ever heard of this dual heatpipe cooler for the x1x00 series and 7x00 series?

648/724.5 - 1.4/2.086/2.086/1.486 - AMD dual core X2 cpu cooler with two 80mm fans - 63c after ten mins of artifact scanning


648/724.5 - 1.4/2.086/2.086/1.486 - stock evercool - 80c after 3 mins and 35 secs of artifact scanning before i cancelled


648/724.5 - 1.4/2.086/2.086/1.486 - evercool with stock amd fan in the center - 76-77c after 10 mins of scanning


648/724.5 - 1.4/2.086/2.086/1.486 - evercool with two 80mm fans (same as ones used for stock amd x2 cooler) - 82c after 4 mins before i cancelled



mounting is not a variable because i did not have to unmount the cooler to change fans at all (used Arctic Silver 5)



my thoughts:

-fins actually get hot! unlike xp120 at 60c...this says something about how well the contact is between the fins and the heatpipes

-only thing that is transferring heat from base to the rest of the cooler are the two heat pipes, definitely not enough

-as previously said, it would be better if the cooler was attached to the base somehow rather than connected only through two pipes

-design could definitely be improved upon, but good idea for a universal cooler

-you lose the ability to use a heatsink on one memory module (see pic)

-supplied fan weak


finally someone (cantankerous) asked whether or not you can still use ramsinks, the answer is most likely yes, unless your sinks are one inch high

or taller. not sure? then look at the height of the red aluminum cooler that cools the power area...it shouldnt be taller than that if u want

them to fit. but i bolded the fact that you lose the ability to use a sink on one module because the heatpipes get in the way


conclusion: stick with the stock cooler with the fan at around 50 percent. then it will be better than this cooler cuz no modding is required and heat is exhausted out ur case. i'll try this cooler on my x700

later...see how well it fares on a card with lower heat output.

hmm never seen one of those before, its definetly cheap enough to be a good modding project. would be cool to rip off the existing plastic and fan, and try to rig up a shroud with 2 80mm fans.

Yeah, I saw that before, you should search in the 3D Mark section, it was posted there long ago...

I wonder how this cooler will do as well. From the pic of the bottom of the cooler in the second link it looks pretty beefy in size. Should do quite well I would think but no one has tested it. It may have been out for awhile but compatibility must have just been approved as the X1800/X1900 cards are fairly new and arrived after this cooler hit the market. I am trying to find the best alternative on air over the stock cooler. If this is a candidate then bring it on! The more choices the better as right now we only have the Accelero X2 and the Zalman VF900.

pretty useless info in the review though...but useful for good pics of the cooler

OH ME EITHER! Thanks to you both who ordered, looking very forward to results. If they are good I have to find one in Canada. The X2 is out now in Canada but I think I will hold off to see how this does first.

... upon checking the evercool page it seems this this is very easy to mount, maybe a little too easy lol. Should be done in a matter of minutes with the application of the thermal paste takign the most amount of time.

It says for X1800 cards though with the PCB and mounting holes being the same for the X1900 as the X1800 it should pose no issues at all. I think it will just be a matter of time before evercool updates their page with the X1900 as being compatible. I am surprised there are no other reviews on this cooler, even if on other cards. Could this be the XP-120 for VGA cards?

I am just curious on the noise, it says 80mm at 2000rpm but says nothing about the noise factor, I hope its quiet. Better cooling is one thing but I also want a much quieter fan.

For the guys who do get this cooler, check and see how much clearance there is for ramsinks since this comes with none. It would be nice to know if some ramsinks are going to be uncompatible with this cooler due to height restraints. If any sinks will do what is recommended do you think as best? The Swiftech ones?

Might be very interesting with decent fan on it. But it`s ment for 7600 cards. Don`t know if it will fit R520/R580/G71 cards

if you look real close at those pictures, you'll see the cooler after a minute or two :D

freal tho. that thing looks humonstrous and i'd buy that to test too if it fit and was available ;)
