My ballistix 8500 are GMH as well.
hm... so it appear some are getting gmh while others are getting gkx... interesting...
also, anyone have tips for taking the HS off w/o damaging the chips? i have yet to try to pull the heatspreader off any mem module i own...
Nope no 32M 600mhz cas 4 for me with them. Max ive got so far is 610 with 2.625vdimm bios iirc but thats only spi 1m:

shimmishim,
I've taken the spreaders off of every kit I've ever owned, lol! The Gskills can be quite tough because they put the sticker right over the clips that help hold spreaders on but the Ballistix are a bit easier because they don't usualy put sticker right over clips! Send me a PM if you need some help still and I'll share my secrets with you, lol! By the way, what kit did you end up getting (Tracer or regular Ballistix)? Sorry if you already posted that info but I'm getting ready to get a kit and still not sure which one to buy? Granted their both exaclty the same modules (well except for LED's anyway).
loc.o,
Well that is pretty awesome I think, 610Mhz CAS4 1M stable is very decent! I finally put my Cellshocks up for sale at Guru3D because these 8500's are just too temting! Even if they don't clock as good as my Cellshocks they will still be pretty darn good!
Shim, After taking the clips off, I used a credit card and a small screw driver.... The card I use to protect the pcb, then I slip the screw driver between the card and the HS and twist it working from one end to the other ( hope that make sense, Im not good at explaining lol) ....
With brand new rams, it comes off fairly easy but with used rams, I heat it up first...... Just take your time and never force it.... Ive seen ics coming off with the heatspreaders lol......
i guess the question should be.. how do you take the clips off w/o scratching the heatspreader. the ones that come with the newer style seem pretty loose and i guess they would be easy to bend.
what about the old style clips? those seem a bit harder... or maybe i'm not trying hard enough :D
I dont have a clue.... Last rams I bought before my ballistix are my Hyperx 3200 ( BH-5) and those clips where a :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: to take out too..... I did get it out but I remember scratching the crap out of the hs though lol......
wow, ddr2 800 crucial ballistix 2gb set is only $90 after rebate and google checkout ($40 rebate).

Got my Ballistix PC2-8500, D9GMH. I will play with them later.
How about these Crucial Ballistix 6400 for $99 after rebate, $89 after GCO?

Not sure if it was posted yet though.
They seem good, but they're already at 2.2 volts to get 4-4-4-12; so what does that tell you?
Sorry, I had no intension of saying something stupid; but, I'm not as versed as most of you guys regarding ram overclocking. All I was trying to suggest (albiet wrong, I'm seeing now) is that if you "start" at a lower voltage, you have more headroom to up voltage. Now if this is wrong, then thanks for pointing that out. I have an order placed for these, so I appreciate any info I can get. What voltage do you use to get to 1200, or is this at the stock of 2.2?
M
can anyone beat this ?

nice, but I'd be afraid to run that kind of vdimm. I've got a pair that'll do 5-5-5 with only 2.1v though. never tried beyond 2.4v though so not sure how much I'd need for 4-4-4
Have you guys seen the Ballistic 8500's for $134.99 after the MIR?

Crazy!
yea look above thats them clockin
Momo, try Cas 5!!! They will scale the best at Cas 5, as that's what they are binned for. Highly binned D9 lately binned for cas 5 has been scaling incredibley well using cas 5.
What are your thoughts of mixing ram? I have two sticks of Firestix 8000, but want 4gb, so I need another two 1gb sticks. The crucial ballistix for $99 is very tempting. I want to purchase it but won't if it's generally a bad idea.
Well, I've read the first page of this thread, and am still a bit confused.....
I want to get one of these kits:
corsair PC8500 cas5 dominator;
ballistix PC8000;
ballistix PC8500;
OCZ PC9200 flex XLC.
but I don't know which to go for..... I want something that can hit cas 3 at PC6400 speed, but hopefully can also OC quite high.... got a 975x mobo at the minute, but changing to a P5B deluxe in about a month... any advice?:confused:
the ballistix 8000 or 8500 will suit your need.
i own both and the 8000's have been my favorite ddr2 owned to date (haven't had chance to fully test 8500's yet though).
+1 for the ballistix

135$ after rebate
Hi
For OC, The best is Crucial BallistiX Tracer PC8000 C5(GMH) or Cell Shock PC8000 C4 (GKX) ? Thank's :)
Thanks for the replies.... do you think the ballistix 8000 will hit cas 3 on my current board (ABit AW9D)? Got some OCZ PC8500 Sli a few weeks ago and that couldn't manage it, but I did read on these boards that that RAM had trouble with tight timings... suppose it doesn't matter too much as performance won't be much different, just can't get too high an OC on current board because of 975 chipset.:(
whatever is cheaper from both kits :D

if the OCZ couldn't mange it so don't expect the crucial to do it because the difference is not that big ,,, how much voltage you were poshing on the memory
2.4v........ getting the P5B deluxe in a few weeks though, so no worries..... is the tracer worth double the price of the standard? Thought the difference was just that it had lights:confused:
400 MHz
the tracer i posted was the PC8500 the other one is the PC8000 but out of stock anyway there is a coupon for the PC8000 that will make it cost 85$ but unfortunately it is out of stock
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=143100
the PC8500 is higer bin that the PC8000 and the tarcer have only Extra lights like you said and usually cost 10-30$ more but newegg in chaos right now with huge rebates on Crucial memory
anyway here is the PC8000 tracer for 175$ after rebate but i don't know if the promo code will work with it

Yeah, I think I remember them OCZ 8500 SLi required a bit of voltage in order to run 400 (800 Effective) Mhz. Either Ballistix 8000 or 8500 only require between 2.2~2.25vdimm to run it. I'm speaking from personal experience as I've owned both kits. And the CellShock will be about the same too (2.2~2.25vdimm for 400Mhz CAS3), but CellShock are way too expensive compared with what the Ballistics have to offer.
Ballistix pc5300.... 4x512mb....... :p:

Hutch, HK PC8500 is a mix of D9GKX and D9GMH. Its all binned roughly the same, so performance is good.
I was able to do dual 32m pi stable 4-4-4-5 @560 w/ 2.45vdimm on the dot on P5K Deluxe.
Guys you must check out Tankguys, the prices on GKX Cellshocks have dropped almost 50%! The CAS4 PC2-8000 modules are only $299 right now, just a little while ago they were almost $420! Although I just sold my PC2-8000 CAS5 modules to pick up Crucials new Ballistix they are great memory for sure! Anyway prices are just crazy on DDR2 right now and I have no idea why? Demand low, IC's widely available, DDR3 is getting ready to hit the shelves? It's a great time to invest on memory for sure!

now it is very easy to get a nice pair of DDR2 sticks so we might let this thread die ,, please no more bumps
before this thread to die.. I want to thank kemo6600 for this post..
