Odd Athlon 64 Stepping

I just recieved an Athlon 64 3100 from a guy. This is an engineering sample and has the stepping:

ADA3100AEP5AJ
AAAHC 0321

Now I can gather most of the information but the "AJ" on the end is confusing me. I'm having a hard time finding what it means as for clawhammer cpu's the only listing I can find is:

AP = Rev. C0
AR = Rev. CG

I assume since it is such an early processor though, it is a C0 stepping. Any thoughts?

Also just to clear things up, I have the processor but the motherboard is still on the way so no checking by putting it in a system.

I highly doubt its a sempron since:

1) It says 'AMD Athlon 64' on the IHS
2) It's on socket 754
3) It has 1mb l2 cache
4) Such an early date

no such thing as an A64 3100 AFAIK... semprons are s754 too, but they don't have 1mb or such early dates. ES's come in all shapes and sizes i guess :D

Well technically there is such a thing because the IHS on the proc says so :p:. Does anyone happen to know when the CG revision A64's started to come out?

That is a neat chip. For sure one of the earliest A64s. It will be interesting to see what central brain identifier says about it.

Right as A64s were coming out, there was some shifting of the model numbering scheme. As I recall, the first A64 1mb@2ghz was going to be a 3100 (3000 possibly), but they moved it to a 3200 for prime release.

It has to be a C0 revision though I found. CG chips weren't even really mentioned until early 2004.

Found this as well.

I'll let y'all know this weekend. Assuming my motherboard arrives alright :).

Supposedly HP or someone has 3100+ 939 sempr0ns that they've been using for a while. So there are 939 sempy's already in the wild. Saw a thread about it on [h]. One of the guys actually had one in his rig.

Oh. I thought it was 939. Well in that case it's an engineering sample a64 dtr clawhammer. Heh, thought everybody knew that.

See these Threads (1, 2, 3). Apparently, early Athlons 64 3100+, 3200+ and 3400+ existed that were never released and had a AJ surfix. Before they were released, they got a Performance Rating Model reajustement (The early Athlon 64 3400+ used a Clawhammer Rev. C0 Core, had 1 MB Cache L2, and runned at 2 GHz. In the Athlon 64 launch day, that is what was released under the Athlon 64 3200+ name). Apparently as Greyhound suggest in one of AMD Forums Threads, AJ could be a Rev. C0 Clawhammer with no Cool'n Quiet support because a guy reported to not be able to change the Multiplier neither upwards or downwards.

Yes, the Athlon 64 3400+ runned at 2 GHz. But it doesn't any longer, now it runs at 2.2 GHz in the Clawhammer version or 2.4 GHz in the Newcastle version :D

I seen a athlon 64 3100 for sale in a staples flyer last week. And it wasnt a sempron, I was like NO WAY what is this, (I thought to myself this has to be LIE) or a mistake on their part or a 3000. It said 3100+ as a matter of fact. I guess thats how they sale their pcs now? The ones prebuilt.

AI is B3 opteron, knowing how amd names things, i'll bet you're right, and it is a B3 desktop chip. don't think it supports ddr400 ;)
