I flashed back to 714 bios which worked best for me, loosened my timings from 3 3 3 10 to 4 4 4 12, and I got an extra 60 mhz oc. Now sitting at 3.67Ghz up from 3.61ghz on a e6700. My 1M super pi times are .2 secs faster, and best of all... I can reboot from Windows!!!! I'm positive that this boards memory issues are also causing reboot problems.
I believe the memory and northbridge being so tight are the only real issues with the x975. Bios revisions should fix this. I have the board stable at 415 on my e6400, and it benches much faster than similar systems at the same clock.
I have this board and I flashed bios 7.22 on it. Worked perfect on air,
then I wanted more and I installed my Vapochill LS on it and atm i can get in windows but not in the bios :s. Always a lock up as can be seen on folowing picture http://users.pandora.be/timtitanium/MSI.JPG. It looks like a piece of bios but then its a lockup. I tried several versions and I ran out of thinking and hope :( Anyone who knows if this board has troubles going

I remember reading somewhere in this forum that this board does have a problem with sub zero temps. It might actually be this thread, not sure where though.

There is a new 7.24 beta bios out! So far it looks good from what im hearing its giving a good FSB increase. I cant wait to get back to my house and try it out.

I just downloaded the latest official Bios 7.10, it screwed up some of my Windows files, I.E did not work properly, had to reinstall WIN XP all over again, that blew chunks.
That is strange, I've updated my BIOS so many times on this mobo I can do it blindfolded. Only beta 7.19 gave me issues i.e. Would not POST. The rest were fine in terms of POST'ing and starting windows.Quote:

Which I think is because other hidden timings are tightened for performance reasons - so these timings are relaxed .. I say this becuase no matter if I set 4-3-2-12 I still get 4-5-6-12.
Anyway did everyone here realise you need to put your DIMMS in one green and one orange slot? Channel A1 and Channel B1 ??
Being an *experienced* geek I didn't bother with the manual (one expects colour codes to be grouped) anyway I've been running single channel memory!

I would expect that with the X10 multiplier, 3.0GHz will be cake, even with cheap RAM. In fact, do you have any cheap 1GB or 2GB RAM recommendations?
The 965 boards seem to be in a huge state of disarray right now, or else I might be looking at them.

Do the "Windows Restart" issues with this board only occur when you overclock? Or does the machine also crash when you restart at stock clocking?

With the OCZ no post at all, i was lucky cos i've got a pair of gskill here, if i don't have them couldn't even post.
I had this problem initially once I first got the board up and running: No matter whether I OC'ed or ran at all stock, I'd get the "Windows Restart" problems about 50% of the time i tried to do a restart through Windows. But in the last week or two I haven't had that problem at all. Pretty weird, I can't explain it at all. I have a small OC with my E6400 (@ 2.4 Ghz w/ stock volts) and my ram running underclocked at 1:1 (b/c ram multipliers are still giving me trouble) so it's not a significant OC, but I still haven't seen problems restarting Windows. One less problem to worry about I guess. The only two things I would like to have straightened out are (1) Correct PSU voltage readings and (2) MSI's software reading CPU temp correctly. Other than that, it's been a great time with this board.Quote:

Yes, PCI-E Voltage in BIOS controls MCH / Chipset Voltage. It doesn't touch the PCI-E voltage. It's just labeled weird.

This morning i tried booting my system and it just gave of a weird BEEP and did nothing. Had the problem yesterday too but a number of reboots fixed that problem (or meerely avoided the problem for time being should i say). Now the system is dead.
Taking out one stick of memory helps getting rid of the BEEP so i guess there is trouble with either the memory or the motherboard and since, when i succeeded in booting, the memory works just fine my best guess is that the board somehow got fried.

Nope. Nothing seem to help. Popped out the battery and reset CMOS but no go. Tried all the memory slots with one stick (tried with both) but nothing seems to help.
I might have pushed the CPU to hard. I went to 1,45V with stock cooler but i've been watching temps and they have been around 65 degrees celsius. And when the system booted it all was fine and dandy so i can't believe it's a CPU failure. Same with mem. I wish i had hardware to test the components. My main theory is that the mainboard somehow got fried but i don't know how that happend. My first theory was with the graphic card since it has been behaving a bit oddly (no screen on windows splash occasionaly) but then taking away one stick of memory seems to have an affect allthough it isn't solving the problem. Gonna test the graphic card in another computer but i don't think it's causing the troubles.
Will this board do 450 FSB?
My frame that holds the CPU to the MB was bent, and that bent the IHS, so I got high temps. After I removed the frame, the temps got way lower. With a extreme thin layer of AS5 I could see the valley in the IHS where the cooler didn't touch.
I have emailed MSI a few times but they insist there is no USB issue. I have a Canon Rebel XT camera and I like to download my pictures directly from the camera via USB cable. I have no problems doing this on my laptop or the onther two desktops at the house, but the 975x would not connect to the camera. Actually it would sporadically connect but crash the computer while downloading photos. After trying many things including BIOS updates (now at 7.16), motherboard resets and even re-installing Windows XP I have found something that works and in my opinion proves there is a BIOS USB support issue.
I went into the BIOS and there are two things in the peripheral section, One Enables/Disables USB support, the other Enables/Disables USB 2.0 Support. Normally I have those both enabled. So... Just for the heck of it I Disabled the USB 2.0 Support and now my camera, CF cards, and USB memory sticks work and don't crash the computer. IOf course you get the message from Windows telling you that Enabling USB 2.0 would speed things up. I haven't tried Disabling the USB Support but Enabling USB 2.0 yet.

I have same problem with my Olympus C-2100UZ connected on USB. Sometimes everything works OK, sometimes my PC dies when i try to copy pictures from camera. I have tried many BIOS versions but problem is still here :confused:
I'm going to check this board out tomorrow with a E6400. So PCI-e voltage is the same as vMCH? Does higher vMCH help FSB freq much? What should i expect it to do, around 440 MHz? And there's no way to control real PCI-e voltage on this board..? And, when benching with AGP cards i usually up the AGP freq to 72-75MHz as it gives a little improvement in 3DMark, is it smart to overclock the PCI-e bus a little? To 110MHz or sth like that?

With some of the latest bioses I have been able to reach 400 FSB with PCIev at only 1.5v and RAMv at 2.1 (OCZ needs that).

Yes, you can disable EIST and C1E in BIOS.
Watercooling the northbridge is the key to this motherboard. I've been stable at 415fsb for over a month without even a reboot! I'm going to try for a little more when the bios finally matures.
well was pushing my rig a bit yesterday and got a clean boot at 400 fsb... then my audio started to glitch in windows after a minute or two so I had to shut her down, just a load scretching sound. any suggestions?
im runnin a e6600 with this board 7.24 bios, a x1900, x-fi extreme music and 2 gigs of corsair 6400 c4. v was at 1.5 and my timings were relaxed a bit.
I got the x1900 and the x-fi music too, and lately I got irq bluescreen (and disturbed sound for a minute before the bluescreen). A friend of mine had to put his x-fi to another slot to get rid of this.Quote:

This error is just... weird. When i can boot everything works flawlessly but once i get the error it refuses to go away. Could be CPU, motherboard, memory or just about anything but the beep indicates that there is a problem with the memory. Removing one stick of memory get's rid of the beep but it still wont boot.
Next time it boots i will keep 266 FSB and run at default just to see if that works. But i probably have to wait at least 12 hours until i can do that :mad:.
Will it be a new bios out which fix these timings, and so forth?

I got the board now, and i can't go over 380MHz FSB. No matter what voltages i run, I've tried several beta bioses and they don't help. I got a E6400 with a Tt Mini Typhoon cooler and OCZ 6400 Gold memory. I guess my mobo doesn't like OCZ right? I think I'll sell it and get a P5B vanilla.

Well, against my better judgment, I purchased this board. I installed XP (needed to install using just one stick of memory) and everything seemed to be going well. I got a few Data Execution Prevention errors after XP was installed, which I thought was odd. But the computer seemed to run well. One odd thing is that the northbridge seems extremely hot to me. Is that normal?
I've been having the same DEP problems and at times slow bootup (long pause before logon screen where it goes all black and mouse pointer takes about a minute to show up).

I've even upped my memory voltage to 2.1V and decreased the RAM speed to 533MHz. And I lowered the timings to 5-5-5-15. It had no effect at all.
I think I may return this thing for a P5B Deluxe. :( I've never seen such a flakey motherboard.
The really odd thing is that I was able to complete SuperPi 1M in 19.something seconds.
And SuperPi 4M completed without error, as well.
But something like unpacking an archive gave the board fits. :confused:

I have 7.26B available, just I want to know who's all leaching my bandwidth this time. ;)
I am hoping that this bios will allow multiplyer changes as well as fix some of the wierdness with the USB 2.0.

That's great... well, I was chatting with a buddy who bought my old 975x off me and he did a bunch of reading on it and said that if you go over 1.9v it can cause some of the memory issues which have been hit and miss on this board. I just thought it was worth a shot to mention it because you had no success when adding vdimm. Lots of these ddr2 modules are pretty forgiving in the 1.8 to 2.1 volt range and will behave almost the same.. so figured yours would be ok dropping down a little. :)

I installed 726 and it wouldn't access my raid volume, no matter what I selected in the bios, my raid was gone. So with this new revision 726b do we know if the sata raid is working on the intel controller? Does anybody else besides me have a raid 0 volume on this controller?
I currently found 722 is my best fit, stable at 415fsb and reboots in windows work almost all of the time.
Speedstep still isn't doing anything.
Okay, I didn't achieve any higher FSB :( The board probably hates my memory. No matter what BIOS i use, it freezes when I set FSB to 379. I'll sell my board and buy a P5B..
I'll reccomend Bad Axe 2 when it arrives in retail... Should be one of the best boards.
Well, it installed flawlessly enough. But when I went to boot it halted. No settings, combination of settings, resets or anything else would make it boot. Frankly, I think this board sucks. For the amount I spent on this board, it has sucky USB 2.0 support, A locked Multiplier, BIOS releases that don't address the problems, etc.
Anyone know difinitively what the best M/B to support an e6600 processor is?
It must have at lease the same features as the MSI 975x (ie. no of RAID and IDE available) as it must support my current drive configuration. (RAID 0 with 2 drives (C), IDE DVD Burner (D) and 2 backup IDE's (E) & (F))

Asus p5w DH Deluxe.
The Asus BIOS is head and shoulders above the MSI BIOS. It feels like it has 10x the options and features.
I got the P5B Deluxe and I'm very happy with it. I just wish it had one more IDE port. :(
I thought that the MSI had good audio, but the SoundMax with DTS Connect on the Asus is equally as impressive, if not moreso. And the SoundMax control panel doesn't look like it belongs in a comic book.
I'm waiting for the DFI RD600 board to be released before switching mobo's. Then this board can go back into its box as I wait before getting another C2D processor for my slave machine.

Sorry to say it, but I am also strongly tempted to buy a new MB, Asus probably.
I installed the newest bios (7.26). When I posted now for the first time I got the same timings as always. That is 4-5-6-15. When I was in bios I configuried the value 4-5-4-15. So god damn irritating. Anyone have any suggestions?
@ Rattletrap: I also got BIOS 7.2b6 from MSI support and it solved my "cannot invoke Option ROM..." display for me and my 2x RAID 0 on the ICH7 DH S-ATA controllers is working like a charm with this BIOS. It also solved all my boot / reboot issues i had with the 1:1,5 divider for the RAM. For your USB problem please check your front USB cable from your case if pin 9 is used just cut the cable from it and your USB will work as it should. I had to do the same and since then it works. This solution is also mentioned before on the MSI forum.
@Sigssoft: I have the same issue with the 7.2b6 BIOS. The third value always is 6 no matter what I setup in the BIOS. I told this already to MSI support. I hope that we get a fix very soon.
Well, on my system the RAID channel does not work with 7.2B6. The system will not boot. The multiplier is still locked. Couldn't test the USB 2.0 cause I couldn't get into windows of course. I will just suck it up for now and get by with this M/B. Once I get some bills taken care of I will get the Asus p5w DH Deluxe. From everything I have read (although a bit more expensive than the MSI and only has one IDE port). It's about time I replace my 2 backup drives (IDE) with SATA anyway. I like the wifi feature and the dual LAN. Everyone seems pretty happy with it. I'm tired of going to MSI everyday in the hope that they have finally fixed a $200 motherboard.

Hi all, haven't toyed with my 975X Plat PE for sometime but just installed Theremaltake NB cooler and here some nice surprise. Before with stock HS with 50mm fan I could do a SS at 426 but no way in hell any benches, now I get this and 3dmark01 stable at 430. Next will be H2O the chipset.

I'm back to this board. :wasntme: I got a Asus P5W DH that wasn't stable for even a second in orthos at 3.5ghz, while the MSI was stable in Orthos @ 3.64 for nearly 9 hours. I returned it the next day, and flashed the MSI to beta 7.33. Well good news, it fixed the USB issue, my PC no longer locks up when I connect my Digi cam or iPod. No new settings in the Bios, and the memory still reads 4-5-6-12 even though its set at 4-4-4-12. We're finally getting somewhere.
I,m sorry but this board is far better than any ASUS thats for sure. I don't have to wait 3 min to get booted up. It's faster at the same clock settings. Runs my memory a hell of alot faster. I like the bios much better as it is much like the DFIs. Solid as a rock.
If I were to upgrade it's going to be for a true SLI mobo by Nvidia. As long as it does 350 FSB I'm good to go;)
wow didnt realize ppl where having so many problems wiht this board lol. Havent had any real problems with mine, I only run 340 fsb on air and only use the back usb ports, It, however, does suck that I cant seem to use the additional usbs without gettin a power surge on mobo error from windows and a possible lock up. I will ditch this board in a hart beat when the dfi releasesthe rd600/3200 mobo, but I will probly still keep this one to build a second machine after I order it. gl guys.

Please try this: Check your front USB cable from your case and if pin 9 is used just cut the cable from pin 9 and your USB will work as it should. I had to do the same and since then it works. This solution is coming from the MSI forum.
Now the only thing is left is the memory timings. :mad: Please MSI let me set my mem to 5-5-5-12 instead of 5-5-6-12. Why they don't see it is an error? May be some more people should send this to sopport.msi.com.tw? The answer i got was try to change your RAM. But before 7.2 the timings was alright?
The features are right on. The problem is even with BIOS 7.33 the RAID does not function. I can't even get into windows to see if the USB 2.0 works or not. Thats my other big complaint, if I set the USB to the older standard (not 2.0) everything works fine. Once I set it to 2.0 nothing works right with the USB. The RAID stops working at BIOS 7.16 and the multiplyer is still locked in 7.33.
If MSI could just get USB 2.0 and RAID working I would be behind this board 100%.

Isnt the 9 pin the key spot as in no pin?
No. Pin 9 is the one before it.
