Seems my sources were correct :) Intersting no news on a 2.6 gig x2 512kb l2 variant yet.
Bah! If I waited 5 weeks and my Opty didn't die on my I could have bought a 4600 for the price of a 4400... :slapass:
:banana::banana::banana: happens all the time when you buy hardware.... I pity those who bought themselves a 1800XT last month.... :stick:
NCâ„¢
why would you want a 4600 though, the extra cache makes the 4400 a much more attractive proposition anyway.
It was supposed that today AMD would raise the price of the cheapest Opterons 1xx models, but they still are cheaper than Athlons 64 counterparts...
the prices did indeed come down at newegg.
I just bought another Opteron 148 this weekend, and I was constantly going back and forth thinking "opteron 148 or put another $100 in for the X2 3800"
and I remember the X2 this weeked was about 335.
today, it's 313.
plus, all of them are alittle cheaper.
Cheaper dual cores for everyone
Cool cept didn't they bump the prices on dual Opties along with this?
Not according to this...Quote:

First the rumour about AMD would stop producing opteron processors for socket-939,
two weeks before Christmas 2005.
That didn't occurred, but it made allot of people around the world very upset.
And now the untrue story about the price increase of the opeterons 144,146, 165, 170 and 175.
And who has renamed M2 to AM2 ?
So why are we listening to "The Inquire" all the time, when they are not serious for 1 cent.
How many times will they get away with it.
I've heard that FX60's are supposed to drop in price on the 25 and I just had to buy one last week.
Patience is a virtue... just not here.... LOL

Those Opteron prices don't seem like they will be passed down to general retailers. My guess is that those prices will be around for people making workstations, but if you're an online retailer you won't be able to sell at those prices unless you can prove that your market isn't mainly enthusiasts. If you look, most of the online resellers have already lowered X2 prices but have actually raised Opteron prices. I'm guessing AMD actually, informally, raised the prices but depending on the buyer could sell for cheaper.Quote:
