I think sleep mode has always been borked in Vista 64, anyway here is an update, passed prime blend for a bit and memtest, seems stable

P1, P2 Enabled ... only little VCore ...
But i cannot to break 450MHz, at 460MHz is not stble at any settings ... is there a newest BIOS then 0511 (0512)?
A few tests...

I am about to buy a 790I Board is the EVGA a better options then the S2e ? Also is there a NB Block that works with the 790I if I go with eVGA?
A lot of guys have used ViperJohn's waterblocks. Check Evga 790i forums for testimonials on his waterblocks.
http://imageevent.com/marginjohn/viperjohn
I emailed Viperjohn already waiting on reply. so does that mean EVGA is the better way to go? Its going to cost about the same if I go EVGA and get the Viperjohn blocks? The reason I liked the ASUS is because it has the wb on the NB already
Thanks!
E.R
will these block fit?
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=23411
they claim 780i
Donīt think so and you donīt have 2 chips to cool either with the NB-block, EK-NB/SB 5 is what is listed on EK-site to fit referece EVGA/XFX 790i,
Here are the list they got.
Im sure the NB/SB5 will hit US to as some german store has listed that now as in stock if EK-store is not the first choise.
I am not sure what to get EVGA 790 or S2E
what do you recommend?
Since you are talking about watercooling the NB, Mosfets, SB...I would suggest the SIIE because I am not using the fusion block and I get 43C on the SB at 1.55V and 44C on the NB at 1.45V. Economically, Watercooling the motherboard is not needed with the temps that I am getting. I own the SIIE and Love it. I cannot give a fair recommendation for the Reference boards because I do not have any experience with them.
If we are talking about a 680i board or a 780i board then lets talk about watercooling the NB, SB, and voltage regulators. :D
I canīt recommend anything as i just ordered a EVGA 790i but not recieved it yet as the shop will have it in the end of april and the memory i choosen around friday as the 2x2 non EB i want is order-only items and the 2x2 EB:s are stock items and 90 more.
Main reson for chosing reference design was the things i read about 790i and the new P04 BIOS did not change my opinion or helped the SIIE along with tons of reviews to the left and right.
SIIE has also EPU and what i notised on my Maxiumus and read om asus forum the same thing is still present on SIIE as i think GAR was the first one to se or put attention on when you canīt load CPU 100% and that prevents the OC.
LLC that keeps v-core stable is a plus for SIIE but not a major point for me.
The price i got was the thing that turned me over to press buy-button on EVGA along with the BIOS support.
I donīt know if it was the right one but it feels like not having EPU is more worth than LLC and extern lcd-poster with R.O.G label on it.
I just Ordered the Striker2 Extreme with 4gig of OCZ 1600EB RAM
hope I didnt just make a mistake
You will like it and I would start with BIOS 0511, then jump to 0601 or higher. I have not had any problems with mine. Just find guys using your setup CPU, Memory, etc. and follow there progress. I just picked up my QX9650 about 15-minutes ago. I am trying to think of a way to take out my old Q6600 without twisting the N/B water block tubing or move it around to much to loosen the barbs. I had this happen to me when I first got into water cooling with my 2 7800GTX got water log by moving stuff around and the barbs came loose and then I kissed goodbye about $1K of GPU's :explode2: So I will be back soon with it installed...
What do you guys think of the upcoming OCZ 2000Mhz DDR3 Memory EB edition? They are EPP 2.0 certified and when paired with ASUS, they work at 9-8-8-18
Do they sound good?
What is the best TEMP readings monitor out there for the S2E? I have been using Core Temps 0.98 and Real Temp 2.41. But both are off huge is degrees?
Thanks...

OK ive about had it, i get random crashing while playing games, im about to go to frys and pick up a DX48BT for $250 and sell this POS. Even when this damn system passes OCCT, PRIME Blend/small, and memtest, WHAT THE F***!!!! a premium POS this board is.....nVidia chipsets never again.
Chill GAR,
You and many others are having the same problem, I did have it but I solved it with some methodical GTL + VTT(FSBV) adjustments. Go dig around the EVGA Forums and check the last page of the 790i corruption thread here for starters. Takes some patience but its the only way to beat the issue.
Since when has PRIME/OCCT/Orthos been the sole measure of a systems stability... I know it's how most people test but not me, I have to engineer 24/7 commercially warrantiable OCs and I ALWAYS do testing with Video decoding and other things to stress FSB under smaller loads aswell.
I just tried setting the GTL to +25 and FSB from 1.3-1.45 all failed with no success, im about to give up, even tho i dont want to, im really dissapointed at this.
Every chip is different, yours is quite different being 45nm n all.
I use 1.20VTT & +25mv for all GTL lanes @ 444FSB, no "hangs" in over a week or ever at these settings.
I saw some others had success w/45nm using +15mv for their GTLs so I would start there. +15 - +25mv for all your lanes w/ VTT set as low as it'll go for you, 1.1V i think right?.. if it hangs goto 1.15VTT and 1.20VTT.
You can test stability with any 1080P H264 content you may have or HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Rips.
Just relax though m8, the problem is fixable with just abit of tweaking and patience.
Bump on the question above
MMmm where to start? For starters when I had my Q6600 GO chip in the S2E I had no problems pushing a FSB @ 1800 @ a 2:1 ratio with my memory. Or even a 1700FSB, 2:1 as well using BIOS 0511. Now I throw in my QX9650 and I am getting freaking memory dumps like crazy. I can not even stay stable at any settings? I am back stock for now.. Just wondering why is this happening to a 1K CPU and not my $200.00 CPU? I have a idea for ASUS why don't they PAY US to work out all of there kinks on the S2E and give us our boards for FREE. Note to self never ever buy a new mobo with a new chipset, if so plan on being the ginnie pig with many headaches..
it doesn't help the 790i chipset plagued by untuned GTLREFs that the C0 stepping 45nm quads have a GTL related errata which hampers OC'ability in the first place.
Hmm, everything looks absolutely stable here, I am satisfied completely.
I had the same issues with OCZ memory (DDR-3 12800 Platinum, not EB) before, couldn't even run it at the stock settings and was about to give up, like you do.
Everything became to be much better with the memory replacement and now it is fine with 04 BIOS.
In your case it also can be a memory hole - I am getting such things at 400 MHz and 450MHz exact numbers somehow ...

HELP
Hi there,
I have drastically improved stability of my s2e. I installed Vista 64bit SP1 a week ago, and no corruption so far (I test every day).
I use the following bios settings:
fsb qdr ddr at 1800 linked & synched
CPU multi x8 (3.6 GHz)
RAM timings 8-7-6-20 2T P1/P2: enabled
Voltages:
Vcore 1.325V in bios
LLC enabled
PLL auto
VTT 1.44V
VDimm 2.0V
NB 1.66V
SB 1.6V
the rest is on auto.
Prime95 & memtest86+ are stable for 10+ hours.
I had very frequent lockups in vista while playing games or just idling on the desktop after 1-2 hours of up time.
I changed my RAM from 1T to 2T, and it really helped a whole lot.
Now I still get lockups, but it's very rare and hard to reproduce... Usually I get it when there is a joint stressed activity of HDD, CPU & RAM.
It can happen sometimes when loading a level in a game, for instance crysis or company of heroes, in the middle of the progress bar when all textures and stuff are loaded.
Do you guys have any clue what I could test?
I have the feeling the freeze can only occur if there is a lot of disk activity. It does not happen during video playback or within a game like it is the case for others.
What would you suggest:
- increase SB voltage: 1.65 or 1.7
- increase frequency for PCI-e and MCP<->SPP
- loosen the ram timing further
- play with VTT volts and GTL REF
Please help !
GAR, are you having those issues at stock speed? or oced?
I think GAR is having those issues when OC @ 450mhz FSB, and I also think he should keep his settings at stock for the time being.
Wow, is almost end of april and I gotta decide what board Im gonna end up getting... I dont want to deal with corruptions, BSoDs and lock ups.
450FSB, but this to me is more related to the memory controller on the NB, its got some weird holes........also high fsb around 463, with mem at 925 corrupted my steam, i had to reinstall everything.....the corruption is still there and i dont feel safe doing anything on this board knowing that it may give out at anytime.......one day my settings were good, and next day they were bad so im confused with this board at this time.
I love my S2E. It tunes all your settings.
Running bios 0601 I can hit 4000 MHZ no problem on all auto, just 10 multi and 400 fsb and it's behaving well!
0601.bin got removed from Asus' ftp. Interesting.
Im about to place order on the RAM FOr SIIE. Is that true only the black Slot support 1800+. So i need to order 2x2G instead of 4 sticks?
Option
1) OCZ - 4GB OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Platinum EB XTC (7-6-6)
2) G.Skill - 4GB G.Skill HZ Series DDR3 CL7-7-7-18
3) Patriot - Viper 4GB PVS34G1600LLK CL7-7-7-20
4) Corsair - XMS3 DHX 4GB DDR3 1600 TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX
Starting to think I should have order this board.. maybe I need to cancel my order, and get Asus X48 mobo
Don't forget I lost my first 0601 bios, it failed install & I had to RMA board.
I'm not the only one that failed loading 0601, I almost lost the 3rd board to it again, got lucky on that one...
I'm still testing 0601 but I'm not sure if it's as good as 0507.
I will keep it updated for sure...
I hope by the time I have my money ready, all this problems are solved.
BTW, I have the same question as QuadSLI, are the black slots the only ones that can run higher than 1600mhz FSB???
Because I just got 2Gbs RAM kit and I would like to go to 4 gigs one day...
Anybody knows when the DFI and Foxconn will release their 790i boards?
Do you guys think X-FI and 4gb of memory has something to do with this???? im going to try it when i get home from work.
I think the issues of the x-fi w/4 gig were long ago resolved...
NVIDIA was made aware of a possible corruption issue reported by Anandtech. NVIDIA has been in contact with Anandtech and is aggressively pursuing any possible causes including extreme FSB overclocking along with certain types of high speed memory. According to all data collected thus far this appears to be a highly isolated issue. This article will be updated as needed if any issues are isolated.
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/n...p?p_faqid=2166
You're going to have trouble on any board when you overclock 4 sticks of ram to 2000 mhz. I know the striker 2 extreme's slots are all 4 high bandwidth (meaning all 4 can do ddr3 2000). Whether you wanna call their bluff or not is up to you. It seems nvidia's product specifications are statements that are meant to be challenged to see if they're bluffing.
MSI is also advertising 4 slots ddr3 2000, wish they'd bring it to market.
No, it will require just the SPD/EPP values. It's the stress on the controller and if it can handle that speed for all 4 sticks. With a striker I bet it'll be okay because this thing is tough (It's 100 more for a reason, not just a "rebadge") as nails. You shouldn't even bother with 2000 mhz stuff anyways man because it's just massively overclocked 1333 with compromised Latencies.
I know, Im not buying 2000Mhz memories, is just that I might want to try to OC them to those speeds just to test them :P
You'll be able to hit them, very likely. Just don't expect prime stability lol.
Oh well -.-"
Hey man, you push hardware THAT hard sometimes you ask for it. Personally I think the striker extreme is a tough mother:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::ban ana:, and it probably will work because DDR3 uses low volts.
Well yeah my goal is to have my 1600Mhz RAM to run at 1800 since I will have my FSB at 450Mhz (hopefully), but might want to try how it feels to run it at 2000mhz :D
OK Guys(and gals), I am getting somewhere here. I found out that my Qx9650 can do 4GHZ @ 1.344V(1.375 BIOS with LLC) vcore. The stability problems that I was having(With the system lockup) seems to be RAM related. I am currently running RAM @ 1780 1:2 @2.04V. Passed prime for about an hour now.
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/7...rimeol6.th.jpg
I also tried 410x10, but it required 1.408V(1.425V BIOS with LLC) vcore.
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/4...5041vd4.th.jpg
@GAR, try 2.04V for your RAM. It could be your RAM or it could be because of the PCIE overclocking, try lowering your PCIE frequency(I believe it was @ 125).
ALso, I don't understand how the tjunction could be greater than core temps. I think everest is reading it wrong or soemthing.
Once I am done priming, I intend to run 3dmark06 in a loop for testing
3D stability. I will post back the results.
The thread has been inactive in the last 2 days. Did everybody give up their boards already? :P
Nope.
But I'm doing some stuff that need to be done in a day or two :D
I guess I spoke too soon.(Goes and sits in a corner). :D . I left it to prime when I slept and sure enough woke up to find out the system was frozen. . Now, I have dropped my VTT to 1.2 per 5010. Let's see how it goes.
Have you guys read about the upcoming 790i FTW? Sounds promising...
highly isolated issue... sure...
50% of the people that voted here have corruption issues, and this isnt about xtreme fsb and memory ocing... we are talking about 400 and 450fsb and 1600 and 1800 mem speeds here...
Broly, it IS possible to get 500fsb+ and 2000mem speed+ stable on 790, it just doesnt work on all boards and seems to be very tricky to tweak, while on x48 its easier. after all nvidia advertises the 790 as THE enthusiast chipset which can reach higher fsb and mem speeds than other chipsets... but all the sudden it turns out most of the chipsets actually oc worse than intel chipsets, and even the best ones nvidia can churn out are at best, as good as intel x48 chipsets or maybe slightly better, depending on the clock speeds your running.
and now nvidia is saying its an isolated issue with extreme overclocking?
doesnt nvidia say 790 officially supports ddr3 2000?
that was the main selling/marketing point from what i remember...
so now officially the max is 1333fsb with 1333 mem and 1600fsb with 1600 mem is already extreme overclocking?
Lets see another one post about the nf790i chipset problems and what nvidia answer to us......
Nvidia released a brief announcement admitting that its latest nForce 790i
chipset for Intel CPUs cause data corruption under overclocking conditions.
The problem was reported by many enthusiasts that tried to overclock a 790i-based system
by changing the processor system bus (PSB) as well as the memory clock speeds.
Reports indicated that this procedure could lead to data corruption on hard disk drives.
"Nvidia has received reports of data corruption when using certain high speed memory and overclocking
the front side bus," Nvidia admitted. "Our engineers are currently investigating
this issue and as soon as we have more information, we will provide an update," the company said.
Apparently, Nvidia is preparing a new BIOS update to fix the problems related to the most
expensive chipset around.
Consumers had also experienced similar issues in the past caused by the Nvidia nForce 4 based
motherboards.
Nvidia's 790i platform is designed for current and next-generation Intel CPUs,
including those that support a 1600MHz frontside bus (FSB). It supports DDR3 memory,
PCI Express Gen 2.0, and the new Enthusiast System Architecture (ESA) communications protocol
for the real-time monitoring and control of PC components. The nForce 790i Ultra SLI MCP
is also certified to run 2-Way, 3-Way, and Quad SLI GPU configurations.

I got another S2E and no corruptions problems anymore. But I can't get any stable oc on this thing. I've played around w/ all voltages and all I get is fail on Prime in less then 1 min and BSOD, every single time for the past 4 days no matter what fsb set. My Q6600 did 400x9 or 450x8 on P35, X38 and 780i before without a sweat but this is ridiculous. And to keep it worse, after reading this forum carefully for the past 2 weeks, I'll probably get random freeze if I finally get it running.
Same thing here on my board. I had Q6600 no problems at 1800/FSB @ 1.48v and now with my new QX9650 I can do anything after 1 minute into windows it resets... Same BIOS the whole time as well (0511). One thing I noticed is when I put in the CPU Vcore at 1.41250v it shows up on CPUZ at 1.5V and same on EVEREST. So I am thinking I may have a bad CPU mount... Planning on remounting..
Did the remounting fix your problems or didn't help the voltage problem?
Same thing. I just installed my brand new E8400 to make sure it's not the CPU. It's even worse, my OCZ memory can't keep up and when it does I get BSOD. I'm pretty sure it's the mobo since a lot of people are very happy w/ this ram. I give up, DFI X48 here I come!!!
Agreed....
What ever settings I put now with my new QX9650 nothing but blue screens over and over after I enter windows after 1-minute. RMA Monday if this BIOS 0601 does not fix my problem with this board... :shakes:
And after remount still very off in CPU Vcore settings... I put 1.4v this time still reads 1.5v in CPUZ/EVEREST
I get my S2E with X3350 yesterday :D
So far so good, hadn't time to play with it too much yet.
As i switched from NF4 board i'll need some time to adapt but i'll post some screenies :)
I got my S2E Mine is running like a champ running X3360 at 3995. RAID 0.. with OCZ 1600EB Ram. I think Ram setting have alot to do with getting this board stable.. I had a few issues until I got ram right.. I RAN OCCT for 12hrs and 3dmark 06 for 6hr Rock Solid!
Anyone know the fix for Distored Audio when Scrolling Website? Appears When ever I have HD Access or like scrolling in the forums I get Distored Audio.. Very wierd. when I dont Overclock I dont have the issues I ve tried the onboard audio and SB X-FI Both PCI-E Cards..
any Ideas?
Check your SATA/PATA controllers channels modes, probably your HDD has fallen-down to PIO mode.
forgot to mention I am running RAID 0 with (2) Seagate 1TB 7200.11 drives
I also tried running the default drivers and the nvidia drivers for raid
I have plenty of issues running my RAM at stock settings (CellShocks @ 1800 8-7-6-21 2T) on my s2e.
Sure I can pass memtest86+ for multiple hours; but when I load windows, play games and start actually using my PC, I get lockups. The system will freeze at peak activity with combined stress on CPU/RAM and HDD.
Going from 1T to 2T helped a lot and made the lockups much less frequent. Basically I can now prime for 8+hours with no freezing. But if I run Crysis benchmark tool with hundreds of runs (2 loops each), I will end up with a lockup [99% of the time when the level is being loaded].
If I disable P1/P2, everything is fine. So yeah it is really a matter of getting the ram work @1800 with certified timings and P1/P2 enabled.
well, so its rock stable with p1 nd p2 disabled?
then its def the chipset, some can run p1 nd p2 enabled at high speeds, some cant... if thats really the problem then nvidia should bin the chipsets properly and sell the 790ultra as p1 p2 at high speeds stable and the 790 non ultra as p1 p2 fail at high speeds...
isnt that what nvidia initially said they would do?
so is everybody here only having corruption issues with p1 and p2 enabled?
or also with p1 and p2 disabled?
x2beach, did you ever have any problems running that ocz 1600 EB at stock? like lockups and restarts etc? im having problems getting my S2E to run stable even at stock settings and auto volts, it keeps locking up in games and during stress tests, ive tested a QX6700 & Q9450, and 7600GT & 9800GX2 and now ive tested a set of 1600EB OCZ ram 2x2gb & 1333 ocz ram 2x1gb and it locks up everytime.
tell me what volts/timings are you using for your ram? ive just manually changed the ram divider to 5:8 in the bios to see if the 1:2 divider is what is causing the problem
(i just received my motherboard back today as i RMA'd it since i couldn't figure out what was causing the problem and didnt have a second set of memory to test at the time and the store said they found no faults with the board)
Unfortunately you are not the only one with problems with this combination of motherboard and memory:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...17#post2950817
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=37380
Hope this gives you some inspiration to solving the issues. I still doubt the RAM as such are faulty, the combination is just bad or the motherboard sucks/is faulty.
Indeed rock stability has to be redifined for this board:
10+hours prime95 and memtest86, plus multiple hours of gaming (ideally loop on a benchmark like crysis or 3dmark06) and run sfc /scannow every now and then.
My board is rock stable with P1/P2 set to auto (=disabled), but then bandwidth is so poor.
When they are enabled I have to raise NB to 1.7V, loosen the ram timings a lot and it's almost there but still not stable.
And I just run at fsb 450 linked and synched, CPU only @3.6GHz. Maybe others are lucky with other boards revision (mine is b1) or different ram.
thanks for those links holmer they help a little, after i made that last post i decided to test a theory i had and i changed the ram divider in bios manually to linked 5:8 which downclocked the memory to 1066 instead of the stock 1:2 divider at 1333 and ive been playing cod4 for the last 40minutes without any lockups whereas before when i was using 1:2 divider it was crashing after about 20 mins or so. perhaps it is the motherboard that is causing the problems im going to try leaving it to prime and see if it locks up.
andymg350, Here is what I changed from AUTO in the bios for RAM
bump the Voltage to 1.9
P1: Auto
P2: Auto
tCL: 8
tRCD: 8
tRP: 8
tRAS: 24
Command clock: 2T
PM me if you need more help.. My ram is stable at those setting
No corruption, Air Cooling (waiting for WC parts), memory voltage is 2.0V, core voltage is 1.392V:

I also found out the same. P1 and P2 @ Auto is very stable. As soon as enable them, I am getting random lockups when priming or just even browsing.
Fortunately, so far I just had corruption just once. Maybe because I don't try to push this board too much as I am on air.I have a Revision B1 also. I have a very capable QX9650(week 39) which can do 4GHZ @1.344, so I am running @ 445FSB. The bandwidth sucks big time with P1/P2 on auto.
guys how much bandwith do u lost same settings just linked or unlinked on everest?
