Six tricod/yate-loons push/pull vs Three L1A's on PA120.3?

Probably a question directed mainly towards Cathar. But I am building a new rig for a client, out of the Mountain Mods case (the new one), watercooled of course. I want to make it quiet, but it doesn't have to be silent, just quiet enough so that it doesn't interfere with music/games (30dba or less?).

My question is this: Would 6x yate-loons perform equally and be as quiet or quieter than 3x Panaflo L1A's both at 12v on the PA120.3?

Also, I'm not sure I want to go with the 24v pump route with him, so I was thinking dual D5's? Lmk.

Less reliable and not enough flow. Good heat dump though. That's the only thing I'm worried about with the D5's, their heatdump.

My three options I suppose:

Dual AQX 50z's
Dual MCP655/D5's
Single Iwaki MD20RZT

I wrestled with the same thing. I am going with the 6 quieter fans... The Late-Yoons are quieter than the L1A's and, when undervolted the L1A's can whine like crazy. The L1A's might perform fractionally better, but certainly not enough to worry about.

At work right now, can't jump on MSN. And my home system is down for right now waiting on my new chip to arrive...maybe today? I guess I can always fire up my DX rig though. We can chat then...

Hmm, I really do wonder though if the L1A's would perform better. What about three undervolted Denki's (5v/7v)?

I dont think there is a difinitive answer here without testing. I do think that the differences will be very minimal. In my UFO right now, with 6 Sanyo Denki's at 7v I get a baseline temp. If I turn all 6 Denki's OFF and just have all the other case fans run, all exhausting out of the case which brings air in over the rad, my load temps only go up 2 - 3C. Yep, I can run the rad passively perfectly fine and you can too in that case. With that said, there still is no solid answer to your question.

i just bought yate loon 12m's and while they are kinda loud at 12v (wind noise), they are really really quiet at 7-5v. If you want quiet and the ability to go somewhat higher performance if need be the 12m's on a fan controller are nice.

Another question though, what's quieter, a Sanyo Denki at 7v or an M1A at 7v? I know the denki pushes more air.

Uhh not too sure about the Mechatronics. I had three of them and they dont push much air at all. To be honest, they are quite noisy with respect to motor whine and grind. My HE120.3 got pretty hot cooling a p4(3.0c@3.9), 9800xt, ic7mobo. I wouldn't recommend the mechatronics and I also got them from coolerguys.

mechanatronics fans are awesome and I have sanyo's too, at about 1500 rpm I can't hear them at all in my 7707

my $0.02:

my Panaflos are loud... even when turned down, almost to the point where they shut off. they have an annoying whirring sound... so i sprung for 2 nexus fans which actually arrived yesterday and i'll be adding them to the case eventually but won't have time for a couple weeks as there are other mods i'll be making when i take the fans off. 22dB is much better than the Panaflo 45dB (my computer sounds like a vacuum cleaner when it first boots... ugh).

if you don't want noise, don't get panaflos, regardless of if you are using a FSC or not.

moonlightcheese, but you have the uber Panaflos, which are two extreme levels above what is being talked about here.

Here's the comparison levels between them again --

The monster screamer Panaflo U1A is 45.5dba/114cfm/2750RPM. The Panaflo M1A is 35dba/86.5cfm/2100RPM. The Panaflo L1A is 30dba/68.9cfm/1700RPM. As you can see, the M1A and L1A are closely related, same fan but different electronics. With each identical fan added to the system ~3dba noise is added and with each 20% drop in power ~5dba noise is removed.

The L1A@12v ~= M1A@9.6v, L1A@8.7v ~= M1A@7v , L1A@6.3v ~= M1A@5v.

The M1A@12v ~= U1A@9.1v, L1A@12v ~= M1A@9.6v ~= U1A@7.2v, L1A@8.7 ~= M1A@7v ~= U1A@5v.

I'm going with three of those coolermasters on the PA120.3 pushing. And for the rest of the case, all Mechatronics. Thanks a lot Nik, your cut's in the mail. ;)

I wonder if you'll like the 56cfm though, personally I think a 120mm/38 shuld be able to push at least 100cfm, u never know when you might wanna crank it up for the hell of it. But since your getting them alrdy, let us know if they have that annoying mechanical sound like undervolted panaflo's or if their worth 20 bucks, hehe.

I find that the fan controller is what creates the noise. My koolance unit causes my Deltas to make an annoying sound under lower speeds, but when connected to my mother board spinning at roughly the same speed the noise does not exsit at all. So keep that in mind which looking for fan controllers. Sorry for the miss spellings, im pretty tired.
