Help needed: PQI 3200-2048 DB or DBR ???

Hi all!

I have recently sold my OCZ PC4200 EL 1GB Kit in order to advance to 2GB.
After about a week of researching the 2GB market I found out a lot of interesting things and amongst them the next:
PQI has two comparatively cheap 2GB kits of RAM:

PQI3200-2048DB - rated 3-4-4-8 @ 200, non-ECC
&
PQI3200-2048DBR - rated 3-3-3-8 @ 200, ECC

Just FYI DB and DBR have black mirrored HS, while there're also DP and DPR kits with platinum mirrored ones.

I'm curious, how came that ECC kit is faster than non-ECC? :confused:
Have anyone tried these?
How do they OC? Max FSB? Min latencies?
And which of them would you recommend for gaming if the money woudn't be your concern?

Since Crucial Ballistix are not available in local stores :(, I have to choose either one of these kits or OCZ PC3200 Plat. or OCZ PC4000 Gold.
I run P4 2.4C @ FSB 282 on P4C800-E DLX, so that's the rig and that's the FSB I look a 2GB kit for, and yes, I know, that I'll have to use a divider ;)

Any ideas, advices or experience will be highly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Why do you care about the ECC? There is no point because they are run on different platforms.
You use ECC if you are 940pin you DONT if you have 939

And the difference in timings is easy to explain: PQI often understates the performance its memory is capable of, and 3-4-4-8 is a pretty standard rating for less-expensive 1GB DIMMS -- so that's what they list it as.

J-Mag, I run P4 2.4C on Asus P4C800-E DLX, it supports both ECC and non-ECC, that's why I consider the ECC option

aMp, that may be the reason, hope it is, I'll give non-ECC a try first.

One week to PQI shipment arrival in the local store... Damn, can't wait already...

Im interested to see some results on the ram. You got the ecc right? I havent heard much at all abou how well ecc overclocks.

ECC RAM is generally used in server systems. ECC stands for Error Correcting Circuits/Code. You don't need it in a desktop environment and I would assume it wouldn't be able to overclock as well since it checks for errors.

Yep, that is what ECC stands for, and even if I don't need it I was curious about the low rated timings. :confused:
I can only suppose that ECC version will be less OC'able, but I hoped someone could have already tried those memories and could have told how do they perform and OC. :shrug:

I have recently got some non-ECC PQI 1GB modules (MD441GUOE), you can find my posts about them here.

I've recently got a PQI 3200-2048 DB kit...
Well, I'm disappointed, the memory goes up to FSB225 1:1 MemTest stable, but it won't do even 255MHz 5:4 = effective 204MHz, moreover, I couldn't make it start at 282MHz 3:2 = effective 188MHz, which is underclocking...

What is different when running dividers? Why some memories don't like them?

I hasn't yet decided, should I be disappointed by the RAM or by my mobo, which had troubles running few other memories using FSB dividers too. :shrug:
I'm a bit tired of all this, but in a week I'll get few other PQI 3200-2048 DB for testing... I'll keep you informed about any success... or failure.
