RaBit is just around the corner, hopefully:
According to MAVKE over at mvktech.net. (Posted yesterday)Quote:
Just a small update and that is that I just received a first beta version of the new RaBIT with some support for the Radeon HD 2x00 series. So we will see how fast it gets to a final stage.
It remains to see what it actually will support.
here er is a XT bios,an the backup is a PRO bios
I'll try to set the same settings like XT but in Pro bios to see what wll be effect.
 ok
I am thinking that the people who can not flash the cards are having trouble due to having an abit motherboard. That is the only similarity I can link between myself and ownage.
ok i flash the pro
My card is crazy:shocked: !!!
I've passed Mark06 at 979/2466:worship: 14 678 Marks

So whats your maximum stable (as in atitool artifact scanner) overclock nickless? You're on water with 1.35v bios mod and 1.45 with atitool right? Want to trade cards with me?
In atitool artifact scanner maximum stable overclock is 900/2100. Yes, I'm on water with 1.35v bios mod and 1.45 with atitool, but my card is cooling by separated water ring together with chipset. The CPU is under vapochill. Thatisway I can keep lower temps under heavy clock(46-48*C) and this combination between crazy card and good cooling give me these results!
Hey all :) Here's my result - 13 162 3DMarks :) Stock Cooling http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3896415
I think its time to flash the bios :)
Hi mate, this hapened to me last week, then i use ATIflash (from techpowerup, can flashing from windows) in a DFI mobo (because has 2 pci-x ports); with two video card, one in the first pci-x and the HD2900Pro in the second pci-x. for me dont work with a one pci video card.
then use the program and choose the 2nd pci-x video card (where is the card that need to reflash) to flash, its simply and easy (5 seconds), and you can revive the card.
The program is multilanguague:

Lucky with the flashing... and sorry for my poor english im from Spain..
@nickless:Can you put here that bios mod with 1.35v? What is max in bios for vcore? Can you set it at 1.45-1.5v?
What is your voltage regulator temp? And is ati tool working fine with voltage change? Sorry for a bunch of question :D
nickless
what temps do you get @ vreg? also how do you cool it (vreg)?
Maybe I missed this from earlier, but has anyone flashed an XT with a modded PRO bios? I'd like to give it a try since the memory timings are different. Can someone share their stock (or modded) PRO bios?
i flashed mine too , 2900pro 512 . flashed with 1.35v and gave me only 60mhz boost , plus all my temps hits the sky... [110c mofset , 70c core watercooled@core] switch back to original 1.15 and my card running cool again 55c~ core load & 70~ the vrms.
Unzip first.
The max bios Vcore is 1.35v, it can't be set above 1.35v. To be effective voltage control in Ati tool, fyrst you have to set the frequensy and after that voltage, but this is only for Vcore, the other two settings working fine. If you set first Vcore and after that frequensy, Vcore is go back to default. This is some bug in Ati tool and I hope in the next release it will be fixed.
About voltage regulator temps they are 80-85*C under heavy load and 40-43*C idle!
Here are the bioses for HD2900 Pro1GB what @Rick Flair have posted before http://rs104.rapidshare.com/files/69...odded_bios.rar
By water, a lot of RAM-sinks and 2x120mm fans on the bottom from 1200 to 3100 rpm:) You can see a pic in my signature.
When I bench my PC sounds like jet-fighter:D
Never heard anyone done this before. But it makes sense; clock for clock the PRO bios is slightly faster then the XT bios. (Probably due to tighter ram-timings.)
My humble guess is that most of the differences comparing thees bioses actually is differences in ram timings. But, hard to tell as we don't have any means to see the timings e.g we don't know what to look for in Hex editor :(
Have to ask you guys.
When overvolting (1.30 to 1.35) and OC this card, it seems to me that my PSU have a hard time keeping up. Experiencing random freezes an reboot, after playing (Crysis) for more than 1 hour. The card isn't running to hot either - all temps are reasonable.
Here my PSU (Enermax Liberty 620W):

No instability with vgpu @ > 1.30?
On the 12V rails you got 17A +17A.
I got 22A + 22A. Should not be a problem then.

Can someone test this.
I was waiting for atitool beta3, hoping for proper voltage control and crossfire overclocking but now iīm really disappointed since thereīs no serious improvement compared to beta 2.:(
I will be better off with GpuClocTool:

Atitool WAS a great product , but since it is updated way too little it's of no use to me anymore .
beta3 is indeed a big disappointment for R600 owners

Monster indeed! So far you win the thread hee hee
I havent really been able to push mine too far due to heat issues. I'm gonna drag the rig out back to the frigid laundry area one of these days to give me a better idea of it's limit...
Hi guys,
I have a powercolor 2900pro and the card run with 920/1000mhz. With my e6750 @ 4000mhz I have 13,7k in 3dmark 2006 :) Its a realy nice card but the 290w sucks a little bit :(
I have been reading this thread for an hour, and still can't see a 2900PRO 512MB DDR3 bios that has been just voltmodded to ~1.25v, not turned into an XT. I have a Sapphire, if it matters at all.
Thanks for any info.
mine runs at 837/999 stable .
benching goes to 857/999
that is with 1.15v core .
Didn't try higher mem .
voltmods from 1.20v and up make my temps skyrocket , and i only get a few mhz more , so i'll just leave it as it is .
@R101 : backup your own bios and modify it with the QuantumForce2900BiosEditor posted before . You can make your bios exactly as you want .
Hi,
I'm having major problems getting my Sapphire 2900 Pro 512 running on Linux, anyone else tried it? Tried Ubuntu, Fedora and openSUSE 10.3
It keeps over syncing at 75Hz instead of the max 60Hz my Dell 2405FPW can take, it does the same on XP and Vista too but I can get it working by manually setting it via CCC (XP & Vista). It does blank the screen periodically when I'm in XP & Vista though. Could that be a driver issue or a problem with the card?
Linux just won't run full stop even when I set xorg.conf up manually it still over syncs the monitor and I just can't get it working
Can anybody give me a Sapphire HD 2900Pro 512MB BIOS, default voltages? I flashed mine to Sapphire 2900XT, then back to HIS Pro, but I'd prefer to make it actually register as Sapphire.
@CrimInalA - I wanna check mine too! :p
Is the 2900Pro still a viable card? Or has it been superseded and undercut by the 38(50/70) to the point to where those are better options?
I love how you put "no offence"(sic) right after "it's just plain stupid".
1. Just over half the power consumption
2. cheaper (when sold for it's proper price)
3. Effectively just as fast
4. Mildly newer feature support
5. Runs cooler
6. Support wise, completely dead product vs. brand new product
Stupid I suppose. Please note that you're insulting quite a few folks when you say that buying a 3870 is "just plain stupid". /soapbox I'm getting really tired of statements like that. Everyone knows everything I guess. /soapbox
2900 is a fine card, (I'm still using mine!) but the 3870 is an improvement.
3dmark isn't too interesting for me.
Look at the cb-Performancerating, the 2900XT isn't faster in any setting:
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/h...formancerating
btw: I own an 2900Pro, so I'ld like the idea it could be faster then it's successor, but my eyes tell me otherwise.
Hi peeps,
Please don't be annoyed (I've honestly just read about 20 pages of this thread) but can someone link me to the 880/950 1.25v 3D BIOS that I can use with my 512mb Sapphire 2900 Pro? And has anyone here had any success with this particular card and BIOS with stock cooler?
Thanks :)
Ok, 3870 have some advantages like lower power consumation and lower temps, but I saw how 3870 on 1GHz get pretty lower results then 2900Pro in SM2.0 and SM3.0 in Mark06 with QX9650 !?
Allso the improvement of 3-5fps is not a reason for me to change my 2900Pro with 3870. I'll wait for better card, R700 maybe!
Hi All, can someone also please send me the Sapphire HD2900PRO 512MB bios?I forgot to backup mine before flashing it. No problems with the XT version but i think it's some how slower. Thanks
Got a question for you guys......
First off let me show this.........
http://www.unholysyndicate.com/images/137343dmark06.JPG
That is with the GPU running at 830/950
I can't turn it up any more or its not benchable.
If I went out and bought an aftermarket cooler such as the Thermalright HR-03/600 with a 92mm fan on it, would it allow me to run higher core and mem speeds or would it allow me to just go a little bit higher and have lower temps?
I'm just wondering to find out if 49.99 plus whatever for the fan is really worth it or should I be happy with these results and call it a day?
Oh, I'm not complaining about the score. I was just wondering if I can get a good push from it putting an aftermarket cooler such as the HR-03/600?
I don't want to waste money on an aftermarket cooler just to get another 10mhz from both core and memory.
I'd like to be able to push it to 900/1050 or something in that respect. I don't know if that's irrational or if you need exotic cooling methods to achieve that.
If I'm sitting good then I won't worry about paying 65 bucks for the GPU HSF and the 92mm Fan. That's what I need you guys to tell me lol.
Aftermarket cooling is always better. In my opinion its worth it (if you can spare the cash ofc...), Mine went down from 60 idle and 80 full to 60 full, and 30 idle... and the silence is gold.
OC'ing is also better, not that I can reach that high now as I'm on vista and cant get the Overdrive to stop managing the oc so only on XP i use ati tool. As you know overdirve is very "soft" and only allows for 900 mem and 856 core, but I can run at that speed no problem for benching.
The plus side of HR-03/R600 is temp and silence. If you are changing only for some more mhz and the stock cooling noise at 50% (not even thinking about the 100...) is ok by you then dont.
Behave!
How higher could you clock it with the HR-03?
I have an HR-03 on my 2900pro, and your right about the VRM getting hot, one quick little improvment is replace that crap thermal tape they have on there, I scraped it off with a razor and used the heatsink compound that came with the HR-03, put a thin layer on the sink and a thin layer on each vrm chip. This saved me 20c on VRM load temps (yes 20c). I could have probablly used AS5, the VRM's are in an acrylic housing and saved a couple of more C.
Yes 92mm Vantec.
No there is no 120mm fan blowing on card.
No but I've never checked their temperature under load, I guess I should.
Well I'm happy with my Pro, Running 0.9v in 2D, and 1.2v in 3D, 840/1000. The card runs Whiteout, Crysis DX10 artifact free at thoose speeds looping for 30 minutes, I can run 880 on the core but Whiteout artifacts as does Crysis, everything else runs good though.
Since I've got the VRM running cooler I'm going to up the voltage to 1.25v and check stabilty, hopefully I can get 870 on the core 100% stable.
Here's a 3Dmark06 score, card is running 860/1000, 13306, http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3906507
The RAM I've run upto 1100MHz (2200MHz effective) which it runs stable, never tried higher, but the card has more then enough bandwidth at 1000MHz.
Finally some nice numbers on my card!
I really need better VRM cooling.
http://img.techpowerup.org/071207/2900_3dmark.jpg
So according to this thread there is a new verison of ati tool imminent supporting voltage control for 3850/70. Guess what I'm wondering?
Whats the facts about memory timings over 999Mhz? As I can run at 1033 artifact free, but if thats slower than 999Mhz I'll keep it at that!
Advise please ;)
Has anyone tried these in crossfire? I'm scoring around 14K in 06 (835/999) so I'm thinking something's wrong... I tried running my cards as Pro/XT, XT/XT, and Pro/Pro roms and CCC doesn't complain when I enable crossfire but my performance doesn't really change.
It doesn't scale in anything or just 06?
I am wiping my machine soon, anyone have any comments regarding if I should run cat 7.11 or stick with 7.10 for my Pro?
I don't notice a change in anything.
You should stick to 7.10 (less buggy) unless you want to play Crysis (flashing objects bug).
Hi, i need to buy a 8 pin cable for activate O.C in this card, any one know one place to buy this cable, in my country Spain in don`t see any store...
Another question: what POWER SUPPLY, has both cables: 8 pin pci-x cable and 6 pin, built in..? maybe i buy a new Power Supply..
Thanks for the help..
You don't need the 8 pin to overclock. Two 6 pin will be fine and just use Rivatuner to clock it ;)
You could also try something this, I have overdrive with only a 6pin cable.

i ordered the exact same psu. got it this monday and installed it. i was surfing the web for about 2hrs and just when i was about to change my signature here my screen went black and funny noises were coming from my pc. i opened the side panel of my tower and saw the red ledīs on my 2900īs flicker. thatīs not a good sign, i thought and powered off the system. the system never came back to live again with the zm850-hp.
now iīm back with my old ocz700wgxs and waiting for a replacement of the dead zalman psu. hope the replacement they send me will live way longer than 2hrs.
2900GT could be flashed to XT? did sombody tried?
