Anyone with a Asus A8N32-SLI deluxe and X1800 XT combination?

If so please post here :)

Just wondering if it would help my problems with my combination such as my poor overclocking XT which I've got no other PC with PCI-E to test with :(

Also the X1800 XT overclocker utility does not work which the problem is that it doesn't recognise the XT (same for flashed to XT PE) even though others with Sapphire XT's with other motherboards work for them :confused:

I'm happy with my Opteron 148 performance but I'm not happy with what's happening to my GPU and motherboard :stick:

Have you tried disabling PEG Link Mode?

what is the peg link mode. mine works fine , as of now its running the pe bios

I'll try and look for the PEG link mode which I remember seeing in the BIOS :)

But first I need to revive my motherboard which I'll try tonight :(

pablo, how does your XT clock? What utilities are you using to overclock it?

atitool for voltage and oc tool for clocks. seems to work prety good. i have it now at stock with pe bios 700/800 without any hicupps

PCI Express Graphics Link Mode. It basically allows overclocking of your video card through the Asus BIOS. Depending on the BIOS version it will be set either to Auto, Normal, or Disabled. ADrian can tell you more here

Seems to be half dead as it doesn't want to display anything on the monitor.

As for PEG mode, now I remember what it is. I remember trying auto and fastest but it never affected my overclock :(

Are fans and drives spinning up but no beeps and no video? This probably won't help but I will share some experiences I have had with this board just so you know you are not alone.

I have a similar issue where, usually after saving changes in BIOS but sometimes just a normal reboot, I was continually greeted by a blank screen and no BIOS beeps. Using a POST decoder card I saw it hanging with a code D0 - "NMI is disabled. CPU ID saved. Init code Checksum verification starting". I resolved this in the short term by cutting power at the PSU, clearing the board capacitors, and restarting, though twice I had to pop the battery and move the jumper to clear the CMOS in order to get back to POST. My long term solution was to turn my HTT down below 300 and up my mult, once I did that the issue went away.

Alternately I have had an issue 2 or 3 times where I do get a successful single POST beep but no video, nothing appears to be happening but I hear my drives accessing away until all of a sudden the screen goes live, my log on box appears and from there everything is normal.

Does any of that sound familiar?

That's how I revived this motherboard the first time, however it doesn't display anything or beep anything at all now. I think it's dead except the fans spins :(

Sorry to hear that. I had an A8N32 before this current one that went bad with a faulty BIOS ROM. That could cause the no POST/no Video symptoms you describe, as could a failed CPU. And actually I got no POST/no Video today because I did not fully seat a RAM module after swapping sockets. If you remove the RAM or CPU do you get any beep codes? I saw over on the A8N32 thread you managed to read a BIOS file off a CD-ROM....if it did finish and you still have the problem contact Asus support and maybe have them send you a new BIOS chip. Only other suggestion I can make it to check out a cheap POST Debug card like this Soyo Techaid It and cards like it have saved me tons of time, and it should give you something more to go on than silence and blank screens. If you would like I can run you through step by step power/video/mobo/cpu troubleshooting flow charts if you think it might help, just PM me.

Another thing is that I've got Crucial Ballistix's (2GB) and from what I've seen is that I've got the batch that lots of people owns which are faulty after using them for a short time :(.

I didn't move any of my hardware when flashing the BIOS apart from the CMOS position. It did indeed finish properly when I flashed via CDROM (only can do this by ALT + F2) and AFUDOS (bootable USB stick) :(. I've even tried using a floppy drive for my first problem (Bad Bios checksum) and it didn't even recognise the floppy drive at all. It seems to like to play around and it doesn't always detect the CDROM and sometimes the A8N32SLI.ROM file :slapass:

Does the motherboard have a built in speaker? Just wondering as I've never heard it beep before and my case didn't come with a speaker included as well :(.

I've had such bad luck with my PC since Christmas, Crucial Ballistix's (Batch 1115) that are going to be faulty soon, Dell 2005FPW with excessive backlight bleeding as they've sent me a revA01 which I'll be getting a new one directly from the factory (revA02 hopefully) next week for a swap :rolleyes:, and now the motherboard :(.

I can't find it anywhere in the manual or on-line, but looking next to my BIOS ROM I see a speaker symbol with the word 'buzzer' printed next to it. I can't say I have heard any sound coming from it at all, only from my case speaker. Did you try plugging speakers into the audio ports? Asus boards default to using the BIOS voice reporter instead of POST beeps, a nice feature I guess though forst time I heard my computer talk to me it freaked me out so bad I always disable it and use the beeps instead :)

Hang in there dude. You have been unlucky so far, but don't let it shake your confidence in your build ability. RMA's are a PITA sure, but sounds like once you get all your stuff working together it will be a sweet rig.

I've just tried my headphones in the green audio socket and all of the other audio sockets too. I can hear the headphones making a twit noise with no beep or voice when I start the PC with the headphones in the green audio socket. As for the other audio sockets, there's no noise, beeps, and voices :(

That really suxxors, man, I feel for you. Not where you want to be after spending a bunch of time and even more money. Before you send it back, do you have any other CPU's around you could pop in there, or borrow one? That was how I finally confirmed the BIOS on my original A8N32 had gone bad, tried 2 other known good CPU's and when that did not change anything all that was left as a possible cause was the BIOS ROM. Those chips are so easy to pop in and out it is a shame to have to send the whole board back, but at this point you probably would like a brand new fresh board to try again on anyway, I know I did. I don't have any spare CPU's as it's my first move to Socket 939 :(

I doubt it'll be the CPU as I managed to fix the problem the first time. Until I wanted to flash it to the latest BIOS again, the same problem occured and the screen would display things randomly until it completely stopped displaying anything :confused:

I hope my Opteron 148 isn't dead as it does 3GHz with stock voltages and stock cooling :)

I doubt it as well, just looking for a way to confirm the BIOS is scrambled. Was the random display you mention something that looked like it could have been a video problem? Have you ruled that out to this point? If not take the video card out and see if you get a response from from the BIOS voice reporter or speaker. Otherwise, that random display makes me even more sure it is your BIOS chip causing you grief.

It could be the XT as it's been suffering from Monitor signal losses which is supposed to be a common problem but the problem only occurs during the Windows bootup not during the BIOS :(

Taking the video card out should generate some kind of POST code response from the BIOS if it (the BIOS) is working properly. If it does not then your card is probably still OK.

I can now RMA my motherboard, just have to send it off on Monday :). I doubt it'll beep with the video card out as I took out both of the RAM sticks and it didn't beep or say anything. I'm tempted to send my friend my XT to test and overclock it which I only have to pay for postage :stick:

You are probably right since you would have gotten something out of the BIOS after removing the RAM had it been functioning. So you have a BIOS gone bad, I had one go bad on me, and I have at times lost access to parts of the BIOS after clocking too high, most noteably the APM section, which is restored after flashing to a different version. Hmmmm....
