Yup, thats my own board :D
It is the same PCB and the same components.
Si DualCore, esta chula esta placa. No conviene gastarse el dinero en la Maximus teniendo lo mismo por menos dinero ^^

Maximus owners seams disappointed with theirs motherboards, and P5E owners are very pleased with theirs. The reason is maybe Maximus owners think they get less than they expected. For the other hand P5E guys feel they get more then expected.
I am modest guy and I am more than happy with my P5E, after P5W DH dlx. To be clear that is great mobo for my E6600, but my quad couldn't reach 3.0 Ghz. On new board it is flying on 3.6. Probably I can push it more, but as I said, I am modest guy, and I am not giving a dime for all that new revision and x48 fuss.
FYI for some reason price different between Maximus formula and P5E in my country is more than 100 €.
Price difference in Belgium around 50 euro's so I went for the Mus... got a 1.02G one , till now it runs as good as my P5LK dlx ( 8 x 450 )with way less heat output, so a pretty happy camper here
Wow, the 0505 bios is amazing. On the 0401( shipped bios) I would get some very bad vdroop even with loadline calibration enabled. Im talking about a .07 difference. Now with 1.45 vcore set in bios I get 1.43 idle and 1.44 load (cpuz & speedfan ). Thats pretty impressive.
You guys are killing me. My board will be here on Halloween. /me waits
I'm a noob to overclocking but hey!
Have managed to clock this board stable to 3.72ghz by dropping the mutilpier to 8x and pushing bus to 465mhz, I have gone upto 3.8Ghz but need to work on stabliity. Will be stress testing it soon with correct programs when I can find them.
The only thing I had to do voltage wise was to set the Dram voltage to 2V and change the timmings of my Crucial Blastitic PC8500 4GB memory to 5,5,5,18 at 5,5,5,15 would end benchmark and would stick in thread and stop when doing old 3DMark2001SE.
Achieves a score of 64108 on that,
3DMark06 score 13421
BTW have watercooled the whole system in Silverstone tj09 using
XSPC basic kit but have added chipset block which didnt or wouldnt fit in place of SB heatsink so placed it on top of it instead. I also have fitted an EK block to my BFG8800 OC 768mb card, This is all in one 3/8 loop.
Temp wise all is cool CPU 38, MB 32, NB 43, SB 38 the only alarm being raised by PCprobe is voltage on FSBT,
The only probs I have had have been with Vista but not necessarly the board, the issues I have are with XFI Gamer and Time Bomb bug with 4GB ram and BFG card holding on to Thread or stuck in it, both of which are driver related I think.
I hope i'm not hijaking a thread here, just trying to give some feedback lol
I think I'll be going with the P5E since I'm not going to be watercooling this system.
Hi guys I need your help-
Im thinking of going Quad from my E6850- its a great cpu- But I cant OC it much anymore for some reason, I had a P5K Premium and it would run at 3.92 fine for about a month but then it wouldnt run that anymore- anyways i then had it at 3.84 and samething, so i thought it was mobo- bought maximus and still having same prob- so now i think id rather go 3.6 on a G0 Quad 6600.
It seems many people are doing this on this forum, Other specs i have is a crucial ballistix tracer 8500 ram 2GB and enermax galaxy 1000 dxx- I dont know if you need to know any other specs of mine. But can someone list what there using in there Bios to achieve this, I find this board has alot of voltage problems, i set 2.2 in vdimm and get 2.3, Vdroop is ok on this mobo- but even thigns like NB volt changes- so just want t know what you SET in bios and how your achieivng 3.6 on Q6600
Also Note I have a CM Stacker 832 with 9 fans and a thermalright ultra 120 extreme heatsink, so its a cool machine, im running NB and SB ruond 45 Degrees and CPU round 40 idle 50 Load when oc'd
Thanks for any help!!!
Hey how are actually 4x1GB doing on the Maximus, I got atm some 2x1GB crucials but , price are so low now, I just wana get another kit. f.e the kit I got can do 1167 5-5-4-9 @ 2.05v and 1200 5-5-5-12 @ 2.05v, I just bought mine recently , but the prices dropped more from the same store I bought mine , if 4x1GB would clock near what I should achieve with 2x1GB I will get another pair, as those will be the same batch.
me from ip35 pro to maximus i gain 10 mhz of max fsb.
But this mobo clocks worst than the maximus.
At ip35 i was able to pass 3dmark06 with 6850 at 4240 very easy.
With maximus i hit a wall at 4130 with 1.57.At this speed ip35 pro want 1.6.
But 1more fsb ant nothing moves even if i set vcore to 1.8v.
I think its bios related.Iwould like so
Well I have the Ballistic BL2KIT12864AA1065 x 2 4GB working ok but had to losen timings a little tras to 18 rather than 15 seem to like 2v rather than 2.2v better.
No issues apart from Creative xfi time bomb bug in Vista (i.e all of a sudden get white noise after a while affects 4gb memory systems) Drivers suck from Creative for xfi)
What part no Crucial have you got? mine are rated PC8500 1066MHz runnimg at about 935mhz in bios but says 465mhz in cpuid (can someone explain that?divider is 1:1 and processor is @3720Mhz with 4651Mhz bus and 1860Mhz FSB. I have been running this 24/7 no probs.
Temps are cool on load CPU 48 MB 36 NB 48 SB 41 all watercooled including SB
Running 4x1GB Corsair 6400C4 DHX stuff, and can't seem to push past 450MHz with it. Used to run it @ 475MHz minimum in my Striker @ 2.3v...
I'm hoping it's the bios as I paid a lot for this ram (now I can buy the full 4Gb again for the price of 2GB at the time of buying :P) so I'm not looking to change it any time soon!!!
Asisde from that, i can't fault the board. It's pushed my Quad to 3.9GHz air cooled stable now, and the vDroop is non existant with my PC Power & Cooling 510w TurboCool SLi PSU. The PSU screeches while priming or OCCT but Folding 24/7 it's fine. :D
Just waiting for a new bios to show to true potential here and not make me wish I'd gone for a P35 board or stayed with my Striker a bit longer...?
It's just fits around the mosfets but it's doable, enough clearance between the heatsinks and the cooler, will take some piccies for ya. Here they are :

Wow nice board :)
The new 505 bios says theres a User String for the LCD Probe deal instead of showing the time. Any idea how to mess with that?
Yeah I put in my name with the Striker no idea of this works here... board seems prety stable to me out of the box till now...
You guys all think 0505 is the best bios to use ?
Looks damm nice with that TRUE leefhoofd, I also ordered the maximus, mine would look similiar to yours, with the TRUE+ evga 8800GTS , cheers:)
Very good cooler , almost beats my D-tek Fuzion & thermochill PA 120.3 : 300 euro setup pfffffffff...
Windows BSOD on me during install I have to use slightly more volts with my Gskills PC8000 here then with the Striker ( maybe it overvolts less here hehehe )
btw Do u need additional fans on these boards for NB + Mosfet ( which mosfetsink , seperate 1 or the 1 that is connected) ? I added a old amd fan @ the seperate Mosfet heatsink ( as that 1 gets blazing hot without as the 1 connected with the heatpipes barely warm) and a 60mm fan sideways mounted on the NB@ my P5K deluxe.
hehe never tried W/c , and I always wanted to try it, untill I started to lap it + cpu :

Super aircooler
I tried 505 after i had upgraded from the original bios to 504. Had a slight problem the divider kept flutuating in CPUz from 9 to 6, so I tried 504, it cured it but came back again so I set to manual it fixed it. I've since gone back to 504 like GAR because everyone else has, but it seems people are now in favour of the 505 bios.
Can someone explain why coretemp reports 4185Mhz while CPUz reports 3.7Ghz on my Maximus?
Coretemp does not calculate the correct speed when the multi is dropped.
CoreTemp has issues with reading any multiplier other than the stock one, and as such produces crazy clockspeeds. Use CPU-Z or Everest for reading Clockspeed!
Yep wayyyyyy old issue if you can call it an issue
Anyone have any issues when enabling Ai Clock Twister or Transaction Booster ? I cant post when they are enabled.
i've been reading that people are having all these issues and can't hit 3.8 and blah blah blah... i'm wondering if i was just a lucky one or something. i'm still a noob so maybe i'm missing something. i have 425x9 with the cpu at 1.5 (haven't tried lower yet) and it's 4 hours stable in prime95. i'm enjoying this board and definately looking forward to better thought out bios versions.
So far, so good, I'm reporting. Quick test w/ some crappy 5300LE PCIe card and default Intel air cooler showed it's quickly booting at 3.6GHz with everything on default.
However we couldn't reach 500FSB no matter what - tomorrow or on Saturday I'll hook up the water and 4GHz must work... :D
anybody getting a restart issue? whenever i restart from vista, it just hangs
anybody else or is it just me? 505 bios
most interesting thing...all my parts arrived today q6600 g0, maximus formula se and of course GAR's fabulous ram...installed xp pro as quick as can be while oc'd to qx6800. flashed 505 bios, manually set fsb to 333 and ram to 1002 with everything to auto except ram at 2.1v...10 minutes later. socket on the board is dead. no lights above the socket, keeps rebooting at cpu init., swapped out the q6600 for my e6700 and same thing. appears that the cpu socket just...died. it's a rev 1.02g btw.
Hey guys...I'm getting my MAX in about a week and would like to know their is one unified drivers set for the board or do I have to download all the seprate drivers from Asus's site.
I would like to also know if their are any of the drivers I shouldn't load. I'm not going to be using the bundled soundcard so I don't need to load the Audio drives...right?
Thanks;)
actually appears to be one of these 2gb g.skills modules is dead...not as bad as the board but still...nice.
prime and occt were using 99% of the cpu while something else was using the 1%. overall it was 100% according to task manager. i went into bios to test a lower setting as i thought it was set to 1.5 but it was actually 1.49***. if there is something you want me to test out gar, let me know. i'm not sure if something might be different with my board. the revision is 1.02, and i'm starting if there really is a new revision out or if there was some photoshoping going on hahahah.
gar, how long were you running prime/occt before you noticed this problem? i just cranked the cpu voltage up to 1.51 and it's still running at the 99% with the occasional drop to 98%, but at the bottom it's saying 100% usage of the cpu. if i remember correctly, your drop was quite significant?
Do these voltages and temps in red look to high for this board or is PC Probe just set to low?
probe is progably just set too low. happened to me too... that's not idle is it?!?!?!
Could people running 400 fsb on 266 strap give me their VNB settings if possible? It seems I need loads! 1.5 for just 400 with 1200 ram
it would go down to around 80-90 after 1 minute, sometimes right away......thats interesting if your board doesnt do this.
what voltages are you using???? can you please list them, thanks, also what fsb and multi, i think that might have something to do with it.,
does anybody know if i need the cpuleveluphelp or cpupowermonitor running at startup?!?!?
Quad or dual core? I just got 2 more PC6400 Ballistix sticks 10 mins ago, threw them in and it seems to be happily running at 1200 5-5-5-15 4 sticks SPi 32M with 1.45VNB:yepp: Early days yet so It's probably because of so many variables that the vnb needed is jumping up and down...I think 4:5 needs way..way more:shrug:
Anyone getting popping and crackling with audio? It doesn't happen all the time, but a lot of the time the SupremeFXII has popping audio, I had it when I first got my Striker with the SupremeFX but a driver update fixed it... No such driver update this time?
Um, Shawn TRD, unfortunately not in this case. He is not the only one with this problem.
We are talking about the side A or side B? Becasue side A is showing the load on your CPU vs side B is showing the what task's and using that %.
I think the CPU issue is only with Quads, I dont get that problem with my dualcore.
Anyways Last night I successfully ran a 8 Hour Orthos session with my E6850 @ 3.84 (427X9)- I ran my ram at 1:1 for stability of the CPU now Im gonna OC the RAM and stablize, I think ill have to do 5:6 (DDR2 1138) since 3:4 is broken (which is DDR1068 pretty much my rams rating) Hopefully i can do 1138 @ Vdimm 2.25
My temps are good with 3.84- CPU was never higher than 57-58. my NB and SB were under 50. One crappy thing is my NB volt neesd to be at 1.62 to be stable which is high, but the temp never went that high so ill leaev it be, Any tips on Clocking my RAM?
Im using the e6850 w/thermalright ultra 120 and Crucial ballistix tracer 2GB 1066 kit.
Right-most image show Prime95 running 80-90%, remaining cpu-time taken by "system" process. Lowering voltage stops the behavior. Does not matter if cpu is stable or not...happens @ some low speeds too, althouhg it depends on which setting for cpu volts you choose. I get 1.424 by 1.4375, no issue, but 1.424 by selecting 1.45 results in this issue. GAR gets it at different voltagem which leads me to believe this is current related, not speed or voltage. happens on 9x and 8x multi...have not tried 7x yet.
Yeah, seems like a couple of things contribute to this weird behavior.....i hope asus gets a fix soon......has anyone contacted asus about this issue???
I got a weird problem:
I just recieved the mobo today. I try to get 1200 with my Ballistix PC8500 but I can't. I've tried some BIOS: 401, 205 & 505, but I cannot make my ram run at 1200MHz (they do 1400MHz CL5-5-5-15 w/2.5v).
I've tried the blue & the white slots. White do 1200MHz w/2.1v, but the system doesn't seem stable. Blue can't reach 1200MHz, even with 2.55v.
Got some clues?
Thanks in advance ;)
again, i've ran my 425x9 at 1.45 and it ran prime occt at 99%... i also ran the same settings at 1.51 volts and again prime and occt were running at 99%. am i doing something different then you guys or is this an isolated incident?
You might get it at higher voltage, if my idea of it being current-related is correct. Again, I get it @ 1.425v, GAR @ 1.5v, and you haven't got it yet.
In this instance, 3 machines, the most likely difference is how muc hcurrent the cpu is drawing, as I DO NOT have the issue with my dualcores...just my quads.
I run a couple of pretty good B3's(1.2375 VID/1.25 VID), you guys are on G0's, which would easily explain why you guys can go further than I can in voltages.
It's almost like there's some sort of "protection" on the cpu... because lower speeds, same volts, can sometimes make it happen, which kinda FUBAR's the whole "current" idea...
One thing to note is that this board will install "EPU driver" fomr mobo cd...maybe you have not installed this?
You could also try pushing volts further and see what happens, if your cooling is up to it.
basically, we both(GAR and I) would LOVE to find a fix.
I am having exactly the same problem with my Ballistix 8500 too.:(
I'm using 0505 BIOS.
1200 on white slots = not stable. On blue slots = cannot boot up.
Tried with different vDimm, vNB (as high as 1.7v) and subtimings, still not stable.
My Teamgroup 6400 seem to do somewhat better with the same settings.
At least they have passed memtest 600% 1200 @2.2v.
POssibly, and then we could just blame our cpus. But i cannot let this one go..scales too well under DI, 3.6 stable @ 1.525v @ a scorching :eek:95c:eek: on air.
Just so maybe you understand a bit, neither of my quad's do this in other boards.
I didn't install any of the software from the CD, just the stanard mobo, audio and LAN drivers and I can Prime/OCCT/Dual Orthos/Fold @ 1.5v+ (up to 1.65v so far) @ 3.9GHz and 430+ FSB without a problem. Not a single case of not fully loading the CPU or all 4 cores... :D
I think it's an isolated problem! :(
Maybe EPU driver...I'm now home and can re-install XP agian...you bet I am gonna leave this driver out and see what happens!
Mine just arrived. Now I need that Yorkfield and I am ready to boogey:yepp:
okay, but you installed the asus monitoring app, yes? some of the other asus sutff off of mobo cd?
I just re-partitioned my HDD, i'll jsut toss on a quick copy and check it out, let ya know later what's up. Pretty sure it was eitehr ASUS AI suite or PC Probe that installed EPU driver.
And yes, JoeBar, very strange indeed. I should be able to pin it down tho, hopefully. Keep your fingers crossed for me.:lol2:
I have them m8! :D
Update when u have more results.
sup fellas. Just a quick question.I just got my maximus and before i open it i would like to know if anyone is running a q6600 go on water at 4gig stable? Thats where im at on my x38 DQ6 atm. I hope it wont be like my asus p5k deluxe and not be able to run any of my 4 cpus at that speed. My p5k temps would sky rocket at 1.6vcore. It is the only mb i own that cant get the job done:) Well i said the heck with it and opened it LOL. Pick of my 2 rigs...sli on the left and crossfire on the right with my new maximus toy in the middle:up: My POS evga 680i mobo rebooted right after i took the pic:rofl:
i have cpupowermonitor and cpuleveluphelp running on start up. not sure if that has something to do with installing the cd or not. but, i did click on the ASUS InstALL thingy. so i'm pretty sure it's installed. i've got to head out right now but if there is a setting or something you guys want me to try just let me know. i'm only running mid 30's under load at 1.5v according to probe. just let me know.
Where is the supplied 3Dmark06 that the box states ?
Edit: Never mind found it, Is this a full copy of 3DMark06 though?
Hey guys. I have had my Maximus for a few weeks now and I am wondering if you guys have the same problem? My 12v line in the bios and with ASUS probe both show my 12v power rail at 11.79-11.85. I have now tried both a PC Power & Colling 750 Quad and also my Silverstone DA750 both have the same problem. I have looked at other peoples screen shots of this board and most of them are showing 12v on there Asus Probe. Is it just not reading it right? Thanks for the help.
mine in the bios reads high 11's too.
Can people post their successful OC settings here?
I just got my Maximus SE, a X3220 chip, and 2x1GB OCZ Reaper PC9200. I am now trying to push it. Everything is WCed.
I set every voltage to the highest "yellow" setting to begin with, CPU Vcore at 1.5, and DDR at 2.00 so I have some headroom. Is this a good idea, or should I leave most of it on auto?
Should I try pushing mem with a 1:1 divider, or should I go for a lower divider right away?
Thanks!
266 strap crashes on boot any higher then 360fsb for me:confused: 3dmark06 cpu score 200 lower than my dq6. Memory performance is higher:up: could not figure out the damn strap for an hour so i went from auto to 333 and up to 445fsb now priming away:)
Just wanted to stop by and thank everyone for their contribution to this thread. I purchased this board the other day and it should arrive on Monday and all this info should help me with my initial set-up since it has yet to be fully reviewed by Eva over at i4memory yet.
Funny how I bag on ASUS boards but yet I keep buying them,.
Has anyone figured out the difference between the two revisions yet?
I have been trying to follow this thread for awhile now. I have not subscribed yet... now I have. I too have a Maximus Formula SE and things seem to be running smooth for the time being. The vdroop is a little much at .1v, I'm about to pencil mod it, but may just wait for a new bios. I look forward to reading about everyone's experiences with this board :)
By the way has anyone put the waterblock on the NB into their loop? After a couple days I decided to add it to mine and my overclocks have become MUCH more stable.
Have 4X1Gb sticks orthos blend at 1200 with 2.2V on P5E if it means anything?
where the heck is the serial number for the 3dmark06?!?!?
edit: on the darned cd sleeve... lol
Anyone did some Dimm readouts @ this board for the "real" vcore/ Ram output compared with what is set @ bios?
