Finally the case is ready for posterity - now with open-loop surgery!

So, I worked all day today while I should hav been at uni :D and finally made ready my Final Final Final Mk.IIIb Variant C Bis with extra lazyness configuration of my stacker.

Hereby you shall see portarayed some snapshots of the process of making a silent water-cooled case that doesent look like a water-cooled case :)

My pump, wrapped up in akasa paxmate. Yes its fine, no, it wont meltodwn, yes, im really really realy sure, its been running like this since january, k?

Porbably the only person in this forum whos ctually using all 4 slots in the 4-in-3. Must say i felt a little tense balancing tis on my knees as i put it together...
The Yate mounted on it is running @ 5V fixed.

Bloody MSI and their godawful damnthemtohell PCB design. They couldnt put the NB in more difficult position if they tried. Hence all the snapped-off pins on the Zalman sink there...

This is the inline water temp probe - drives the fans on the radiator. 0% @20c 100% @ 30c for now, will fine tune it once i have some logged data. Im using tygon here because the walls are a lot thicker than the masterkleer 7/16 ive got in the rest of the loop. The thin probe got thermal-epoxyed all-over and then glued into a slit in the tubing with soft waterproof glue.

I've got probes on the underside of the blocks as well (including the NB) as close to the die as possible. On the waterblocks, this is mostly to give me an indication of mount quality. This is the Maze 4....

The writing there got transferred over when i stuck it on my X1800XT for a minute to measure tubing... never booted it up like that ofc, but its still marked the block, go figure.

Youd be surprised at how much those tiny mosfet sinks help with OCing this baby... on a side note, i wish we could get swifty ramsinks in the uk.

Tha rad and HD Cage mounted: You can just about see the anti-vibration mounts between the rad and case. There's about 0.5mm between the HDs fan and the rad.

Im not sure why the underside of my storm looks a chemical waste dump. Probably my periodical and rather aggresive vinegar cleaning routine.

Unlike some people, im using pretty much the standard mounting - i replaced the plastic spacers with 6 metal washers, but otherwise no change.

And there we go. All setup, in its usual place in my living room. I used to have a V1110B which was even stealthyer, but I cant complain. Also, this is quieter, and OCs far, far better.

PATA->SATA adapters. Mainly for the lesser cable clutter.

Good job with your project though mate, my only concern is about the temp probes unter the waterblocks. Would they not reduce the heat transfer between the core and the waterblocks ?

Edit: What are you using to monitor the temps and control the fans ? I notice that you have some sort of PCI card hooked up to the temp sensor on the back, but what is it ?

Nope, bare-die CPU, the probe sits about 1mm away from where the die makes contact with the block.

Its an m-Cuber T-Balancer. Strange side effect of using it to run rad fans is that while load temps are unchanged, idle temps are unnaturaly high - not that it matters. It makes idle REALLY quiet though, especially as Yates respond incredibly well to low voltages and PWM.

I didn't even know PATA->SATA adapters existed, I'll have to buy some of those! I wonder if they work with dvdplayers too?

Good to hear that Yate Loons play well with the T-balancer since I've ordered 15 of them from J-Mag. :)

I don't understand why so few use mCubed products like the T-balancer and the miniNG. They're really great products!

Im not sure about dvd-players. I think they do, take a look on the akasa site. Theyre basically an offboard version of the PATA->SATA circuits which were in all the 1st-generation SATA drives...

And as to why people dont sue them... well, T-Ban + Analog Extansion is pretty expensive compared to a SunBeam Rheobus. Personaly, i find the idea of having to manually tune the fan speeds on a PC powerful enough to drive several ICBMs at once to be insulting.

I had a regular rheobus once but I always forgot to turn down the fans when I went to sleep. Each night when I realized that I had to get up and turn them down to be able to sleep I would have been willing to pay $20. So I think it's well worth the money! :)

But I guess I'm extremly lazy. :p:

I found a PATA->SATA converter in a Swedish webshop that's supposed to work with dvd-players so I guess all of them do. But there will probably be some problems booting from a CD with one of those.

I doubt it. Or there would have been problems booting from the old SATA drives that were just PATA drives with an adapter like that inbuilt. Heck, my 36Gb raptors are like that.

Not all adapters support ATAPI devices (opticals). Abit's serillel adapters were the first available for PATA > SATA Conversion, and their Serillel2 adapters also support optical drives.

Why was I not informed of this! Only problem I realised is that with my cable routing I might need a longer sata cable too, looks neater tho!

One of the two mentioned Plextors doesn't read CD's, I RMA'd mine, and NewEgg Sent me another one that didn't read CD's either. I am waiting to hear back from PLextor about getting this addressed.

Here's a screen of part of my desktop, with the T-Ban data piped to samurize. Can you spot the inconsistency? Some of those temp readings must be wrong ;)
