Motherboard BIOS suggestion for Oskar Wu, et al...

I've been thinking about a BIOS addition that would be VERY helpful for a LOT of users.

Add a QUICK PROFILE selection in the DFI nF4 DRAM setting area, these would be:

BH5/6
UTT
TCCD
Micron
Infineon

Each setting would program optimum settings for all 39 of DFI's DRAM parameters...

Of course we could still make small tweaks to extract more b/w, but this would make it a LOT easier for those unfamiliar with all the settings.

How many times have you suddenlt discovered your BH5 won't do 220 after they did 260 the week before only to reset to optimized defaults and start from scratch?

Awesome idea indeed, as me (and most other people) are not 100% sure what's best for our ram, this would help immensly (sp)

and you could use the +/- to toggle between BH5/6, TCCD, UTT, Infineon and Micron Pre-sets...

Perfect example is Trfc, the optimal setting for BH5 won't even POST with UTT... how many peeps have been tripped up by that one??

These settings would get us "in the neighborhood" and we could make final tweaks later...

It can probably be done and It would make many people's life a lot easier. Great idea but I wonder what Oscar Wu (for that matter) would have to say about it.

Now the question is, is there enough room to set this up in the bios and how many configs are there room for.

Also some of the settings are FSB dependent, that would have to be part of the label and what FSB are we talking about here for these?
(Prompts for discussion?)

Hey Tony, if you wander through this thread, got any thoughts/suggestions about this since you play in here (DFI bios) alot? (PLEASE :D ) Limitations as to # of choices/room tables and code to load them into table(s)?

Then we can take a poll of which to include, or find out if we need more than one bios (break up teh selections). :fact:

Oh and yeah we will still have discussion about settings since they are somewhat system (HW and SPEED) specific. Also when new ram shows up there is the lag time from mem to bios releases respectively. This is where the pandora's box of discussion opens up :hehe:

Well it would certainly save alot of time! I for one have alot of stuff to do at school and won't have time to spend like a week to find the optimal settings.
Even better if Wu could make an automatic overclocking tool that test out every option in the bios regarding overclocking and find the best performance/stability config all by itself. The only thing the overclocker needs to do is to start the program and wait a couple of hours.

Prehaps that's too much to ask :/

So, you want to OC without working for it hhhmmmmm :slap: :slapass:

Sorta violates the main premise for OCing, the learning teh quirks of your system. Removes the elitism we live for here @ XS :doh:

You want that, ABIT has uguru, or something called a FX-....

It's possible, but it wouldn't be a program. This tool would be put in parallel to your memory, CPU, and chipset and probably various other components.

Sony used one while they were developing the PS2, the cost was somewhere in the 50 million dollar range IIRC.

As I ask him why we have those different versions of BIOS, I really can't figure it out.
I can honestly tell you guys, [color=red]the only differences between all the -1,-2 and -3, are base on two things:
MAL and RP
That's all about that.So, he has done the convenience for the different users can choose what type of ram they use.

nice idea if all memories behaves in the same way not all tccd are equal or all bh5 so i think if you want to OC the max out of your pc you have to figure it out yourself and i think that is the best part of it :toast:

I said the same things when they (abit/etc) started letting you select FSB/multipliers/etc in the BIOS and not on jumpers. ;)

Looks like the RDX and Expert will have drive str at 1-15, that may help. I don't know if that is a feature of a new BIOS we don't have or specific to those two boards though.
