i know some people will say, expect only stock, well this is extremesystems, so that wont do. what is considered bad for these, and what is good? ideal for me would be 2.6Ghz @ some form of reasonable voltage, 3d, game, possibly prime (i hate prime) stable. is that alot to ask of this chip? or is that cake? i suppose even 2.4Ghz would make me happy, but i dont know. what do you guys think?

Where did you order from? 2.6-2.7 should be good on boxed cooler if you get one of the new 80mm delta fan 4 heatpipe XP90 style ones ;)
yeah I just got that cooler with the copper heat pipes with my 165 it looks half way decent,,,, but 2.7 on stock may be tough it all depends on the stepping,, then again some hit it no problem,,,,
well stepping unknown thus far, but my ram (2x1gb) does over 290 fsb 1:1, so that wont be an issue, and for a cooler i can use boxed, or an xp 120 with panaflow :)

You should be able to get more than 2.6. What is your cooling? The XP120? And did you see what stepping it is.
seems like 2.6 isn't dual prime stable, but seems game stable, ive never had luck with prime with my last 3 procs, even @ stock speeds tho, so perhaps its my mobo that doesn't like it. either way, its a :

2.6 def. needs 1.55, which isn't good, but i dont think thats terrible either, im priming right now 2.4Ghz @ 1.4 volts, but it seems those last 200Mhz take alot of extra, it wont even boot @ 2.6 with 1.4 volts, let alone stable. BUT i think i figured out why it wasn't priming, for some reason, the pci locks weren't set, so i went into bios, turned off cool n' quiet, and messed around, didn't actually find something that said pci locks, but now clockgen reports the correct 33.94 or something, so it hink im good there. but ill be trying for 2.6Ghz prime stable, as thats all i wanted from this cpu, to hold me off thru the next socket upgrade, and witht he huge memory bandwidth @ 260 FSB 1:1, i dont think DDR 2 holds much of an advantage over me :)

well, talk about learning all over again, i am running 2 instances of prime (2500Mhz set @ 1.45 in bios, 1.425 actual) and its working! why so much more volts for only 100Mhz more? also, seems as if one prime goes far faster than the other, even tho i set each one to a different affinity for cpu's, so in theory, they should both be doing the same speeds. i dunno, o well. either way tho, why in HELL does it take a whole .1 volts to get 100Mhz more? perhaps it was stable @ lower, and i was trying too high volts right away, and it was all cuz of locks, will check that, also, did you sell your last 170 cuz you weren't happy with 2.6? or cuz of something else. just curious :)

haha, maybe after i run this for a bit ill decide, but all i know is quake 4's minimum framerate doubled from opty 148 @ 2.8 to dual core @ 2.6, and while 2600Mhz wont prime @ 1.525, its 3d stable, which i guess is enough for me, at least for now, maybe if prices of a higher multi opteron drop slightly, ill sell this, but i dont know, it is full retail, which is nice.
Have you disabled "CPU Throttling" in BIOS?
Also, make sure you apply the dualcore hotfixes and patches from Microsoft and such... found HERE
And like others said above, make sure you test your max CPU and RAM seperately using the 3x and dividers, etc. You should always find out the bottleneck factor before trying to max both at once. :)
ram does over 290 1:1 and i know for sure mobo has no probs @ 280 fsb, as i ran my opty 148 @ that, its the cpu, but im good, quake 4 plays amazing on dual core compared to single, and @ 2600, i got 4500 in 2k6, compared to 4100 with sc @ 2800Mhz, id say this is a vast improvement, so im happy for now, fx60 performance, possibly higher volts, but i got a 3 year warranty :)
If you think the ram can do over 290,,, then drop it down to a 9x multi and run it at 290 ,,,, it should bring you up to 2610....
this way your CPU and RAM are at their respective max,,,,
god, maybe the IHS on mine needs to be ganked and AS ceramique'd, it primes 2450 @ 1.4 volts, so i dont know why it would take so much more for 2600Mhz, unless there is something wrong with the IHS, it seems that its not just that one core bugs out @ higher volts/speeds, its both at the exact same time, /confused to the max.
That stepping isn't a particularly good one, don't worry about not being able to go higher. Most others with 0541 RPMW's are doing about the same
If you want better, order a 165 from newegg or ZZF ASAP to hopefully get 0550, you should get better results and make a few bucks after selling that one :)
