Preliminary results with New OCZ DDR500 Gold 2x1gig kit !

Got these on Monday from Monarch computers, OCZ PC4000 Gold 2x1gig kit. Mine are serial #00000004 :D I haven't had alot of time to tweak or anything so these are pretty much plug and play results. But they look really good so far ;)

They use Samsung IC's so they should perform pretty well and are on Brainpower 808 pcb's. Without any tweaks running at 3-4-4-8 I was able to do 275mhz @ 2.7v in windows without any memory errors, I used memtest in windows and Super Pi to test. This was with everything set to optimized defaults using 704-1 bios. And like I said, I've not had time to play with settings so IMO 280mhz or more is possible with some tweaking.

My optimum setup with the X2 4400+ in my work rig (see sig) is just over 2.8ghz, so I'm running them at 11x257mhz at 3-4-3-7 1t with 2.6v for my 24/7 config. I included some screen shots with those timings and Sandra for those interested.

Sorry I didn't have time yet for 32m Pi, I wil try and top these out in before the weekend and see what they can really do. I'll post some more screenies then.

lookin good! with battlefield 2 being such a RAM whore, its good to see some overclocker friendly 2 gig kits finally.

Good Ballistix is seen doing about the same with tighter timings these days (3-3-3)...but it is nice to see some competition.

I had these in my play rig last night and was able to run 2.5-3-3-7 1t at 250mhz but can't seem to do it on this rig, not sure if its the different bios or what.

EDIT: Just needed 2.7v instead of 2.6v I had been running

well sounds like the do respond with volts why dont ya krank them up and tell us what hapens hehe

those screenshots show 257, are you sure about 275?? Check your posts you said here and at BE that the max was 277 but the screenshots you have are all at 257...

mine max at 2.8v @ 273 mhz and 2.7v @ 258 mhz.

Just a question, how much performance is gained through using a brainpower 808 PCB over the standard DDR reference design?

Look again, One of the screen shots is of 275mhz the others are at 257mhz what I'm running right now.

Mine top out at 276mhz and at 277mhz I get random errors, I've not really tried playing with them yet. I got the Abit AN8 SLI on monday and a 4600+ that I've been paying with (the Abit stinks btw !) and have spent all my time setting that up and tearing it down to put the DFI NF4 back in ! lol

Major can you run memtest at 270mhz with no errors??

for me its:

260mhz 3-4-4-8 2.8v 8errors
265mhz 3-4-4-8 2.8v 60errors
270mhz 3-4-4-8 2.8v too many errors :(

Try 2.7v or even 2.6v

I'm error free up to 276mhz in windows, I've not even played with memtest86

Also you may want to switch the sticks around

Memtest stable here...

uo to 258mhz @ 2.7v
up to 273 @ 2.8v

I wanted 278 or 279 stable 1:1 would be nice...

gotta keep playing with it though. too much volts is not good, more memtest errors... keep the volts low with this stuff.

If you can run windows memtest for 200% there's no need to run memtest86 :2cents:

Well this is as high as it goes with optimized defaults, haven't played with Tref or drive strength or any thing else for that matter ! lol

278mhz 3-4-4-8 1t @ 2.7v, I get errors with 2.8v regardless of timmings or clock.

It errors in windows at anything above 276mhz at 9x multi, same problem I had with the Ballistix 2x1gig. IMO my memory controller just isnt up to the test.

Nice results... gonna go retest mine tonight - I'd like to hit 276 - 278 1:1 with these. Right now 273 is ok but I want more :p:

I agree ;)

Even if you can pass memtest86 without errors you may still encounter problems in windows. I usually test first with memtest86 just to make sure I don't corrumpt my windows install, and then do final testing with memtest for windows and super pi.

More volts has worked for me though

Previously errors in memtest #5 .. so i swapped the sticks around like major said

This helped.. i had no errors until 26mins...that was at 265 3-4-4-8 2.7v

Now i increased the volts to 2.8v and im currently at 34min and no errors


Memtest is full proof.. If is passes that, it will handle anything you throw at it.. Also, if it fails, i know it wont corrupt my windows install

Mine is looking to be maxed at 274 3-4-4-8 @ 2.7v.

Any higher shows memtest errors.

Have you tried any different Tref or drive strengths yet ?

If you have time do a cpuz cert and pi32 so we can post your results in Enjoy's 2x1gig OC database. I'm going to play with it again after work today and try to get 274-276mhz posted.

I'm putting my Ballistix in my gaming rig with the X2 4600+ today and start OCing it, I'm hopeing it has a better controller than my 4400+ and maybe able to hit 290mhz with it since they are memtest86 stable up to that.

do you guys actively cool the memory? more errors with more volts sound like heat related issues.

Major, Just wondering if you tried the new sticks yellow slots and if so, was there was any performance difference from the orange. :)

I didn't bother with the yellow dimms, I've not had much success with the yellow dimms even with UTT and BH.

Yea, the yellow dimms suck. My BH6 drastically prefers the orange, especially at high voltages.
