Is there new rev. out or are all of these Commandos still rev.1.00 ?
At least all the motherboards with serial number beginning with 71XXXXX are 1.00G .
Haven't seen a 72XXXXXX
Can someone using air cooling (tuniq tower or some other heatsink) recommend the highest but safest vcore to use? I am running 1.5 now to keep my e6600 stable at 3.2GHz (speed fan shows 1.45, probably due to vdroop). I want to reach 3.6GHz stable, so how hight can I safely turn up the vcore for 24/7 usage? 1.7?
Thanks!
well what are you cpu core temps like with the tuniq ?
I use core temp to monitor temps and speed fan to monitor the case temps and vcore. I know the best way to monitor vcore would be to use a multimeter due to vdroop, but speed fan shows a vcore of 1.45 even though I have it set to 1.5 in the bios. So maybe speed fan does a good enough job of reading the vcore?
Either way, you told me what I wanted to know - you use the tuniq 120 and are running a 1.7 vcore. If temps don't get too high and that is what I need to use, then I will. Thanks, catscit, you have been very helpful!
Dont rely to much on Coretemp and speedfan! on board monitoring sucks!
get an external temp reader to accurately measure the temps especially if you have an ASUS,

Can someone explain what the reference voltages are for channel a,b and also the ddrII cont. ref voltage? I hated this baord ever since i got it 4 days ago so i finally just said screw this. Cranked every damn thing in bios i could find and guess what? the stupid thing finally booted 400x9 mem at 1000 4.4.4.8. I sure wish someone just could have told me that this thing is undervolted like this.
what volts are you using now? I have to use 1.6 vcore to even maintain stability at 3.4GHz. I am sincerely disappointed in the E6600 and Asus Commando. It was a mistake to assume I would achieve a high overclock like some on this forum...though I am like one of few that have had issues. That would figure...
Thank you for the info!
you can never thrust overclocks seen here or on reviews. They often get engineering samples and many here is benchers that don´t run their computer 24/7 with 100 % stability :)
3.4 gig seems to be average for E6600 even if you would believe the net all E4300 would do 3,6 easy on sucky air cooling lol.
God be with me just ordered it.
I hope team Xtremes memory runs well with it and a E6600 :)
I am running some Team Group :)
I have purchased two E6600 conroes, on the first one I had to run a lot of Vcore to get it stable at 3.6 9x400 1.5875 in the bios
with this new conroe I am having the same trouble except I cannot get it stable and when running orthos it will never fail like my last cpu the computer will just reboot, I have tried so many different voltages for everything and cannot get it figured out, it is just frustrating could it be my motherboard ? I see guys with way lower Vcore :fact: now I don't know if some are those are very stable or not, can anyone shed some light on the problem I am having

Well fellas. All was good at 400x9 with qx6700 all last night for 6 hours. I played three games of gtr2, encoded 3 divx movies to dvd andd all looked good. What the hell was i thinking? lol. Woke up in the morning and the piece of crap was dead again lol. One thing i learned about the problem this board has with failed overclocks and having to take out 1 stick to boot. If you hold down delete key at bootup it always boots lool. I have had prolly 10 asus MB and never have i seen this before. In the past all u had to do is turn off power supply back on and it would boot. But nope..asus had to change that on this MB for some reason. So anyways im at 333x11 mem at 1100mhz 5.5.5.15 see how long this lasts. And one other thing..if i run NB voltage any higher than 1.32v It crashed at windows screen? wtf is that all about anyways? Please badaxe come back from rma soon for the love of god..PLEASE
I am in the same boat. It would seem that the new batch of E6600's are duds!

 makes me mad my first conroe was a L629B367 got it stable at 400x9 with 1.5875 which I was not happy with now I have an L638F050 which I cannot get stable at 400x9 3.6ghz and what pisses me off the most is that it just reboots orthos does not fail just a reboot
should have just been happy with the first one .. I think I would be better off
just curious which conroe to you have and does your board say made in china ?
I am pretty noobish at this, I want to do a Vdroop mod
will this work Bourns Model 3006P Trimpot http://www.hosfelt.com/

Which is worse, the one who sells dreams or the one who sells shoddy goods. Either way, they are both dishonest but the one who sells dreams aims to trap you forever whereas the one who sells shoddy goods gets to “hit” you only once [hopefully, and that’s when people learn from their mistake]. A dream is about satisfaction but satisfaction can never be had for, “Wants, in general, are unsatiable”. One reason why we need to eat all the time but the consumption that is a necessity is for the purpose of giving us chance to grow and growth is about maturity, not indulgence. When we do not have maturity, we have no freedom and freedom is not about democracy crap, freedom is about maturity. Those who lack maturity, lacks valuation, whatever is the aspect under consideration.
Satisfaction comes only from truth whereas indulgence comes from untruth. One come from “within”, through maturity, whereas the other comes from “without” using the gauge of comparison/judgment of others with what we know about ourself, which is usually very little, and age has no bearing here for maturity is not related to time/age, maturity comes from being innocent & wise, not being macho, copulative crapola. The “Been there, done that” call of the juveniles masquerading as grown-up, great, famous, rich, fun, money, whores, drugs, …. You know the rest. It’s one thing to have an interest, whether it is a true hobby to give some validity to existing but it’s another when the “hobby” damages us. Time and again for the satisfaction that comes from indulgence, fuelled by comparing with some mythical greatness/fashion, is not about satisfaction but about being/feeling empty. Only truth can satisfy and truth is just another word for love/unity. Untruth leads to more of the same for untruth is about power which is another word for division and in division, there must be winners and losers. To win at the game of fashion, prepare to loose and therein, after much knocking of the head against the wall, we’ll just might stop and ask, “WTH am I doing this for?” It certainly isn’t for satisfaction. Don’t believe it? Ask yourself this: If you had found that 4.2Ghz E6600 clocking @1.45Vcore on a DS3, how long would you be satisfied for? Until “Bearlake”? “R600”.
Chasing the rainbow is chasing a dream and dreams are for fools, not achievers, unlike what those crap “Lifestyle Coaches” are telling everyone that “We make our dreams” …. for a few thousand bucks, now, ppleasee, yeah man …. Satisfaction is Love for Love’s sake and Love is for eveyone, not just some “winners”. The ONLY way to banish untruth, is for the majority to assume their own truth and not demanding truth from others for there is no such thing. Caveat Emptor and the one to be aware of most, is the cheat within every one.
I have a E6600 batch L640A820. I don't know about the motherboard, I will have to look when I get home from work to check if it says "made in China" on it.
I would be thrilled to hit 3.6 with a vcore of 1.5875, but I can't even hit 3.4 on that. In fact, to maintain stability I need a vcore of 1.5 for a 3.2! Intel's new batching are a bunch of flops! :slapass:
@sreedx2
You really don't need to do the mod with a trimpot if you aren't comfortable soldering yet.
Just do the pencil vdroop mod. I did it on my board with a simple #2 pencil and now all I need is 1.475 in bios for orthos stability and get 1.48 under load. Before the mod I needed 1.55 in the bios for 1.47 under load.
Its quick and simple and easily removed in case you want to sell the board or rma. Its exactly the same as the pencil vdroop mod on the P5B-deluxe and can be found in the xtreme mods section.
One of my ballistix died recently so for about a day Ive been running 3 sticks instead of 4..... I set my rams at 2.35v for 24/7 use and never really monitored the actual voltage till today when I installed PC Probe...... I almost crap my pants when I saw my vdimm at 2.9v:eek: and my vmch at 1.65v ( set at 2.35v and 1.4v in bios )....... I rebooted and went to bios to check the voltages and also check the hardware monitor, it was showing 2.9v also..... I lowered the vdimm to 1.8v and it was still showing 2.6v actual vdimm..... After playing around I found out the reason for overvolting was using 3 sticks of rams..... I took one out and all the voltages went back to normal..... Anybody else notice this?
you guys don´t get me comfortable buying this board. I stayed away from nvidia because 9f my dfi nforce4 issues lol.
do I understand it correctly that the actual voltages is way lower then what you set it to? well except for that nasty ram bug... It seems like this board kills many ram modules for people maybe because of this?
but some stated they run 2,3 and it´s in real life 2,9?
anyone who has better pictures of the asus commando pencil mod ?
in the mod section all pics look rather well not so good.
its the first time i would ever attempt a thing like that and i fairly dont want to F up if you catch my drift.

yes. Pencilmod.
Better? The green one...
http://pics.mwirths.de/pics/thumb/vcore_droop2.jpg
I just recently did the pencil mod, it is easy and works like a charm :D
Got this board a month back. It was running fine. This weekend decided to install my new water block. After setting up back the system and went into Bios. I noticed it was lagging inside the Bios screen. when I was increasing the FSB with the "+ / -" the hole screen was flicking as the fsb increased. WTF!! Usually the FSB numbers will just move. Is lagging inside Bios normal?
My board does something like that, it goes very slow when upping the FSB so you cannot just jump it up very fast and the screen flickers, I thought this was normal... I am running 0803 bios
To me it seems like it is meant to do that:confused:
The vdroop mod works, I can vouch for it. I am stable at 3.4 using 1.55 vcore now instead of having to use 1.625.

I will test soon, but not today I think ;).
change log?
Just went to Asus site and 902 is not there. Did they pull it for some reason?
what are you talking about? its still there: ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/Commando/
Yep & it's bigger than ever:toast: For some reason it's gained 5kb, but i've been running on it now 4 12hrs so no wucking forries:)Quote:

0902 bios still cant boot "@1200 mhz on my DOMINATOR 8500 c5d with QX6700 and Vista.
how hot do the bridges and mosfet run?
I have a mcw60 northbridge cooler I could use but then that would leave the mosfets and southbridge without cooling... Would I gain much from watercooling the northbridge? how hot do the mosfets run? I am not planning on going crazy on voltage max 1,55 on the CPU and reasonably voltages on the northbridge and RAM.
the big problem would be the southbridge perhaps since I have a big 8800 GTX. I do want to keep cost at a minimum. Don´t feel like buying watercooling kits just for this single mainboard for 100s of bucks but if there is a real gain I would want to use my mcw60 since I already got it of course.
Just a few quick questions with the VDroop Pencil Mod:
1. How hard etc do you press when drawing the line etc??? or is it more of a - colour in / cake it on type action??
I've got a 3B pencil and don't want to stuff anything up! Im guessing i'll just go over it 3 or 4 times & that'll do???
2. When a new BIOS comes out (as the Beta 902 just has) - do you remove the Pencil mod and then update? or leave it??? Reason being - the Vdroop could have been fixed with a new bios release and if the pencil mod is still onboard - could it be too much????
Thanks in advance!!!
Have none but i'm not running crazy just a pedestrian 385x9@4:5 as u see, more important atm to have a goood 24/7 oc. Onlly real sticking point atm is heat max temp in orthos peaks around 63C. Am planning toQuote:

kindly share with us your OC'ing/stability issues if there are any. tia.
out on w/cooling soon if i can find some nice pps on e-bay to buy me old bits.:toast:Quote:

@oqvist
It's not the greatest guide but i have removed heatpipes & botched my own mosfett cooling
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~chsm...ture%20025.jpg
i have a thermal sensor lead wedged in the fins. Max is about 35C during orthos, so guessing it's probably around 40C
Any positive/negative results from 902 bios?
You are right! The vdrop is hardware related and a bios update is not able to correct it.
When you use the pencil, you reduce the resistance of feedback resistor of the chip that set the vcore voltage, so the gain of the loop is higher and the stability of voltage under different loads too.
The other side of the medal is the voltage ringing: if you lower too much the resistance with the pencil's graphite, the loop gain is too high and the voltage has fast oscillations that are called ringing.
If you give really too much gain to the loop, the voltage regulator become an oscillator.
If you don't have an oscilloscope to see the voltage wave form, I suggest that you leave a little vdrop after the pencil mod so you are 99.9% sure that your voltage is not ringing.
still anyone have a clue on what changes in this new bios ???
hmm it seems that the nforce 4 mainboard has the same holes as the Intel? Is this some ATX standard? If so I have the southbridge cooling set then it´s only a question on how to cool the mosfets. I don´t want to get rid of my warranty...
Hi guys o/
This is my first post here in xtreme systems :D
I really want to know how to stop the buzz from my motherboard. Can anyone help me?
Hi diplomatan1,
welcome to the forum :)
seems 2 be 2 ways
1) See pics posts#485 & Post#493
2) Or RMA it .
from the number of people that have been effected think they should have called it Canary rather than Commando.
Luckily i'm not affected, or maybe my cooling is too loud:)
Trying to get my oc stable with 0902 beta bios. its a pita get cpu error in multithreaded pi tests and on top of that it doesnt pass cpu test in 3dmark 06<week 647 clocking fairly well but I might rma this commando board.

Up your PCI-E freq. It helped me get from 480-510 FSB i went to 120mhz
Supershanks, the store where i bought it don't accept rma because this problem...
I will try with full watercooled system. Hope that noise stop!
Thanks
Anyone tried the new 0902 beta BIOS ?
I am running the new bios 0902 and I do not notice any differences yet
still no one has posted what has changed/fixed in this bios ?
anyone can tell me why windows xp says i run my cpu at 4.05GHz while its 3.6GHz ???
it's a bug that calculate the speed from default multi
I am getting frustrated, can someone help me with my OC
running orthos blend my rig either reboots or fails within an hour or less
CPU Vcore 1.55 bios 1.52 under load
FSB term : 1.2
NB : 1.3
DDR REF's all at DDRII REF-30mv
SB Vcore 1.5
SB Chipset 1.05
I have 1048 team group ddr800 running stock which is 4-4-4-10 2.2v, I can run orthos on priority 9 for 24 hours on small ffts no prob
current OC of 400x9, I have tried so many different voltages for everything even auto and no go normally my rig will just reboot less than half an hour in, what am I doing wrong here ?
I think your voltages except cpu are a little low.Try memtest for windows for an hour to see if there are any errors for your memory. If not then Vfsb:1.4, NB:1.5, SB:1.6-1.7, SB chip:1.125. Or maybe your memory needs a little more volts because of the 1066 strap.
Good luck.
I got an HR05 to replace the nb cooler, I used a stock p5b dlx SB cooler and left the mosfett bare for a couple of days..... At vcore ~1.5v, it doesnt get that hot but over that and it does get hot but not as hot as the 8 black whatever its called around the cpu..... I got these swiftech 8800 mosfett heatsinks and it fits pretty good..... The other heatsinks are OCZ ramsinks.....
http://www3.telus.net/luis99/sinks.jpg
I tested the ram this morning with memtest86 did 5 passes and no errors, I tried the settings you suggested and nothing 10 -15 min then she just reboots
fsb vtt tried from 1.2 up to 1.4 - 1.45
nb tried 1.3 up to 1.6
ref tried a few plus auto
SB Vcore 1.5 up to 1.7
SB Chipset 1.050 up to 1.125
also tried upping the ram voltage from 2.2 almost up to 2.3, with all those voltages I have tried so many different combinations and cannot seem to find out what it is, I also tried upping the cpu Vcore a little  and played with the pci express frequency 100 to 105 ..
it should not be this hard running the ram at stock V and timings
@luihed ... you live 800km's from me
probably the ram is just a bad kit. simple explanation, as long as you've played with all the voltages. whats the stable clock and voltage, and latency that you can run? not necessarily stock.
I have only tried the stock timings ... I would hate to run looser timings with stock mhz :(
maybe I should give that a shot ..
I have been using priority 9 blend, it should be able to handle that right ?
feeling so hopeless, can't get blend orthos test stable, fail after 5 minutes. The orther tests (small,large..) doing fine many hr+ (8+).My spec is
Asus Commando
6600 week 37 @3600Mhz (1.525v bios)
vfsb = 1.35v
vmch = 1.45v
v-dimm = 2.1v (OCZ Flex @4-4-4-12 800Mhz)
vsb (pci-e,sata) = 1.65v
vsb = 1.1v
Just curious are you running vista ?, I am in the same boat with you I have tried so many different settings and nothing, normally my rig just reboots in 10 -15 mins one time I had 50min then reboot that is the longest for me
on small fft's she is rock solid, I can pass superpi and have ran memtest x86 no errors
I want to believe it is a vista issue .. I am going to try xp and see how go's because I am really stumped.
I am using bios 803 and raid doesn't work, is there a special trick i have to do? because it freezes at the bios bootup screen once it is trying to detect the last drive.. I am downloading 902 bios now.
I have had this motherboard for 4 weeks and i have never been able to get raid working.
@X.T.R.E.M.E_ICE what drives have u & what raid config are u trying. to get.
All you have to do is enable raid instead of ide in the bios under the first page, I got confused about that to then save changes, reboot and press ctrl+I and set up your raid
I know how to set raid the problem is i can't boot with raid set and a non-raid drive for some reason. I tried AHCI mode as well but got a BSOD when windows starts to load. I have successfully set 1 raid with the 2 drives but i can't get into windows with them running windows from a single raptor. Is the something wronge with the mother if so i will take it back for a replacement.
Does the pencil mod losses effect over time? Can it cause instability?
Yes it might over time, without the pencil mod and I did not have enough voltage orthos would fail now with the mod if the Vcore is to low it will just reboot  that is what I have experienced
Hi guys, since two days my commando display says "det dram" and my monitor says "no signal" ! I tryed 5/6 cmos, but that "det dram" is still there!!! I think my Team group xtreme die, but it's too strange!! My team group was @ 2,175v !!!!
That's impossible that they die with so low voltage!!! Since january to last week they were on a ds4 rev 1.1 @ the same voltage!!!
Now i'm waiting for cellshock pc8000, and i'm scared if it's my commando (like evga) that killed my team . . :help:
Tried 1 dimm to get into bios and set vdimm to 2.1 or up? After the cmos clear its at 1.8v which could be a little low for your Team.
that is weird one of my Team has died as well yesterday, det dram no signal so I removed them both, put one in a different spot and it booted put the other one back in and no go tried different ram slots to make sure it was not those
the ram is only one month old since yesterday I was running 2.325 volts with pretty tight timings  I think the ram got to hot :(
EDIT: @loc.o so you got me thinking about what you said in your last post, I was convinced my ram stick was dead
anyways I turned off my pc and stuck in the stick and bam my rig booted with both modules running stock volts, timings and speed... now I feel like an idiot lol, I wonder why that happened because no matter if I cleared the cmos it still did not boot which I imagine was because on auto it undervolts the ram, that being said why would the computer boot with one module and when I built my computer it booted with both
The ram stick I just put back in feels warmer compared to the one I already had in my rig
You should still be careful about running those sticks at 2.3v+ 24/7.
Me Commando and P5B both do not boot with 2 sticks cellshock in after cmos. Sometimes with one though if im lucky. I have a gskill GBHZ dimm that boots fine on auto vdimm so i use that one to get into bios after cmos and set vdimm to 2.1 and then put the cellshock back in.
Put a fan on your RAM regardless vdimm if you havent already. They get very very hot.
Yeah I am getting some fans on the ram double time :) which would be good I want something fairly quiet 2 80mm ?
So it would not be safe to run my ram at 2.35v 24/7 even with cooling ?
that would totally such if you did not have more than one set of ram modules and you could not get your computer to boot .. wonder if they will fix that in a bios update
I have benched mine up to 2.65v cooled by 2x92mm without a problem so far but i do not use over 2.15 set in bios 24/7 although they are rated 2.3v If you have 1 kit you could buy yourself a cheap no name DDR2 stick, that should work to get into bios.
mine are rated up to 2.2v anything lower its not stable so me running 2.325v with 2 fans is a death trap ?
EDIT: ok, it is weird though because the team group xtreem ddr1000 is rated 2v to 2.3v and my ddr800 is rated 2v to 2.2v are they not the same ram .. so say if I had the ddr1000 it would not be safe to run it at 2.3v 24/7 ?
Yeah I am running it back at stock so really I should just run it at stock speeds 400mhz and stock volts 2.2v and see how tight I can get the timings
The commando killed a stick of 8500c5d as well. ´never went higher than 2.3but the ram undervolts compared to BIOS.
Yeah a lot of people are now feeling the effects of constant "high" voltage on the RAM. The Buffalo Firestix (D9GKX) I ordered (should arrive tomorrow) are suppose to run at 1,000MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings and 2.1v . I really hope these specs are true and I can keep the voltage at a low 2.1v.
