X2 IHS on/off comparo?

I was thinking that with all of the ppl pulling the IHS off of their X2's(moreso seemingly than with single cores a while back), it might be a good idea to start compiling OC's for everyone with IHS on and then with it off. Something akin to the Venice ans Sandy OC databases would be cool, but perhaps just group all the cores in one thread for comparison. Also, as I've been out of the loop for a little while, am I correct in assuming that the X2's still have the same dangers of chipping the core or messing something else up with mounting a heatsink tightly, even thought the core itself is far larger? Thanks for any response and/or ideas.

I am keeping my IHS on because I spent too much money on my X2 processor to risk damaging it...

Well I am going to put my IHS back on cuz I am hooking up my Mach tomorrow night. So I going to put the clothes back on her. LOL

heaven forbid a naked Cpu is seen by something new...

Ι gained about 50MHz with my X2 3800+(2600->2650) by taking it off.

i am not done testing my overclock gain but my temps went down for sure:

ihs on = 31~32c idle / 41~42 load
ihsoff = 30~31c idle / 37~38 load

after taking the ihs off i was able to see that the core had great contact with the ihs hence the minimal temp change...

That's a pretty small drop in temps. Are you sure you have good contact now?

i dont think i can get this chip much cooler - ambient room temp is 26c and it is idle @ 30c

with 1.616vcore - the storm is clamped down all the way and my temp difference from idle to load is only 7c so i would say yes that is on there good...

when i took the ihs off - it was apparent that there was very good contact from the factory - i think the huge temp diferentials that people are getting after taking the ihs off is due to bad ihs contact ..

Some chips just have much better applied heatspreader than others. Those losing over 10c is barely passing grade heatspreader contact with core or shape of heatspreader :) Now, same doesn't hold truth once you go over certain voltage on these where gains for temp difference is more substantial. Also, same doesn't hold for phasechange cooling where you do need pretty decent sized contact with evap for better efficiency due to most evap design (in my case what showed as 10c gain on air became 3-5c gain under phase - and very good contact at that)

Well my temps droped 10C easy on water cooling after taking the IHS off of my 4400+ X2 0525.. And no it wasnt making good contact at all!

2750Mhz stable on both before taking the top off.
2808Mhz stable on both now :)
2860Mhz looks good so far for the first core but not the second core :(

Still testing and burning it in to settle in the Artic silver 5.. So i'll wait a couple of days and check the seating to make sure that its a flat contact to the die.

But i'm happy as can be right now at 255Mhz x 11 Dual prime stable at 1.67v. The Temps never get over 38C dual prime. Like before it was at 48-50C.

I said i'd be happy with 2800Mhz on both cores and i GOT IT!
