You should be getting more than that with the SMP client, probably around 7-800 ppd.
1) For a dual core you only need one SMP client running.
2) In order to enable the SMP client use the "- smp" flag when launching FaH.
Printable View
the command line of the client should be something like this
"C:\FAH SMP\Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe" -smp -forceasm -verbosity 9
without the -smp in there it won't run in SMP mode. Also, just run one client if you are on a dual core.
Look at step 14 and 15
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=196769
edit: actually look at the whole thing it's very well written.
It doesn't like the -smp flag.
"C:\Documents and Settings\CMarks\My Documents\F@Hcore0\FAH504-Console.exe" -smp -forceasm -verbosity 9
That's why my tag looks like. When I open it it says "Bad Argument: -smp"
It doesn't look like you have the right client installed. Follow the guide I linked from the beginning it has a link to the correct client.
oh you have the really old single core client, that's why! 5.04 is for the single core client only.
I had an EUE on my SMP today, at 87% :( I wondered why my pointage seemed so low today. Really odd, haven't had one of those in a long time. Maybe it is stanford telling me to shut down the old SMP client and upgrade to the 6.22 already? :lol2:
Ok, new client is installed with new tags. I have four FAHcore_a1.exe's running maxing out my C2D...I'm guessing that's normal?
It's working on project 3062...we shall see what my PPD goes to now.
Thanks for the help guys!
Yeah, looks good
Rivatuner doesn't show the GPU usage and it's reading the fan speed wrong so i'm using GPU-Z for that. Do you guys know any other program that can record GPU usage? So far i'm loving it, my CPU is between 5-15%. The first WU had an error so i backed off my OC and the current WU is at 10%:D
My e7100 was doing ~600ppd.
But now I'm getting this weird error.
hey looney, if you have any issues, just post the error and we will help you out I bet ya ;)
I know I already answerd :wasntme:
Posting the entire log file in code tags will be a good thing though. And change your shortcut to include the -verbosity 9 argument and run the client again, this flag will ensure more information get's printed in the logfile  ( btw please only respond there cuz while I'm atm just as quilty about double posting in dual threads, I really don't like it :)
As you guys can see from my PPD, I have given up until Stanford gets all this straightened out. 3 of my quads are down again and I don't have the time to play with them. :(
Twiggy use the drop in extend grace period 5.91 or 5.92 and the isue about a stall when not attending the clients goes away
I know PG could handle this better, but I'm sure I can help you use that route to stay folding :wtf:
In the end, I can do more good with trying to keep you folding then trying to outproduce you :p:
What ya say, take me up on the challenge? If I can't make it atleast fold on after eue's and that way ensure productivity, I'll fold under your name for a month :kitten:
Edit:
http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4369
I'll ask Riptide to put this in the stickies as wellQuote:
With the public beta release of the v6.22 SMP client, we encourage all our beta users to upgrade to that client. However, since the 5.91/5.92 beta expiration date is rapidly approaching, we have decided to extend those clients to allow users more time to upgrade (and to give us a little more time to work out the issues that invariably come up during public beta testing). Testing always uncovers bugs, which is why we do it. :)
So...
Drop-in binary replacements for 5.91 and 5.92 beta clients are available at:
http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/folding ... MP-591.exe
http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/folding ... MP-592.exe
These expire on 11-02-2008. However, 5.91/5.92 lack necessary features to support the new SMP cores we have in development. Depending on the core release and migration schedule, SMP A1 work units may not be available for the entirety of this three-month period. The extension of 5.91/5.92 is intended to ease the transition process to 6.22 rather than replace it entirely.
Thanks for testing!
Yeah the high maintenance wouldn't usually be a problem for me but my father in law is running for judge here. So with his campaign going, I have absolutely zero free time and when I get free time I try to be lazy/sleep, eat, and spend time with my kid. LOL its rough times around here.:(
great news... after nuking the work folder and queue.dat it finished a 2665 no problem today. Something was botched someplace but it seems to be working now.
2665 still not done here, forgot to up the oc
But it hasn't eue'd on me, so that's good
Twiggy, like I said the replacements exe's I posted fix this stall issue for when you aren't attending your clients closely, it has a 3 month extended grace period so realisticly after you dropped them in you can rest easilly for the coming time. PG dropped the ball but it's fixed to the extend they could I suppose. Haven't seen problems with the 5.9x\s atleast :)
Oh man my ppd are in the can. Why me??? WHY????????
It looks like you only have one single core client running
Did you upgrade to the 6.22 client? If so, you need to put the -smp flag in the list of flags, otherwise it won't run. After putting that -smp flag in, delete queue.dat, unitinfo.txt, work folder, and the fahcore_82.exe file. Start the client back up, it should be in SMP mode.
I'm using the drop in binary and I'm still having probs(this is on my main rig).
Unless I did something wrong. Heres some of my log.

This is with 5.91? If so that's a bad thing cuz it's not supposed to be happening. I been bussy all day here haven't checked the folding forums today but idk, makes it hard to help you :(
And I said, I would fold under your name if I couldn't get you running I will keep my word, but I need to know more before I really admit defeat
Client versions? Config options? Log entries from the last wu's which did start?
Treid a clean install of 6.22b, then using the drop in exe from 5.9x? It's the middle of the night here but when I wake up and you're around to try get me on some kind of im and I'll try my best to help :)
I would blow away the whole thing, reinstall it, put the replacement binary in, and reconfigure it from scratch.
Mine gave me an EUE again this morning, on a 30xx project. Not just an EUE but a total bomb-out so I put the new binary in. We'll see what happens I suppose.
I just reinstalled the 22b2 and used the drop in binary and I get the samething.:( Now I'm getting EUE's before it even finishes 1%.
That is weird indeed
Can you maybe post the entire log file in code tags? Are you running DEINO or MPICH?
I'm running MPICH. Heres the entire logs from both clients.

Folding@Home Client Shutdown.
The only time i got an EUE error was after my GPU was OC'd crazy high. Mabey it has to do with stability?
Have you stress tested your hardware? Memtest, prime, etc?
O yeah stable 100%. When it first started happening(6.2 upgrade) I ran prime for 24 hours to be sure and it passed. This is my everyday rig(games, encoding, benching) so I'm positive its stable. I've never had EUE probs till the upgrade.
I'm gonna load up memtest and run it for a bit.
according to those logs, you're running deino, not mpich.... should be 5.91 if you want mpich
http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/fold...ah-SMP-591.exe
swap your exe file out..
Heres what I got.
EDIT: And memtest ran for a grip without errors too. I'm sure my rig is 100% stable.Code:# SMP Client ##################################################################

OK so far its working! 2 quads back up! 3rd one will be up soon. :D
kill all instances of mpiexec, smpd, and fahcore_a1 in tskmgr processes... if any are running...
delete work folder, queue.dat, and unitinfo.txt.... from the install dir...
then launch install.bat and login to get "mpi is working" like we always did before.
and then launch the client again and see what happens with a fresh queue and work folder...
Had you posted your entire log file earlier like I asked the first time ;)
Should add that to the stickes
And glad Mike was also able to help you there ;)
Got the 8800GT up and folding, put it on a Quad that was running WCG. I did not even know it was running WCG. I thought I had everything folding. Damn Alzheimer I tell you... :shakes:
MAN DOWN!! MAN DOWN!!
At least it was the small one :p:
Got back to my apartment this evening and fold1 wasn't showing up in FAHmon, couldn't ping it or anything. So I checked it and it is off. Odd. Hit the power, nothing. Dead as a doornail, will not power up. Oh well, minor loss really, it was the oldest, slowest of the bunch. I was going to be retiring it soon anyway to use the space for one of my more recent, newer crunchers that are sitting around on the coffee table caseless. I hope the HD is good though, the noisy old 8GB WD I have on fold8 is driving me nuts!
Stick some 3850s or 8800GSes in those rigs:D
Cool, tell us how much PPD you get out of it. Also it's nice to see the graph is back up
Project 3064 is doing awesome on my T7100! Almost 1000 PPD!!
Is this a good WU for everyone?
They come in 2nd place to the 2653 IIRC, so yeah they are nice units :)
I broke back into the top 20 producers again, I'm number 20 this morning! :D
Also... HEY SCOOP!
You have 2 days and then STOMP STOMP! :D Get that whip crackin' over those rigs of yours! ;)
I'm going to Frisco for a few days, but i'll be back in time for the race on Sept. 1st
Working on it :wasntme:
As long as I can get my main PC stable again, no idea what's going on with it.
http://trashpile.net/upload/Folding-PPD2.jpg
http://trashpile.net/upload/RmcAZ-Production.gif
This is a little more like it. :yepp:
Hopefully I will be back in the top 5 for production soon... if only I could find somewhere else to put this extra 8800 GS. I might be able to find a place for it in my parent's machine. :)
Also, I will be adding a PS3 (~900 PPD) for the contest on Sep 1st.
Hmm I think I know of a PC that the 8800GS could go in... :wasntme: :lol2:
:poke: we don't have a GOODmorning nor a goodNIGHT thread, but I think we need one. This thread isn't used enough anyway, and since I can't post in chat, you people will have to keep me entertained allot more then even before :fact:
Anyone awake here?
Ding Dong
XS has chat? I musta missed that link... I dont use IRC and IM or chat anyway.... it's just talk and people repeat themselves over and over or ask the same thing over and over with no record after it's closed... it always feels like some highschool hangin by the locker in between classes session to me, so I avoid IMing at all costs... I'd rather have it typed out somewhere so it doesn't have to be repeated over and over, or not as much anyway... maybe 20-25yrs ago I'd think differently, but not now..
Yep I'm awake still. I just installed Vista. NO SLEEP UNTIL PC IS SET UP AND BACK CRUNCHING!!
I went to bed before you guys answerd :(
Lol Mike, but XS chat has all these nice personalities
Sparky, as always :toast: to your attitude :wtf:
Back from the bay area, full speed ahead!:lsfight:
plopped the 9600GSO in fold6, and I can't seem to get any video output
*EDIT* DOH! I forgot to pull the old PCI card out... :hitself:
You can quit harrassing me for now. I got my two servers folding again. Although when I move into my house, I hope to have all my servers folding.
That long?? geez..... ;)
I'm paraphrasing movieman here, because it is so good:
"Whatever you are able to bring, it is enough"
Glad you are folding with us :toast:
By the way, think you could make something to cause Cisco Clean Access to auto log in as long as the password is set? Basically, when the login window pops up it hits the log in button and the Accept button? I'd like to get off the UA wireless (it's slow) but if I do then I get booted off the internet every morning and that causes delays and PPD losses for F@H :(
Simple, use a linux box as a gateway/cruncher.
http://support.uakron.edu/wiki/index...ment_Locations
"MAC and Linux will be redirected to a web login screen and will be required to logon, but no installation will be required. "
Then setup a cronjob to login at the 'cutoff' point.
wall ---> linux -- router/switch(or whatever) -- cluster
I thought about using the linux box but I'm a linux dummy :p:
Maybe you can walk me through setting it up sometime?
Sweet :D
What distro do you suggest I use? I can get it downloaded and installed. Not tonight but later this week (wednesday night maybe?)
You can always boot up without it. Perhaps the best idea would be to set it up with X windows. Install both webmin and foldingathome and then disable X. (webmin > http://www.webmin.com/)
I'll have look into what system to borg for this. Maybe fold7, because it is super easy to get to right now to add another NIC.
I'll bug you when I get one of these things booted with linux. Thanks so far
So with the help of SparkyJJO, I noticed I wasn't using the awesome smp core. So I stopped all the folders and turned them all back on. The non-smp cores will now just do -oneunit and disappear. All three WU's according to Fahmon will complete before the deadlines.
I also got Fahmon to work under linux, it's slick. I also use SSHFS so I can grab the data from my FreeBSD box (which is folding). Fahmon makes a nice 'webapp' page > http://texnofobix.net/folding/webapp.html
texnofobix I just want to say I think everyone feels the same as Sparky, incase there still was any doubt about it
Mike lol I use IM for quick questions and answers, something which it's more suited for then a forum. I brainstorm on IM, though I'm contemplating in putting up a BIG brainstorm thread just because I can't seem to get everything concrete and worked out so I'm stuck in this loop of not wanting to put anything up which isn't finished and I can't finish it seemingly because I am in need off external kinds of inputs I am lacking now.
Some things are better done in IM's, some things are better displayed in a forum. The sentence alone makes the diffrence clear imo :)
I think when you want to do what I write about, you pick up the phone?
Mhm it's way to quiet in here!!!
Where is everyone?
KNOCK KNOCK
I don't know but I'm going to sleep now. So I wish you sort of a good rest of the evening. ;)
Lol ok it's nice anyway to have some people around on XS who atleast live in the same time zone give or take one or two... lol
This forum requires that you wait 70 seconds between posts. Please try again in 59 seconds.
Mhm well then I'm officially declaring that thread to be not suited for herassment!!!!! The only place to herrass people is here
j/k ;)
Nice output you're giving during this contest, will you be able to keep that up? :wtf:
I like that!
It's not negative towards you, but I more appriciate new blood coming in then blood being transfussed from team to team. I rather have fah's total output grow if you know what I mean and I think you do
Seeing how people are able to look above the team aspect and just enjoy the crunching experience whatever happens makes me all fuzzy inside as well :D
I love the idea of folding with my idle computer. Too bad it is against corporate policy to fold on these machines at work. :( I wonder how amazing folding would be on a mainframe .... doubt it would work with out some elbow grease. And besides, I don't own my own mainframe ... yet.
Dude if you get a mainframe in your basement you'll have to post pics :D
Got one of these 5509 430 point WU right now. I'm down from
1m19s /frame on 5504,
1m24s /frame on 5506 to
2m04s /frame on 5509. Predicted PPD went down from 5k to 3k. Bleh. I need a second card.
This is with c/s/m: 648/1890/800 on my 96GSO. Temps went up by 6°C.
that's pretty typical of stanford's fah team... it's almost a bait and switch tactic. they did the same thing with smp and ev1 went out and built quad farms, then the ppd got yanked...
now it's happening to nvidia, ev1 went out and built nvidia farms, then whammo-yanked the rug out...
I don't know why they have to be so fickled and favoromatic about all their new stuff... it borderlines on unprofessional tactics...
would it have killed them to leave smp points similar to 2653 units ppdwise when moving to 2665.. NO! the work is still getting done.
would it have killed them to leave the points structure alone when moving to these new nvidia wu's... NO! the work is still getting done.
seriously, the work is stil getting done, all this ppd shuffling does is cause user unrest and complaints for fah.
someone at fah needs to get a business oriented focus team together, and teach them how things are done in the real world to keep customers happy.
a happy customer is a loyal customer... that basic 100yr old business concept has somehow flown right over pande and his group.. no focus or consistency whatsoever
I don't understand either, particulary why the hell they decided to lower the points for a wu that gets more work done. I mean, it's taking a whopping 40/frame longer, that alone would have been a big enough hit, now wouldn't it? Seen your production post for the new WU. :shakes:
But tell me, what's ev1?
Whoah, wait! I've netted a whopping two second gain on these WU by raising the core to 756. Yay.
everyone=ev1.... it's just a broad general term meaning a large group of users...
this is the same thing they did to smp earlier this year with 2665 wu's.. so the general mo is the same... it's just a different client...
I used to get po'd.. but over the last 13 months or so I've gotten used to less than professional type decision making processes from fah.. they run it like a bunch of college kids on a school project, so you can't expect large complex decision matrix type logic in their actions... if you do, you'll be disappointed and always on the verge of saying "screw this"and abandoning the effort...
Thanks for clearing that up. :p:
Concerning that SMP thing and now the lower point GPU wu, I think I've always gotten in at the wrong time. I invest in a quad (okok, just bc my E66 went up in smoke) and the points drop like a rock. I invest in a GPU and BAM, the points drop again...
I'm not loosing faith here since I'm folding for a cause and not for points, but as you I'm feeling this all is a bit odd. This is not the way to get ppl enthusiastic about the project and build some kind of challenge now is it?
Seems odd to me as well
Maybe they don't want those of us who still run the old single CPU client to feel too far behind :p:
So it turns out my uncle has bought a new laptop and he ditched the desktop that i gave him a while back. It has crappy specs but everything else is fine, decent Rosewill case, Enermax PSU, 20GB Maxtor. The DVD drive is a PITA because it only opens when i put a pin in the release hole, i figure i can overhaul it on the cheap. I need to find a cheap mobo with IGP, 512 or 1gb of RAM and an Athlon 64/Sempron. It'll probably take a while but if i can have it crunching with 9600GSO in the future it's worth it :yepp: or whatever happens with the next gen of GPUs and folding.
True, i'm sure there are a lot of psst off people who spent a lot of cash on CPUs/mobos/RAM and a lot of time OCing. The carpet was pulled from under us and now GPUs are king. It's cool now that i have Nvidia GPUs in both rigs, but before that i was ticked off as well. :shakes:
Dang, I just noticed I passed Marvin 38k ago and I missed my hazing window... :fight:
2 weeks ago I was giving him a hard time about it, now I missed the whole enchilada...
Darn you both
;)
I'm dropping down the ladder instead of going up
Nice going team, don't mind being over run, just don't make roadkill out off me :wtf:
Mike, :cheer: :party2: :cheer:  :party2: :cheer:
You can celebrate lol, I know it's not a big archievement but meh :rotf:
