to update the bios,if u r having issues and the new bios addresses the very issue u r having then by all means...please dont get an attitude with me i didnt have one with u.
Yesterday I attempted to update my SSD firmware, which at first failed due to not having SMART enabled. I've never been able to boot with any OC greater than 4.4 on my Extreme4, however, after enabling SMART, I was able to boot straight to 4.5, which is where I'll stay, with only stock cooling. Does that make sense (re SMART)?
My bad had a really bad day yesterday...And I dont think i read your post correctly so im sorry for not reading it. I have been workin and building computers for 10 yrs as well. But honestly 10 yrs isnt that long andi am not claiming to know all. And your right if everything is workin then why update but i always like to see what they have been working on and so on... Honestly asrock as done poorly with the extreme 6 in my exp with it
Extreme 6 works really well from my side. A very good card for the price :yepp:
Everybody finished with with their handbags? Good.
;) ok good...as i dont want any conflicts here,i come here to get knowledge and at the same time shed some as well...thx bro
*looks in handbag...no more toys!
how many have used turbo voltsett, I just did it for the first time.
and could run my cpu at low Vcore.
low
exact settings ?
So, now I have an Intel Xeon E3-1230 running on my Extreme4 without any problems and with prompt identitification of the CPU at Bios start
I'm running the Additional Turbo Voltage at 0.23 V with a Vcore setting of 1.375. I found that it helped maintain stability. I have not tried lowering the Vcore voltage and then tried to compensate with the Additional Turbo Voltage to achieve the same voltage at stress. I have wanted to try overclocking using just voltage offsets, but have not had the time to play around with it. I'm currently running my 2600K on my test bench at 4.6 GHz with RAM @ 2137. I'm on air cooling using a Big Typhoon :D, recycled cooler I've had since my AMD days. I want to get this chip on my water cooling loop as I have time.
Extreme 6 - BIOS P1.60
2600K - L042B074
Offset mode +0.95 - LLC4
4800MHz - No PLL Overvoltage
1.06v idle - 1.32v semi load - 1.37v full load
That's great settings! I just set my 2600k & Extreme4 back to stock settings to try using voltage offset. I'd like to see how I can do.
EDIT:
So far at 105X40 using voltage offset of 0.25V VCore. Idle is silly at 1.05V or there about. Halfway through a Linx run (20 iterations). Max CPU temp=65C Ave = 55-57C across all 4 cores. PLL Over Voltage is off. All else at stock settings, but all voltages are set in BIOS rather than
on auto. RAM @ auto, defaults to 999, 1600.
Ugh... I really shouldn't be reading tech stuff after the night out I had. But what else is there to do when recovering?
Have anyone experienced a minor graphic bug during BIOS post? I got my hands on an extreme4 (1.6 shipped) and it seems it change the resolution itself randomly. The resolution will down to like 640x480 after restart and texts get really blurry. Is there any way to adjust the resolution or fix this problem? Thanks in advance
thats strange....i have 1.61 and its stable as can br...sorry
I'm with E4 1.62 24/7stable at4.7GHz
soon will be upgrading the cooling system!
No graphical problem like that here. Sounds like a monitor related problem. Tried a factory recall and a different cable?
I have perception that the pace of publication BIOS updates recently has slowed. I hope that the constructions on the P67 has not been abandoned in favor of new models based on the Z68 chipset.
I understand your point of view Radier I'm running the 1.6 ship BIOS. I'm running a very simple, minimal hardware setup at the moment, but outside of the double post when overclocking, the 1.6 ship BIOS seems pretty stable. I'd like to see more features added like being able to adjust multis & full RAM settings/timings from within the operating system environment using their tweak program. But the basic stability seems good. I'm not seeing anything that's real buggy or not working. Clocking these CPUs is more CPU dependent than board dependent. Either the CPU will scale with voltage or just clock very high with lower voltage. Unfortunately, my stepping scales with voltage.
AFAIK, theres really not any problems worth speaking of with the Extreme4 now so I wouldn't expect UEFI updates beyond firmware updates for on-board hardware or CPU ID table updates.
1.70 for Extreme4 is on the way but I dunno when.
Apart from problems associated with Extreme 4 (which mostly are gone) I am little worried about Pro3 users still suffering from dualboot or disappering LLC option when using offset mode.
I really wish for every ASRock P67 user to have polished UEFI on their mobo.
BR,
If you want that, try asking Asrock to send me any boards that need attention and I'll run the same fine-toothed comb over them as I have with the Extreme4. Otherwise my part is done really.
Guess what mb is coming now...
Fatal1ty for the budget
It doesn't suport SLI but it looks damn nice.
I hope that it's at a price a little under Extreme 4 or equal.
I don't need SLI.
