DFI nf4 Ultra-d cleaning after Vapochill (6k warning)

needed to sell my old DFI nf4 ultra-d, and some cleanup was needed (because of a lot of Luberex on, in and around the socket ) so... a little bit of Fairy dishwashing liquid & a touthbrush... :rolleyes: & a lot of water :banana:

so no worrys about DI action & everyday Vapo use... its easy to clean up :p:

btw... the mobo still works :clap:

errrrrrrrrrr. I don't think you're supposed to get the capacitors wet, it's got electrolytic stuff in it.

the mobo is alrady tested... it works...
i know it was risky... but i needed to clean the mobo... & this was the moust effective way

i elieve that card wont work like before, water isnt a good friend of pc parts

i already tryed spirit before... it was realy hard to clean off the Luberex ... & i could not do it so good like i did with fairy& Luberex...
so it was the best choise... all I neaded after the washing was a powerful hairdryhairdryer

(2 njkid32... btw, your 3200+ venice (3,7Ghz WR) is dead... it died in my arms today :( it just died after a restart... :( im not happy today... )

That's crazy. Electronic contact cleaner is much safer. There are lots of different brands. Even Radio Shack carries it.

Yup, contact cleaner is the easiest and most effective way. Mine gets the dielectric grease off with no prob......

BTW, NjKid's 3200+ hasn't been the WR 3200+ in awhile. Mine took the WR after he sent it to me:

Check any electronics shop in your country. They should have electronic contact cleaner or something similar. Something to remember the next time you clean a motherboard. ;)

been there, done that... i live in Latvia... its hard to get something like that... at least where i checked, i even neaded to order Luberex...

hehe..I know, I saw that - but I pulled off the score first ;) On top of that, I didn't need to use DI and STILL have the IHS on the cpu :p:

EDIT - Actually, I took a look at Kiwi's score again and noticed that his speed was 3716.06 and my score is 3716.11. So in fact, I'm STILL the WR holder for the 3200+ :woot: LOL (I actually had the cpu up to 3780, but cpuz wouldn't take the screenshot for me :( )

If nothing else, you sure gave me a good laugh. "A merry heart is good medicine." :)

hehe... yes the w/r is yours by only by .05 :D ;) i hoped i would get a little more out of it... but it just died in everyday use... :(

Cleaned a GFX card that way.
But don'T use a hair-drier. Put it into the oven at 50°C with circulationg air.
That's much better for the hardware, because 50°C won't hurt.

ROFL, just buy AUDIO VIDEO SPRAY. Cleaned mine with that... the board was soaked but this is purely harmless to electronics (y):toast:

WTF is everybody so worried about?? What he did is perfectly fine. Water + electronics = OK. Water + electronics + power supplied = BAD. As long as everything is dried before power up there is not a single problem doing what he did.

The water will go into really narrow places... in time things will rust and then ull see the problems

Plenty of cell phones have gotten wet and dried out and worked. FCG is right, as long as it dried out before using, it should be ok.

I'd be more worried about the drying process.

If the water had any iron in it [I know our tap water has a ton] then when you try the thing the H20 leaves but the iron stays on the board and can short out the traces.

Water + electronics is not okay IMO. The problem is not conductivity, but corrosion. Water has this habit of seeping into places that you think are dry. This is one reason why many people with sub-zero cooling use silicon compound in the socket; to protect the CPU pins from condensation. Once the pins start corroding, it's all over.
